About Trailer Spares Direct
Trailer Spares Direct store in Lawnton opened in 2010 and has grown rapidly into a 350sqm superstore and additional 250sqm warehouse.
We manufacture, import and sell the widest range of trailer spare parts for recreation and commercial trailers under 4.5 tonne.
Trailer Spares Direct is a division of Direct Source Australia Pty Ltd, a supplier to the mining and industrial sector since 2004. The owner of Direct
Source Australia has a strong background and experience in the braking industry. With that experience we first concentrated on brake products,
selling Hydrastar brake actuators and our PBR marinised caliper. We then developed Hydraline; a flexible stainless steel braided brake hose.
From this basis and our strong customer service, the store was established and our wide range of products continues to grow thanks to you, our
valued customers and your referrals.
Today, we have the widest range of products available. We continue to concentrate on braking products, and have a wide range of calipers
available in stock including American brake parts; Kodiak, Tie Down and UFP brake parts. In addition, we sell couplings, brake controllers, axles,
springs, jockey wheels, trailer auto electrical, bearings, hubs, drums and discs, tyres and rims and much more.
We have everything you need to get your trailer on the road. If you aren’t local we can send it out the same day with our competitive freight rates.

Part numbers starting with ALQR are quick action stabilising legs. Pull handle to swing leg into lowest lock position (variable); take up support
weight using hex head handle. These quick release legs are stabilising legs and not to be used as levelling legs. Support capacity varies
depending on the angle of the leg and surface grip of the leg. A more vertical position with give greater load capacity, but will reduce stability.

Axles and stub axles
We stock a wide range of axle lengths in widths of 39mm round, 40mm square, 45mm square and 50mm square as well as stub axles. Axles are
available in black painted steel or galvanised finishes. Custom build lengths of axles, drop and overlay axles as well as assembled axles are all
available on request. All axles and stub axles come with axle nuts, washers and split pins.
Straight axles are the most common type and our full listing of 39mm round, 40mm square, 45mm square, 50mm square axles and their ratings
are listed in the below section. Ratings are determined by the lowest rating between the material and the bearing. Our ratings for our straight
axles are as follows:

39mm round with LM bearing (also called Holden bearing) = 1000kg (1 tonne)
•
40mm square with LM bearing (also called Holden bearing) = 1200kg (1.2 tonne)
•
45mm square with slimline (SL) bearing (also called Ford bearing) = 1500kg (1.5 tonne)
•
45mm square with parallel bearing = 1800kg (1.8 tonne)
•
50mm square with TX bearing = 2500kg (2.5 tonne)
Also available are overlay axles, a straight solid length of steel with stub axles welded on top of the steel; or drop axles, a straight solid length of
steel with extra space created by welding drop plates between the steel and the stub axle.
Selecting the right axle
When selecting an axle for your trailer you need to consider the following:
Trailer ATM: the load rating of the axle must support the maximum ATM rating. For multiple axle trailers divide the ATM by the number of axles to
determine the minimum load capacity of each axle.
Maximum trailer width in Australia is 2.5metres.
Tip-to-tip measurement: measure the overall length of the axle including the end of the spindle. This is called a tip-to-tip measurement.
If you are unable to supply us with a tip-to-tip measurement and it is an existing trailer then we will need a face-to-face measurement. We can
then work out a tip-to-tip from this.
A face-to-face measurement: From the face of the hub where the wheel bolts on, to the face on the other side where the wheel bolts on.
If it’s a new trailer and you have built the chassis to get a face to face measurement follow the following steps:

Measure the chassis width.
B.
The clearance between the chassis and the wheel
C.
The backspace of the rim. Put the wheel complete with tyre on a flat surface with the inside of the rim facing the flat surface
and measure the distance from the surface to the inside of the rim.

