STANDARD DRESS GUIDELINES
White Settlement ISD implements standard dress for all
students, which is a vital step toward furthering
excellence and better preparing our students to dress for
success for college, their careers, and life as adults. It is
designed to ensure a safe and positive climate and the
best environment for learning.
Administrative discretion will be given for all dress
code decisions. Anything that is deemed to be
distracting in the classroom/school environment will
not be allowed. The principal shall have the right to
appraise any current fashion or fad and determine its
appropriateness for school wear.

ACCEPTABLE
• Dresses must have sleeves and be at least
mid-thigh.
TOPS
• Collared, polo or oxford-style dress shirts,
turtlenecks or knit-collared shirts and sweaters and
sweatshirts; must fit appropriately
• Brewer or school T-shirts in any color (No other
T-shirts may be worn.)
• College/military T-shirts
BOTTOMS
• Pants must fit appropriately and at the waist.
• Jeans (without rips, tears or holes)
• Denim shorts, skirts, capris and jumpers
• Dockers® or similar style pants, dress pants, capris
or shorts in tan or light khaki, navy, gray, white,
brown or black
• Skirts, skorts and jumpers in tan or light khaki,
navy, gray, white, brown, black or denim.
• Form-fitting garments such as leggings and spandex
must be worn with an appropriate shirt, dress, skirt,
jumper, etc. that covers the bottom.
• Joggers, sweats, warm-up pants
• Shorts, skirts, jumpers and skorts are mid-thigh
or longer.
Grades Pre-Kindergarten through 4 Only
• Girls must wear shorts under dresses, skirts and
jumpers (i.e. cheer shorts)
• Maximum shoe height is 2 inches.
Special Needs Students
• Students who have a special need may apply for a
waiver. Waivers will be evaluated and approved by
the building principal.
Other Guidelines
• Students shall not wear inappropriate make-up,
distracting accessories, or hazardous jewelry. Any
items worn that cause a disruption or safety hazard
are not allowable (i.e. grills, spacers, etc.).
• Students participating in physical education
class/athletics must wear athletic footwear to
participate.
• Principals/the district may designate certain days
per year as spirit days and will determine what can
be worn on those days.
• Royal blue spirit days will be held on Fridays, and
all T-shirts must be royal blue. In the event that
Friday is a holiday, Royal blue spirit day will be the
Thursday immediately prior.
UNACCEPTABLE
Administrative discretion will be given for all dress
code decisions. Unacceptable items include, but are
not limited to, the following:
• Sagging pants
• Sleeveless shirts, dresses or open back tops/dresses
• Shirts that are tight, low-cut or show cleavage
or midriff
• Torn, cut/slashed material that reveals any area of
the skin or undergarments
• Hoods or headwear worn in building
• Oversized, sagging or baggy clothing
• Pajama pants or similar styles
• Athletic, soccer or boxer-style shorts
• Slits/kick pleats in skirts that extend above the knee
• Flip flops
• Aqua socks and non-athletic toe shoes
• Slippers, house shoes
• Skate shoes, Heelies®
• Fishnet hosiery/clothing
• Gages must be plugged.
• Hats, caps, visors, head coverings, do-rags,
bandanas, sweatbands and sunglasses
• Any clothing, jewelry or accessories that may be
considered obscene or offensive or have drug, sex,
tobacco or alcoholic references or designs may not
be worn.
