TO MEET ADVANCED SECURITY AND SAFETY NEEDS
Recognition from UL and the Department of
Homeland Security Underscores Reliability, Effectiveness
MINNEAPOLIS, June 9, 2014 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that two of
its flagship building technologies, Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) and Digital Video Manager
(DVM), have been recognized by noted safety and security agencies. UL certified EBI and
Department of Homeland Security designated DVM as meeting performance criteria for critical
applications.

do exactly what they’re designed to do — a potential life-and-death matter when it comes to
security and safety equipment,” said Paul Orzeske, president of Honeywell Building Solutions.
“EBI and DVM have a long track record of delivering protection and value, and this recognition
further underscores their effectiveness.”
The latest release of Honeywell EBI, an intelligent building management platform that
integrates core automation systems for simplified management and control, received certification
from UL for its intrusion-detection capabilities. This adds to the platform’s existing massnotification capabilities using voice over IP. EBI has demonstrated it can integrate with security,
fire and life-safety equipment to receive signals when a potential issue is identified, and reliably and
securely deliver messages to operators, employees, etc. — all within strict timeframes.
This is vital during security incidents, weather emergencies and other acute events. And
it’s an imperative in settings like a pharmaceutical lab where a technology fault could jeopardize
employee safety, as well as billions in research and development.
In addition to the main building management system, Honeywell can provide customers an
end-to-end solution. EBI integrates with the company’s UL-certified commercial security panels,

using National Institute of Standards and Technology-compliant data encryption to exchange data.
This functionality is required for government facilities that house or process classified information.
With mass notification, the Honeywell XLS3000 fire alarm system, also UL listed, can
quickly detect fire conditions and communicate to EBI, which can then interface with Honeywell
Instant Alert®, a Web-based notification service, to broadcast a warning or evacuation instructions
via email, phone or text.
Along with the UL listings, Honeywell DVM, a digital surveillance system that’s part of the
EBI suite, received Support Anti-Terrorism for Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act
Designation from the Department of Homeland Security. Designated technologies meet high safety
and security parameters, and limit risk in case of a catastrophic event, protecting users both
physically and financially. DVM now carries an added level of insurance and protection, bolstering
its usefulness for critical infrastructure and other security implementations.
