Syringe and Membrane Filters
Filter Device Selection
Consider the number of samples, the sample volume, and
the filtering mechanism you prefer to use.
Syringe Filters
Filtration is achieved by pushing the sample through the
membrane with a syringe or other luer-connection device.
Syringe filters allow you to control the rate of flow, which can
be critical with delicate samples. Syringe filters also allow you
to filter into nearly any tube, vial, or column that represents
the next step in your analysis.
Centrifuge Filter Tubes
Filtration is achieved by pulling the sample through the
membrane with centrifugal force. This allows you to
simultaneously filter as many samples as your centrifuge
can hold, and captures your filtrate in a clean microtube.
Pre-Cut Membrane
Multiple diameters offer a wide range of sample capacities,
up to multiple liters. You need a filtration apparatus, such as
a filter funnel or other vacuum-driven filtration device.

Membrane selection
Choose a filter membrane based on the size and amount of particulate in the sample, the membrane’s chemical compatibility
with the sample matrix, and potential interactions (binding) between the membrane and the sample components. This table offers

Syringe and Membrane Filters
InnoSep™
Canadian Life Science Offers Affordable, Quality Syringe Filters
Polypropylene housings are highly solvent resistant and
exhibit low extractables. They are ideal for filtering samples or
solvents used in chromatography.
Housing
4mm syringe filters are useful for filtration up to 1mL of low particulate level chromatography of biological samples.
13mm syringe filters have a filtration area of 1.3cm2 and a holdup volume of less than 30uL with an air purge.
Ideal for samples up to 12mL.
25mm syringe filters have a filtration area of 4.9cm2 and offer the
fastest sample filtration.
Size
The cellulose acetate and polysulfone membranes are all low
protein binding, which makes them well suited for filtration of
biological samples.
PTFE membrane in a PP housing can be used to filter solvents
and strong acids.
Although PTFE is inherently hydrophobic, it can be made
hydrophilic by pre-wetting the membrane with methanol and
then rinsing with water.
Nylon or polypropylene are ideal for filtration of chromatography
samples.
Polypropylene membranes exhibit near zero extractables, are
very resistant to solvents and most chemicals and would be the
first choice for filtration of chromatography samples.
Membrane
Next to our excellent InnoSep™ line, we are distributor for the GE Osmonics transfer membranes.
GE Osmonics Laboratory Products is the only manufacturer who actually produces all the membranes they sell into the tissue
culture media preparation, LC sample preparation, transfer membrane and microbiological detection applications.
GE Osmonics is a leading manufacturer and worldwide marketer of high-technology water purification, fluid filtration, fluid
separation and fluid handling equipment and components.

pH-Fix Test Strips
pH-Fix Test Strips
Established clear plastic
pH-Fix test strips are used for rapid pH testing directly at the
point of interest. They are always ready for immediate use.
Coming with a complete colour chart they are readily calibrated. As single use devices they are completely maintenance
free. For careful testing of dangerous, poisonous or aggresive
liquids the strips have the optimal design. The longest
available handle effectively protects the user from contact with
the sample. This increases the safety of operation and adds
handling ease.
Patented technology
for optimal sample protection
In the production the indicator reacts with the paper of the test
pad to form a chemical bond. The dye is fixed to the test strip
and can not bleed into the sample. This protects the sample
against contamination and enables measurements in weakly
buffered or strongly alkaline solutions.
Brilliant colours for exact results
pH-Fix test strips feature up to four different indicator pads to
cover the complete pH-range. The colour chart exactly
matches both colour and position of the pads on the strips.
This enables highly precise pH-determination and makes the
test strips rapid and reliable.
Convenient flat boxes
Users appreciate the quality of pH-Fix. Its classic design
requires small space and fits into the breast pocket of every
lab coat.

TSS Filters for Standard Methods 2540 C and 2540 D
Ensure worry free audits by taking the
guesswork out of method compliance
Xenosep TSS Filters are specifically designed to ensure
compliance with the filter preparation requirements of
Standard Methods 2540 C (Total Dissolved Solids Dried at
180°C) and Standard Methods 2540 D (Total Suspended
Solids at 103-105°C). We removed the guesswork typically
associated with audit checklist question #6 by making the
wrinkle side of the filter visibly different than the screen side.
Now everyone can clearly see and easily determine which
side needs to face up to ensure compliance.
In addition to more distinguishable filter surface characteristics
shown at left, these 1.5 µm binder-free, fast flowing, fine
porosity borosilicate glass microfiber filters have been optimized to eliminate pin holing and minimize fiber shedding; two
quality issues known to affect other brands of TSS filters.
Xenosep TSS Filters are readily available in the popular sizes
below for use in a wide variety of CoorsTek chemical-porcelain
labware including Bitumen, Buchner, Gooch, Hirsch, and
many other popular filter holders.
Wrinkle side faces up
Other sizes are available upon request.

SPE Systems for EPA Method 1664A
XENOSEP® SPE Systems for EPA Method 1664A
• Extract samples 5 times faster,
• Distill samples 3 times faster
• Significantly lower cost per test
Step 1
The first SPE filter and glass apparatus specially designed
for dirty wastewater samples.
Integral design maximizes filtration efficiency, simplifies
analyte recovery, and ensures reproducible results.
Step 1
17 seconds is all it takes to filter a 40 mg/L* OPR and achieve
98% recovery. Thatʼs 50 times faster than a typical single layer
SPE filter with 89% recovery. In addition, triple layer Xenosep
SPE Filters have 5 times the filtration capacity already built-in
for the MS, MSD, and hard-to-filter samples.
*As required by EPA Method 1664A
Step 2
Extract 1L sample
Step 3
Note: Lab stand and
clamps not included
Table 1
Compare the Options
Step 2
Less filter clogging enables more efficient filter drying and
eluting with less solvent. Xenosep sodium sulfate columns
save time by eliminating off-line drying steps or repouring the
extracted water sample back into the separatory funnel.
Elute and dry extract
Step 3
Less extraction solvent means faster distillation. Final hexane
extracts distill to dryness in about 10 minutes. Unique flat
sided Xenosep flasks reduce oven drying times by 67% so you
get QC tests in the dessicator 3 times faster (see Table 1).
