A pioneer in photovoltaics
As a specialist in power electronics, REFUsol GmbH has been
producing high-quality converters in Germany for more than
48 years. Since the beginning of 2013 REFUsol has been a part
of the American company Advanced Energy Inc. Therefore
Advanced Energy is one of the three most important manufacturers for photovoltaic inverters.
As early as in 1997, REFUsol developed the first line-commutated
photovoltaic inverter, based on these many years of experience. Today, our products can be found in solar power systems and solar parks all over the world. Our quality standards
are stringent. That's why we're certified according to DIN EN
ISO 9001:2000.
REFUsol GmbH focuses on developing, manufacturing
and distributing efficient photovoltaic inverters. With a peak
efficiency of 98.7% REFUsol inverters are among the most
efficient on the market. The product range comprises string
and central inverters with power outputs ranging from 1.8 kW
to 1.3 MW. The variety of applications for our systems is
correspondingly extensive, from single-family houses to megawatt solar parks.
Our commitment to photovoltaics extends beyond the
development and manufacture of cutting-edge technology.
For our customers, we have developed a web-based tool for
documenting the performance of a PV system day after day:
the REFUlog internet portal. This enables customers to call up,
display in graphical form and evaluate all important operating
parameters of their solar plants.

system - in high or low levels of sunlight.
And because we focus on efficiency across the entire
system, we have designed our components to be compact
and resource-saving, and to deliver the exceptional reliability
that customers can expect from our products.
We take up the challenge of our competitors. And we're happy
to take on critical experts. Because we know what our products
can do. For example, they demonstrate maximum efficiency
precisely at the point where solar generators generally
operate. When our products are scrutinized in rigorous
tests, we're delighted. Such testing repeatedly confirms to
us that we are making first-class photovoltaic products based
on good ideas. The REFUsol photovoltaic inverter for example,
where even at 2.5% of the nominal power, 90% of the solar
power produced is fed into the grid. These features have
been tested and confirmed by several independent institutes.
Among others, the magazine Photon tested the REFUsol 013K,
the REFUsol 017K, the REFUsol 020K and the REFUsol 020K-SCI
and found them to be "very good" and "very good +".
Fast and precise MPP
tracking
For us, sustainability also means harnessing an endless resource
like sunlight efficiently. After all, it's only through efficiency
that sustainability becomes profitable. Efficiency was therefore the guiding principle when designing our range of solar
inverters.
Incorporating a new circuit topology enabled us to increase efficiency levels over a wide input voltage range. Peak
efficiency is now in excess of 98%, with European efficiency over 97%. These kinds of figures only lead to high yields if
the MPP tracking optimally adjusts components to the ambient
conditions. In order to achieve this we have developed a new,
particularly fast and yet very precise MPP algorithm. On the
basis of this algorithm, the MPP tracking efficiency reaches a
top value of 99.9%.

The 1.8 – 4.2 kW inverter, like all members of the REFUsol
family of inverters,
offers high efficiency, quality and
reliability. High
output for small
systems.
With their low voltage ranges, the single-phase infeed string
inverters in the performance classes 1.8 – 4.2 kW are particularly suitable for small systems or expanding large systems (for example in cases of shading). They comply with all
requirements for IP65 protection – their housing provides
reliable protection from dust and water, including high pressure washing.
These systems can therefore be installed out in the open
without any problem. All five string inverters are easy to
handle and compact. Operation and monitoring are easy,
further facilitated by the graphic display, the integrated
RS485 interface and an Ethernet connection. The integrated
data logger saves you time and money during the installation.
The inverter can send all the important data to the Internet
portal REFUlog, which gives you an insight into the operating
status and productivity of your system at any time.
The single-phase inverters achieve an efficiency of up to
98.6 % even at low irradiation. As a result of these high
efficiency levels, convection cooling is all that's needed to
dissipate the heat. The extremely low noise emissions mean
you can even enjoy your solar yield in peace when it is sunny.