Identifying hub types
All of the hub assemblies at Trailer Spares Direct come with seals, bearings with the cups (races already pressed), studs and stud nuts
and dust caps. Lazy hubs, hub drums and disc hubs all come in a range of different stud pattern and bearing combinations, so when you
are replacing a hub it is important to identify the correct hub from your trailer. For example, it is possible to have a Ford stud pattern with
LM (Holden) bearings. Our complete listing follows this section.
The best way to identify your hub is to bring the old hub into the store so we can do this for you.
If that’s not possible the following is a guide to determine what hub type you are replacing.

Work out the stud pattern by measuring the PCD (Pitch circle diameter).
The diagram below illustrates how to do this on 4, 5 and 6 stud hubs.

Hydraline
Hydraline is flexible stainless steel braided brake hose which outlasts conventional steel brake tubing due to its durable material in harsh
environments. It is made from braided stainless steel with brass fittings (tube and tube nuts) with a hardened teflon inner tube that limits
the chance of swelling under hydraulic pressure compared to conventional rubber brake line. Comes with a 1 year limited warranty. Meets
Australian and International standards SAE1401J.
Quicker to fit up, with no flaring required on tubing, Hydraline takes about 1/5th of the time to fit in comparison to conventional brake tubing.
There are also less joins than conventional steel brake tubing, adding to the strength and durability.
Hydraline comes in straight fittings for lead lines, for the length of the trailer, and right angle fittings to fit into calipers. The Hydraline brass
fittings have flared ends for fitting into the inverted flare in either 3 way Tee piece or the union in the caliper. Calipers should be supplied with
their own union, however if your caliper does not have this you will need to purchase one for the Hydraline to lock into the caliper correctly.
Hydraline can be installed in two ways:

by sliding the flexible line up the box section of the trailer and pulling through holes where required.
This is not only a neater finish to the trailer, but also means the brake line is protected inside the trailer.

Hydrastar brake actuators
In Australia, if you are towing a trailer weighing more than 2 tonnes, you are required to have a braking system fitted to the trailer including a
breakaway system to ensure your trailer can stop if it separates from the tow vehicle. You must also be able to override the brakes from the driver’s
seat, by using an in-cab controller.
Compatible with the largest range of in car controllers
The driver must be able to control the brakes from the driver’s seat. One of the advantages of the Hydrastar over other systems, is its ability to be
used with a wide range of controllers. It is also the only actuator that is directly compatible with the more advanced in-cab brake controllers, such

A battery and breakaway kit are required to complete the Hydrastar package. The breakaway switch is fitted to both the trailer and the tow vehicle

Maintenance on Hydrastar units
We recommend the use of Dot 4 brake fluid in the Hydrastar units. Regular maintenance should be carried out to increase the longevity of
the unit. Bleeding of the full brake system should be carried out regularly from the Hydrastar unit right through to the calipers to ensure the
full hydraulic system is clear of any grit that can damage the mechanisms of the unit.
Also, we recommend the use of a Hydrastar cover for the longevity of the unit. Made from UV stable material, the cover helps keep moisture
from entering the unit and as a side benefit we have found it reduces theft of the Hydrastar reservoir cap.

Some common mistakes to avoid during installation of the unit.

The power (black) wire from the car’s battery to the car’s socket in pin no. 2 (reverse) must be at least a 6mm gauge wire.
The same gauge wire (6mm), must be used from the trailer plug pin no. 2 to the Hydrastar.
The brake (blue) wire from the brake controller to the car’s socket in pin no. 5 (service brakes) must be at least a 5mm gauge wire.
The same gauge wire (5mm) must be used from the trailer plug pin no. 5 to the Hydrastar.
Note: the blue and black wires in the 7 core trailer wire are not heavy enough a gauge wire to power the unit properly.

