Data Translation’s DT9800-EC
Series USB modules, the
DT300 Series, DT3000 Series,
or DataAcq-EZ data acquisition boards, the 5B Series
signal conditioning modules
make an ideal solution for
applications requiring the
monitoring and control of
temperature, pressure, flow
and other analog signals.
Easy Interface to
Real-World Signals
The 5B Series signal conditioning
modules provide a compact, low-cost,
high-performance method of interfacing
real-world analog signals with Data
Translation data acquisition boards.
They directly connect to standard
transducers, including thermocouples,
potentiometers, RTDs and strain gauges
in addition to voltage, millivolt, current
and frequency inputs. The 5B Series
input modules feature complete signal
conditioning functions including
240 V rms input protection, filtering,
amplification, 1500 V rms isolation,
linearization for RTDs and thermocouples, sensor excitation and a
high-level 0-5 V or ±5 V analog output.
The output modules accept a 0-5 V input
from the data acquisition board and
provide an isolated current output.
Each module is compact (2.25 in. x
2.25 in. x 0.60 in.), hard potted and
identical in pinout. This allows you to
configure the modules in a mix-andmatch fashion on an eight- or 16-channel
backplane to meet the requirements of
each application.

High-Accuracy,
High-Reliability Design
applications. A single +5 V supply provides power for the modules.
The 5B Series modules feature ±0.05%
calibrated accuracy and nonlinearity
of only ±0.02%. The modules
accurately process low-level signals
in electrically noisy environments by
providing 1500 V rms continuous
transformer isolation which eliminates
ground loops, protects against transients
and solves common-mode voltage
problems. All field wiring terminations,
including sensor inputs, excitations,
and current outputs, are protected against
continuous 240 V rms line voltage.
You can install the modules in an
eight- or 16-channel backplane. A holddown screw insures that the modules
are securely fastened. Each backplane
incorporates screw terminals for field
wiring inputs and outputs, and cold junction
compensation sensors
for thermocouple
Connecting to the
Data Acquisition Board
The 5B Series backplanes directly cable to
the screw terminal panels for the DT300
Series, DT3000 Series (PCI-EZ) and the
DataAcq EZ™ Series data acquisition
boards (DT01-EZ, DT16-EZ, DT21-EZ,
DT23-EZ, DT24-EZ-PGL, DT31-EZ,
and DT34-EZ). By connecting the
5B01 or 5B08 sixteen or eight
channel backplane to the
STP3000, DT730 or STP-EZ
screw terminal panels, you
still have access to all
other inputs and
outputs of the
data acquisition
board.
For the DT9800-EC Series USB modules, connections are made using the
AC1315 cable.
Accessories
A 16 channel backplane (5B01) and an
eight channel backplane (5B08) are
available, as well as two +5 V power
supplies. The PWR-955 is a 1 Amp supply,
the PWR-977 is a 5 Amp supply. The
AC1315 cable (2 foot, 26-pin to 26-pin)
connects either the 5B01 or the 5B08 to
the STP300, DT 730 or the STP-EZ.