The three-phase string inverters in the 8.25 to 20 kW power
classes are perfect for rooftop systems from 8 kW upwards,
right through to megawatt parks. They comply with all requirements for IP65 protection – their housing provides reliable
protection from dust and water, including high pressure washing. These systems can therefore be installed out in the open
without any problem. All five string inverters are easy to handle
and compact. For example, they can be installed on an area
smaller than three A4 pages laid side by side. Operation and
monitoring are easy, further facilitated by the graphic display,
the integrated RS485 interface and an Ethernet connection.
Even at low irradiation, the three-phase inverters achieve an
efficiency of up to 98.2%. As a result of these high efficiency
levels, convection cooling is all that's needed to dissipate the
heat. Thanks to the low voltage fluctuations against earth, the
transformerless devices can also be used for many thin-film
modules.
The integrated data logger can send all important operating data to the REFUlog internet portal. For visualization and
evaluation purposes, data can be transferred via the standard
cable or an optional wireless connection using the new REFUconnect radio module. Comprehensive information on operating
conditions and the productivity of your plant is available at any

The 008K– 020K three-phase inverters are the tried and tested
partners of the photovoltaics sector. They deliver very high
efficiency levels, run reliably and demonstrate their high technological maturity day after day. As experienced developers, however, we are always setting ourselves new goals. The threshold
between high and maximum performance can only be crossed
by those who overcome technical limitations. In developing the
REFUsol 020K- SCI we have taken this step towards absolute
maximum output. Equipped with special materials like silicon
carbide and a series of optimizations, the REFUsol 020K-SCI
can do everything that bit better than its cousins. With a peak
efficiency of 98.7%, it works particularly quietly. With its wide
input voltage range from 490 to 800 V, fast and precise MPP
tracking and its light weight of just under 40 kg the REFUsol
020K-SCI sets the standard in the category up to 20 kW. The
REFUsol 020K-SCI is cutting edge technology at its most refined
– a high-end inverter for system operators who want to achieve
the maximum yield from their PV system.

The transformerless REFUsol 023K string inverter with 460 VAC
complements the product range between the 008K–020K
string inverters with 400 VAC and the high-power REFUsol
333K central inverter with 690 VAC. With an output voltage
of 460 V and a input voltage range from 575 to 850 V, the
REFUsol 023K-460 VAC is the perfect choice for medium voltage applications in large-scale PV systems. It has an efficiency
level of more than 98%.
Like the other inverters in the REFUsol range, the REFUsol
023K- 460 VAC works with the fast and precise REFUsol MPP
tracking system. The data-logger, RS485 interface and Ethernet connection make data communication easy. It can be configured quickly and easily over a network – even wirelessly with
our REFUconnect solution. You can analyze the power budget
of the systems being operated using the web-based evaluation
tool REFUlog. Here you can focus fully on parameters, curves
and values as there is no need to worry about maintaining the
023K-460 VAC. It works with maintenance-free convection
cooling.

REFUsol 333K.
REFUsol 333K is the high-efficiency central inverter for open
field sites and industrial rooftops. Low system costs and an
extremely high level of efficiency of over 98.4 % are just
two of the many good reasons to use this model for large-scale
projects. Operated together, just three of these devices provide one megawatt of power.
Despite being developed for high power outputs, this
inverter is elegantly reserved in terms of its weight and the
space it needs. A weight of just 850 kg, spread throughout a
compact housing, is beneficial in terms of transport and infrastructure costs.
Thanks to a standardized voltage level of 690VAC, this inverter is the ideal solution for developers of large-scale PV
systems.
The high output voltage enables parallel operation of multiple inverters on only one transformer. In large-scale systems,
fewer transformers are required and cabling lengths are shorter on the DC-side. Device, infrastructure and maintenance costs
are therefore considerably less.

When the electrical performance parameters reach ranges reserved for large-scale systems, nothing surpasses the
REFUsol 500K– 630K inverters. Their use begins where others
reach their limits. They combine nearly 50 years of experience in power electronics and switch cabinet design with current developments like the fast and precise MPP-Tracker of
REFUsol models 008K– 023K. Both devices have effective water
cooling and the 630K even has a compressor. Both devices are
equipped with anti-islanding functionality.
Solid in construction, robust in operation, precise in alignment
– REFUsol also impresses in the upper power classes. And we
embrace our efficiency principle here too, where huge currents of up to 1300 A flow. The peak efficiency of this central
inverter is over 98.1%, with a European efficiency of 97.6%
and an MPPT range from 460 to 850 V. Even at extremely high
power levels we understand how to make careful use of
resources.

