Pet Friendlies
When Robin Broughton-Smith and Ronald Smith, moved to
East Falls, they fell in love with the neighborhood, but when it
came to providing their beloved dog Roxy with a healthy
alternative to regular dog food, they were forced to travel
elsewhere. In fact, they became so tired of commuting for the
right pet products, the husband and wife team chose to start
their own business right here, in East Falls. Wag n Style, a
pet boutique for the discerning human to pamper their four
legged companions, opened in June.
Wag n Style offers all natural/eco friendly products for your
dog or cat. These products are not only safe for your pet(s);
they are also safe for the environment. For example, their
dog beds (the #1 best seller), which come in all-sizes and can
even be custom designed, are made out of recycled plastic
bottles.
The store is also unique in that it offers the
latest and greatest in pet apparel, accessories and toys. If you love
your pet as much as they love you, then Wag n Style is the perfect
place to pamper your pooch (or feline)!
Wag n Style is located at 3734 Midvale Ave. Hours: Mondays
Closed, 12:00 - 8:00pm Tuesdays-Fridays, 11:00am - 7:00pm
Saturdays, 12:00 - 5:00pm Sundays. For more information visit:

Riverfront Business District Announcements and Events
Liquor Control Board Signs Agreement for Improvements to Local Store
We are pleased to report progress on the Liquor Control Board's Wine and Spirits
Store at 4177 Ridge Avenue. The EFDC's Design Committee has met with the PLCB,
the property owner, and their contractor to review proposed improvements to the
exterior. These will include an improved parking lot with landscaping, lighting, and
removal of the concertina wire around most of the top of the building. The building will
be painted and the sides stuccoed. In September, we expect a dramatic change when
the lot will be cleared of weeds and weed trees in preparation for the parking lot
improvements.
Midvale Avenue Design Receives Go Ahead
An open design conversation about Midvale Avenue from Ridge to Warden/Conrad
Street was on the agenda for the EFCC meeting on Monday, Aug. 10. The EFDC has
been working on ways to improve the look of the area and partnered with the
Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for a design of Midvale. The PHS team, which
included Meliora and Andropogon, presented beautiful renderings of how Midvale could
look. After the extensive presentation and subsequent discussion, the EFDC got the
go-ahead to proceed with the project.
We want more community input on how to make an attractive street while serving the
needs of bicycles, pedestrians, residents and businesses. Start with our web page to go
to the presentation and then post your comments on the blog.
Save the Date - Arts by the River. Sat. Oct. 3
We are already accepting arts and crafts vendors for Arts by the River on Sat. Oct. 3rd.
East Falls artists/artisans are particularly encouraged to participate and are offered the
option of shared booth space. Find out more about the event and fill out an application,

eco-fair. Do you want to be a vendor? Check out the same web link for more
information.
Cameras Systems at Work in Riverfront District
Eighteen new cameras are keeping an eye on the Riverfront Business District. Thanks
to a grant from State Representative Jewell Williams, the EFDC purchased camera
systems to help businesses and residents feel safer. They are located on Ridge Avenue
from Slices Pizza to East Falls Eye Associates and on Midvale Avenue up to toward Wee
Care Child Care. Images are available on-line for businesses and property owners in
the District.

East Falls Goes Green Rain Barrel Workshop on August 18th
East Falls Goes Green held its third workshop in a series, this one on Rain
Barrels. Participants gathered at the EFDC office for a brief presentation and
then walked to a neighbor's house to see a step-by-step installation of a rain
barrel.
Accessories, such as rain spout diverters and a soaker hose were shown and different
rain barrels were displayed including a complete do-it-yourself option. As a storm blew
in, we finished just in time to see the rain barrel go to work!
Rain barrels are a great way to use the water that falls on your roof during a rainfall.
The collected water will not only reduce your water bill, but also helps decrease water
demand during the hot summer months. For more information about rain barrels and
the training, go to our website page on East Falls Goes Green. Thanks to our Annual Event Sponsors
