Classification Electrical Engineering > Electrical Installation and Maintenance Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard has been developed for learning and assessment on-job. 2 Achievement of this unit standard does not by itself imply that trainees may legally perform prescribed electrical work in their own right. Until they are registered and licensed under the Electricity Act 1992, trainees are assisting, and must work under the supervision of a Supervisor of Electrical Work when carrying out prescribed electrical work. The term safe and sound practice relating to the installation of electrical equipment is defined in AS/NZS 3000:2007. 5 Range Demonstration of safe working practices and installation in accordance with safe and sound practice are essential components of assessment of this unit standard. 6 The number of installations and type of power outlets chosen are left to the discretion of the assessor, but must be sufficient to assess competence in all outcomes of the unit. Evidence requirements 1.1 Customer’s requirements are determined. 1.2 Customer is advised of the most suitable power outlet arrangement using a location diagram. Range number and position of plug-sockets, provision for extensions. Outcome 2 Wire and install power outlets. Range power outlets – single-phase switched socket outlets; may include outlets protected by residual current device (RCD). Evidence requirements 2.1 Power outlet cabling is installed according to current regulations and standards. 2.2 Power outlets are installed square and flush, and are securely attached using fastenings appropriate to the weight and design of the fitting and the material of the mounting. 2.3 Power outlets are positioned and connected according to the location diagram. Outcome 3 Test installed power outlets. Evidence requirements 3.1 Power outlets are tested according to current regulations and standards. 3.2 Power outlets are checked for correct operation. 3.3 Customer is advised of resetting requirements of RCD outlets if applicable.
