This brand new fair gives you the opportunity to learn more about a diverse range of engineering and technology careers. It doesn’t matter whether you already know what you want to do, or if you are just starting to think about what a career in engineering and technology has to offer, this event is for you. In order for you to make the most of this event, it is a good idea to consider the following points: • Look through this brochure to find out which employers are attending and do some research on their websites. • Think about the questions you are going to ask, in particular, consider information which you will need to help with your job application and prove your interest in the company. • Avoid asking questions such as “What does your company do?” • Make a note of the names of the people you speak to—this may be a useful thing to include later on your application or at interview. • Arrive early if you can, before the crowds. • Dress smartly—you don’t need to wear a suit but you are aiming to give the best impression you can even now, so don’t go along wearing jeans with holes in or shorts. • Get your CV checked by a careers adviser in the Careers Centre before you go along to the fair. • Use proper English—don’t use text talk or slang. Above all, enjoy the event and don’t be afraid to approach representatives – they want to meet you! If you require any assistance at the Fair, please just ask us anyone wearing a pink or orange Careers hoodie. Alternatively, please contact us in advance on 0121 204 4757 or e-mail us at careers@aston.ac.uk 2 More services from the Careers Centre The Careers Centre has a wide range of information and resources to help you find out more about a business and management career. • Sector Briefings on a wide variety of industry sectors are available to take away in the Careers Centre and also download here. • Options Series are available to pick up within the centre for a number of different courses and more are available to download here. • A number of professional journals and publications containing information on career sectors and placements are all available to take away in the Careers Centre. • Occupational Files give information about various sectors alongside useful reference books.