LED tape strip lighting
Flexible LED strip lighting is taking the architectural lighting world by storm. Commonly used in the
commercial lighting industry to illuminate cupboards, alcoves and wall recesses where the strip can be
hidden yet provide a soft backlit or specific down light illumination, it is perfect for caravans, campers
and marine applications. For a softer light output, wall-wash or backlighting, we suggest he ‘ambient’
types with either a warm white or cool white colour temperature. If you want maximum power for full room
illumination, ‘high output’ models are available. Pre-cut and pre-wired lengths of 300m, 600m and 1.2m are
available, packed in individual blister packs or bulk packs for manufacturers. Can be cut to desired lengths
with terminals included at 3 LED intervals for soldering. Heat shrink can be used to protect and finish the
connection professionally.
LED map reading lamps
Often referred to as “map lights” and used as an aftermarket accessory for map navigation,
the more popular use today is as a permanent fixture in a caravan, camper trailer or truck
sleeper as a bed side or bunk reading lamp.
These high quality lights utilise a powerful 1W LED providing a crisp clear light output

Terms of sale
The following is an extract of the Terms of Sale applied to every contract for sale entered into by Trailer Spares Direct, herein known as “Seller”.
“Buyer” means the person/s ordering the goods as specified in any invoice, document or order, and if there is more than one Buyer is a reference
to each Buyer jointly and severally. “Goods” means all stock, works or Goods supplied by the Seller to the Buyer at the Buyers request.
Full copy of our Terms of Sale are available on our internet or on request.
General
All orders accepted by, quotations given by and goods supplied by the Seller are subject to these Terms of Sale and prevail over all/any conditions
of the Buyer’s order form, if any, to the extent of any inconsistency. Any exceptions and/or variations to these Terms of Sale must be specifically
agreed to in writing by Seller.
The Seller may change these Terms of Sale at its own discretion and such amended Terms of Sale will be either posted on the Seller’s website or
provided in writing to the Buyer and will apply to all Goods ordered by the Buyer from the date of such notice.
Catalogues, part listings and part numbers
Manufactures’ name, part numbers, symbols or any other references appearing in the Seller catalogues, part listings and/or packaging are used
for reference purposes only and in no way indicate that the products are made by, for, and/or guaranteed by such manufactures.
All data, applicable and/or interchanged, contained in the Seller catalogues and part listings has been compiled as carefully as possible from
reliable and official sources of information available at the time of printing and appears as a general guide only. The information contained in the
catalogue and website is correct to the best of the Seller’s knowledge and belief. However, the Seller cannot and will not assume any responsibility
for possible errors contained in any Seller catalogue, parts listing or publication.

Pricing
Prices and product range are subject to change without notice.
At the Sellers sole discretion a non-refundable deposit may be required, in particular for custom built Goods.
Payment may be made by cash, online banking, credit card or any other method as agreed to between the Buyer and Seller.
Delivery, freight and insurance
Insurance is not included in the freight charge. Insurance, if required, is the responsibility of the Buyer and must be arranged prior to dispatch of the product.
Buyers wishing to nominate a freight company and/or method other than that used by the Seller, must make arrangements prior to dispatch of product. All
costs incurred and insurance, if required, are the responsibility of the Buyer.
The delivery times made known to the Buyer are estimates only and the Seller is not liable for late delivery or non-delivery.
The Seller is not liable for any loss, damage or delay occasioned to the Buyer or its customers arising from late or non-delivery or late installation of the goods.
If the Buyer specifically requests the Seller to deliver the Goods to an unattended location then such Goods shall always be left at sole risk of the Buyer
and it shall be the responsibility to ensure the Goods are insured adequately or at all. In the event that such Goods are lost, damaged or destroyed then
replacement of the Goods shall be at the Buyer’s expense.
Returns
Buyers claiming short delivery or incorrect discount must notify Seller within seven (7) days of invoice date.
No returns will be accepted on custom built Goods, including but not limited to custom length axles, assembled braked or lazy hub axles, where rims
and tyres are fitted or if the Goods are modified or damaged in any way. Any products specially procured or sourced may not be returned for credit.
Products may be returned for credit within fourteen (14) days of invoice date under the following conditions:
• products and packing must be in resalable condition. Products must not have been used or attempted to have been used.
Any evidence that the product has been used will result in the return being rejected.
• freight, if applicable, must be prepaid.
• a copy of the invoice or invoice number must accompany the returned goods.
• a reason for the return of products must be indicated at the time of return.
• returns will not be accepted after sixty (60) days unless by prior arrangement.
These conditions shall to be read or interpreted so as to exclude any conditions necessarily implied by the legislation of the Commonwealth of
Australia and its states and territories.
Warranty and guarantee
Our Goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. To the extent permitted by statute, the liability,
if any, of the Buyer arising from the breach of any implied conditions or warranties, or failure to comply with a statutory guarantee under the
Australian Consumer Law, in relation to the supply of Goods, shall at the Seller’s option be limited to:
• the replacement of the Goods or resupply of the Goods, or the cost of replacement or resupply of the Goods
• refund of the purchase price
• the repair of the Goods or the cost of repair of the Goods.
Subject to the above, the Seller shall not in any circumstances be liable to the Buyer under or in connection with these Terms of Sale, or in
negligence or any other tort or otherwise howsoever, as a result of any act or omission in the course of or in connection with the performance of
these Terms of Sale, for or in respect of any excluded loss.

