About Institute Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi (IIT-BHU), formerly known as Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU), is a public engineering institution located in Varanasi, India. Founded in 1919 as an integral part of the BHU, it was designated status of IIT under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2012 passed in Parliament. IIT (BHU) has 13 departments and three interdisciplinary schools. Admission for undergraduates is through the Indian Institute of Technology, Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE), an annual college entrance examination used as the sole admission criterion by the sixteen IITs. IIT-JEE is considered to be a highly competitive examination as reiterated by the fact that it has a very low admission rate. Admission for postgraduate courses is though Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for postgraduate courses. Beyond Academics Three fests spanning over 4-5 days draw huge sponsorships, are fully organized by student body. TECHNEX, the annual techno-management fest incorporates challenging competitions, innovative workshops and lectures by renowned personalities. KASHIYATRA, cultural extravaganza of the year makes the campus of IIT (BHU) completely transformed into a place buzzing with flurry of activities. SPARDHA, the all India sports festival of IIT (BHU) generates a lot of enthusiasm in campus where students from different colleges compete in a total of 18-20 sporting events. COORDINATOR’S MESSAGE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY), VARANASI The School of Biomedical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) is a well recognized institution engaged in teaching and research in the areas of biomedical in India. School through synergy of teaching and research, offers strong, broad-based instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, seeking to educate the next leaders in technology and applied science. Earlier SBME students have set the bar high with their elite research works at both national & international level. I wish to extend my regards for all students of school and wish them success for future. Sincerely, Dr. A.K.
