A few words from Fr. Dariusz
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. This special Feast is celebrated in remembrance of
Jesus who gave His life for the salvation of many. It is a Feast in remembrance of Jesus’ command to celebrate the
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
The theme of covenant dominates all three Readings. The Reading from Exodus describes the ratification of the
Sinai covenant between God and Israel. The covenant was sealed with the blood of animals. Blood is a symbol of
life which belongs exclusively to God. The sprinkling of the people with blood symbolizes the fact that God is
sharing His life with them.
Jesus established a new covenant. Like the old covenant, it too was sealed with blood, except now it is not the blood of animals but His
own blood. A new rite (the Eucharist) was instituted which would be a perpetual reminder of the intimate bond that now exists between
God and His people. In the Eucharist Jesus shares His life with us.
By the Sacrificial death of Christ, the supreme high priest, God has entered into a new and eternal covenant with His people.
In the Gospel Reading, Jesus commanded us to celebrate the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, to eat His Body and to drink His Blood.
While Jesus was on earth, He stated that He is the Living Bread that came down from Heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that He will give for the life of the world is His flesh.
In the next passage Jesus began to speak with the words “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His
blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for
my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink”. Unless we receive the Body and Blood of Christ through the Sacrament of the Holy
Eucharist, we are not saved. We may have become a new creation by dying with Christ, being buried with Christ and having resurrected
with Christ, but the soul has no life in it without the Body and Blood of Christ.
Faith alone does not save anyone. The Sacrament of Baptism alone does not save anyone. The Sacrament of Confession alone does not
save anyone. Nor does the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist alone save anyone. Each of the above mentioned are required in the proper
order for us to be saved and qualify to enjoy eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ. The gift of salvation and eternal life in the Kingdom of God
comes from Christ and no one else.
Through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, we can receive our assurance of our salvation. Through the
Body and Blood of Christ, we find the necessary strength to persevere in this world. While we are in this world, we no longer belong to
this world.
Let us be thankful to the Lord Jesus for His Body and Blood that assures us our salvation.
God bless all of us.

Homebound Eucharistic Ministry
Why is it so Important?
One of the largest and most important
ministries within the Our Lady of the Angels parish is the sharing of Holy Communion with those who are hospitalized
or living in nursing and personal care
homes. Like many parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit, we have many elderly
and infirm members who cannot attend
regular Sunday Mass.
Many who are unable to attend Mass have
been active, lifelong members of the parish and miss participating in the liturgy
and Holy Eucharist. Would you be willing to share your time and carry the Holy
Eucharist to one or a couple of these individuals at their residence or a personal
care facility?
Are you interested in becoming a Homebound Eucharistic Minister?
Homebound Eucharistic Ministers are
trained persons who are matched to persons in their immediate locale. This is a
most important and very spiritually rewarding ministry.
To volunteer and take the Eucharist to
individual’s homes and care facilities on a
scheduled basis please contact Marie
Gdowski at 313-381-3000 ext. 110.

Quote of the Week: “ Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.” - - Matthew
4:19
Give a man a fish he’ll eat for a day, teach him how to fish and he’ll eat forever:
If you’ve ever gone fishing you know that simply casting your line out into the water
does not guarantee you fish. In fact on many an occasion there will be times when the
fish just aren’t biting and there’s nothing you can do about it. Sure you can change your
lure, change your approach, find better waters. But it’s a game of figuring out just what
is going to reel in that big fish, that small fish or any fish at all. I knew a guy who spent
his whole day catching little fish all over the lake. One by one he dropped them into a
bucket of water. Soon his collection of twenty or more fish became a meal. And that
was his point. Size, stature, weight, history wasn’t important, it was how many. How
many could he catch?
The same can be said of evangelization. Which is of course the approach Jesus took,
literally. He went out and got fishermen and turned them into the foundation of our
Church. He didn’t care about the history, the background, the education. He just knew.
He knew that these men could do the job. Fishing is patience. It’s the willingness to go
out again and again, day after day, night after night and not give up, give in or quit. And
when your trying to tell someone about your Church, your faith, your life or your Savior
you have to have a willingness to just keep...fishing. Because your trying to save a life,
to save a spirit, to convert, to love, to communicate that there’s more to this then what
you see here. So get in the boat, cast off into deep waters or better yet find your favorite
fishing hole and just keep reeling them in, big, small, tiny, no matter. We want them all.
And by the way, so does God.
An open Invitation: Are you awesome? Have you always been awesome? Do you
wish you could meet other awesome people just like you? Well look no further then Our
Lady of the Angels Youth Group. We are the keepers of awesomeness. But we need
you to stop by and add to this amazing phenomenon. So if you are between the ages of
10 to 18 and looking for great friends, good people, lots of fun and amazing events then
stop by the Youth Loft Sunday nights from 6:30 to 8pm. And begin your awesome journey into fulfilling your faith. See you there!
If You have any questions please feel free to contact Youth Leaders:

Thank you for responding to our recent plea for food pantry donations because your
contributions help keep our pantry supplied so we can continue meeting the needs of
those who come to us for food. Many families are still struggling to make ends meet
and find it difficult to have enough money for food so they must rely on outside sources
such as our pantry to feed their families. We do not turn anyone away and distribute
food based on family size. Please continue to keep the pantry in mind and add a few
extra items when you do your grocery shopping. We are very grateful for your support
and sincerely thank all of you for your charity and concern for the hungry. We are in
need of all forms of food, staples and house cleaning items. Please remember all perishable foods such as milk, butter, eggs, etc. should be brought to the Parish Office so they
can be refrigerated.

Dear Fr. D. & Parishioners,
I would like to thank everyone for their prayers. The pain I

The bricks we ordered several weeks ago
were installed in our beautiful Prayer
Garden last week. The garden has started
to bloom and as we walk through it, we
can admire all the different aspects that
make it such an attractive part of our
Church grounds. A commemorative brick
can have a very special meaning. It is a
way of remembering someone who has
passed away or can serve as a special
keepsake to honor family members and
friends. We suggest that you take a moment to stroll through the garden and look
at the many bricks honoring loved ones
and the plants and flowers that make the
garden a quiet place to spend a few moments enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
The garden is a memento befitting our
parish that signifies the love and unity
that draws us closer together as God’s
family. Bricks can be purchased by either
filling out the form in the Parish Office or
on the Parish website. The cost is $110
with 3 lines of inscription. Each line can
accommodate 14 characters including the
spaces. Symbols can also be inscribed on
the bricks at a cost of $5.00 for each one.
The form with the symbols is available in
the parish office. Please consider buying
a brick to honor those who are important
to you.
Groups will be divided by age
Young groups - Will be working on awesome art projects, along with learning about
life skills and having more fun with other projects and video’s.
Middle School - Will be working on awesome art projects, along with learning about
alcohol by using a comic book collection as a learning tool.
Teens - The older teens will be looking at court cases and how drugs and alcohol affects
not just the individual but others as well. We will also be having fun!
Parents and caregivers - The time provided for parents and caregivers allows for learning new tools and skills for yourself and the youth in your lives. It will be a good time
for discussion and opportunities to know you are not alone.