Unless otherwise specified, this warranty does not cover:
• modified, abused, neglected, accidentally damaged or excessively worn Goods, or Goods that have become damaged or
defective as a result of improper use
• repairs attempted or made by the Buyer, a Consumer or a third party
• conditions or malfunctions caused by the reasonable effects of fair wear and tear or the malfunction of normally wearing parts.
• products that are not distributed by the Seller through an authorised distributor or reseller.
The Buyer must present proof of purchase when making a warranty claim.
Liability
The Seller’s liability shall not extend to any consequential or indirect losses incurred by the Buyer or its customers.
The Seller will not be subject to any liability which exceeds the replacement value of the subject Goods. The Seller will not be liable for any
contingent, consequential or punitive damages arising in any way whatsoever. The Buyer acknowledges this express limitation of liability and
agrees to limit any claim accordingly.
The Seller shall not be liable for any claim, loss or expense sustained or incurred by any person arising in any way as a result of the unavailability
of Goods or any delay in delivery of the Goods or any part thereof or any failure to deliver the Goods or part thereof.
Any advice, recommendation, information or representation provided by the Seller as to the quality or performance of the Goods or their suitability
for a particular purpose or otherwise in relation to the Goods.
Intellectual property rights
The Buyer warrants that any design or instruction furnished to the Seller shall not be such as will cause the Seller to infringe any intellectual
property rights (including patents, registered designs, trademarks, copyright, confidential information and the like) in the execution of the Buyer’s
order and the Buyer agrees to indemnify the Seller against any infringement or unauthorised use of the intellectual property rights arising out of
the manufacture or use of the Goods and it is especially agreed that the sale and purchase of Goods does not confer on the Buyer any licence
or rights under any intellectual property rights which is the property of the Seller. The Buyer acknowledges and agrees that the Seller and/or its
affiliates are the sole and exclusive owners of all trademarks and trade names used by the Seller and its affiliates in connection with the Goods and
any local language variants thereof (the “Trademarks”). Any use of the Trademarks by the Buyer shall be made only with the Seller’s prior written
approval and solely in connection with the advertising, promoting or selling of the Goods and any such use shall inure to the benefit of the Seller
and/or its affiliates. In no event shall the Buyer or its affiliates file any application to register a trademark or a domain name or use any trademark,
domain name, business name or trade style that incorporates or is confusingly similar to any of the Trademarks. If the Buyer files any application of
any kind that incorporates or is confusingly similar to any Trademark, it shall immediately transfer such application or any rights derived therefrom
to the Seller or an affiliate as designated by the Seller.
Governing law
These Terms of Sale shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Queensland. The Buyer and the Seller agree to submit to
the non-exclusive jurisdiction of Queensland and the Federal Court of Australia.
