Introduction
Sto-Rotofix Plus
Sto-Rotofix Plus is an innovative fixing system for mechanically fixed external
wall insulation systems onto masonry and cement particle board substrates.
The Sto-Rotofix Plus system can be used with tongue-and-groove EPS boards
or square-edged mineral fibre insulation boards.
The Sto-Rotofix Plus unit combines the ease-of-use associated with ETICS
anchors with the flexibility of a rail system.
Features & Benefits
• Provides a cavity behind the insulation board. Easily overcomes irregular
or out of tolerance backgrounds.
• Allows for post-installation adjustment of the insulation.
• Allows for post-installation inspection of the fixing pattern.
• Reduction in thermal bridging over surface mounted ETICS anchors.
• Reduction of installation time compared to a typical mechanically fixed
system installation.
• Ideal for thick or stepped insulation requirements, as fixing length is not
dependent on the insulation thickness.
• Seamless finishes possible (tolerant to deflection movement).
• Sto-Rotofix Plus is supplied with BBA certification for StoTherm Classic
onto masonry and lightweight steel frame substrates. Other StoTherm
systems are currently being assessed by the BBA.

Introduction
General EWI installation advice
Check the state of the substrate precisely and then select the appropriate
fixing system for the external wall insulation system. The substrate must be
pre-treated as appropriate to the system.
Measure the correct temperature and given building moisture before
application. The lowest temperature allowed for the application of most
Sto products is 5°C. Sto QS products are available for winter working to a
minimum application temperature of 1°C.

Before work begins, doors, windows, shutter boxes and horizontal
covers (e.g. window sills) must be in place and weatherproofed.
Before installation, the required materials must be organised according
to the respective stages of the installation process.
Materials stored on site must be kept in dry conditions.
All on-site factors, including projections, connections, expansion joints
and unevenness, must be clarified in advance.
Information on the use, installation and storage of system components
can be found in Sto technical data sheets and detail drawings
(available on request).
The applicable standards and regulations are to be observed at all
times, as well as the official approval for the system.
In accordance with the official approval, all system components must
be sourced from Sto Ltd.
If you have any queries regarding installation, please refer to your Sto sales
or technical representative.
The technical specifications and information on the products
in the technical data sheets and approvals must be observed.

Installation
Insertion of Sto-Rotofix Plus
spiral plug into insulation
1
Create a recess in the insulation
For EPS insulation over 100mm thickness,
we recommend using a countersink milling
tool to create a recess in the insulation.
For mineral fibre board (MFB), a recess is
only recommended post-installation if the
surface is damaged.
2
Drill a hole through the insulation
Using the green jolley tool, drill a hole
through the insulation board. This helps to
reduce debris behind the cavity, which is
especially important for MFB installation.
3
Screw Sto-Rotofix spiral plug into
insulation
Ensure the drill hole is free of debris, then
screw the Sto-Rotofix spiral plug through
the insulation until it touches the substrate
using a suitable slow-speed drill. The plug
must always be inserted at a 90° angle to
the insulation board.
Note
Operations 1 to 3 can be carried out
away from the wall if required. A
frame can be constructed to support
insulation boards and provide initial
cavity offset.

Installation
Drilling into substrate
4
Drill hole into substrate
Using the correct drill bit, drill a hole into
the substrate through the hole in the StoRotofix Plus spiral plug. Use a drill stop to
set anchorage depth.
While the drill bit is turning, ventilate the
hole several times.
For cement particle board:
Using a suitable drill with a 10mm HSS drill
bit (without hammer action), drill through
CP board / steel.
For masonry:
Use suitable drill with a 10mm hammer drill
bit to suit length. Do not use the hammer
drill function on hollow brick/block.
See article list on pg15.
For 120T/160T fixing:
Allow for 50mm embedment.
For E1/E100 fixing into existing render:
Allow 70mm into sound substrate + render
thickness.
The technical specifications and information on the products
in the technical data sheets and approvals must be observed.

Installation
Placing the screw dowel
5
Insert screw dowel
Insert the appropriate screw dowel fixing
into the plug by hand. Ensure the fixing is
correctly placed using the appropriate
Sto-Rotofix Plus positioning tool.
If required, a hammer can be used on the
the positioning tool.
Grey positioning tool
For 120T/160T fixing into cement particle
board and unrendered masonry.
(50mm anchorage)
Red positioning tool
For E1/E100 fixing into rendered masonry or
aerated concrete.

Screw fixing
Screw and secure the fixing into the
substrate using a suitable power
screwdriver /drill with the Sto-Rotofix
Plus Jolley tool.
Warning!
Do not secure the fixing if the wall
temperature is below 0°C

Adjusting Sto-Rotofix Plus
7
Align the insulation
Align the insulation as required for the
project using string lines.
The distance to the wall may be:
Max. 30mm with the Sto-Rotofix Plus green
plug or max. 70mm with the Sto-Rotofix
Plus black plug.
We recommend that once insulation
thickness exceeds 140mm, the Sto-Rotofix
Plus black spiral plug should be used.
Use square end of positioning tool (grey or
red) to adjust fixing in/out.

Finishing
8a
Fill the recess
For EPS insulation over 100mm,
the recess gap can be filled using a
Sto-Thermocap EPS pushed into place.
For MFB insulation, where the recess is not
normally formed, the gap behind the fixing
can be filled with MFB offcuts or PU foam.
For EPS/MFB 80/90mm, do not recess. Use
PU foam to rectify minor holes generated by
fixing/placement of Sto-Rotofix Plus units.