Using the REFUsol central inverters as a starting point, we have
designed the turnkey Powerbox REFUspb. Suitable for power
rates from 500 kW to 1.3 MW, the powerbox can also be
equipped, if required, so that it works smoothly, even in extreme
load conditions.
The ambient conditions at photovoltaic sites around
the world vary sharply. Therefore we have sought technical
solutions which can be used to expand the usage spectrum of REFUsol central inverters and the Powerbox
REFUspb to extreme limit ranges. We have therefore opted
for an additional, optional cooling system. If requested by
the customer, a hermetically sealed cooling system can be
added to the system's standard cooling capabilities. This enables
higher admissible maximum ambient temperatures and protects
the system's components from external influences such as dust
or air with a high salt content. The REFUspb is therefore particularly suitable for solar parks near the desert, by the sea, or in
other areas with extreme weather conditions.

PV Heater.
We have developed the PV Heater for everyone who wants to
generate efficient heat in their house with photovoltaics. The
PV Heater is a new approach in heating technology: It utilizes
power from photovoltaic modules in order to heat up tap water
with a heating rod in the home hot water tank with.
The PV Heater can save up to 60 percent of heating
energy for hot water generation, with an efficiency of 99
percent. That means: Nearly all energy that the photovoltaic
modules provided to the PV Heater flows in the form of heat
in the heating circuit of your house.
The PV Heater can be integrated into existing heating
systems. The tank only requires a free 1.5 inch connection.
Elaborate heat exchangers and lines for transport media can
be omitted.

The radio module REFUconnect secures the wireless communication of all inverters of a PV system. It can network together
up to 2000 inverters and transfer their data.
REFUconnect uses a radio standard, which also establishes
and maintains secure and reliable connections even in high
interference industrial environments. In this context, the
module is simultaneously used as a repeater, so that distances
over several kilometers can be bridged without difficulty. The
range of such an individual connection can total up to 300 m.
The radio modules have very low power consumption and
are supplied directly by the inverter. The network is password-protected. This means that data is transferred securely,
remaining invisible to non-authorized network participants.

Get the measure of your PV system's performance. The external temperature and irradiation sensor accurately captures the
two ambient parameters, which together have an impact on the
current performance of a PV system: temperature and light
intensity. It is compatible with all REFUsol 008K to 630K inverters. The device's active temperature compensation function
increases its measuring accuracy. The extended measurement
range of up to 1300 W/m2, the individual calibration to the standard measurement signal and the possibility of measuring
module temperature make the sensor a powerful data collection tool. The integrated data-logger records the temperature
and irradiation values and communicates them to the REFUlog
system. These additional values allow you to display the operating conditions of your PV system even more accurately and to
identify system errors more quickly. In the REFUlog online monitoring portal, this data provides information on the performance
ratio.

If high power needs to be achieved where space is tight
REFUsol inverters can be arranged on top of one another in
three packs to save space. As convection cooling is no longer
sufficient under these conditions, we have developed the active
fan module REFUpowercap. It is designed for REFUsol inverters
with rated power from 13 to 23 kW. The additional air flow helps
you use space more effectively in cramped conditions.
By supplementing the system with this fan, the permissible
ambient temperature of the inverters is increased by 5°C. This
enables you to reliably operate REFUsol inverters in small
spaces and where ambient temperatures are high.

Photovoltaic systems in Germany must have a so-called feedin management. Many other countries also require this in
their feed-in connection norms and regulations. ParkControl
is a comprehensive system with which the system operator can
record and evaluate all parameters that are important for the
feed-in management. Grid operators can adapt the power of
a photovoltaic system so that the network is optimally utalized. Power reduction via remote control, dynamic adaptation
of the reactive power and power monitoring are some typical
features of ParkControl. The system is installed and operated
by computer via an interface or a web browser. Since the requirements vary depending on the system, we offer Park
Control in four versions. The specifications for the local utilities can be modified via parameters. You always receive an individual solution in which costs and utilization are in an ideal ratio.
Besides a direct Ethernet communication, it is also possible to set up a RS485 connection with the REFUpmu. A total of
62 inverters can be connected to one REFUpmu; and up to 128
REFUpmu can be connected to one ParkControl.

To be able to provide pertinent information on the yields and
cost-effectiveness of a PV system, the relevant operating data
has to be captured and analyzed. Therefore every REFUsol
inverter has an integrated data logger. This records all key
operating parameters and communicates these to an online
database.
REFUsol customers can analyze and monitor their PV
system data through the Internet portal www.refulog.com.
Every REFUsol inverter can be connected using a local network
or the Internet. The installation takes place for all devices via
Plug & Play. Via an Ethernet connection or optionally via the
REFUconnect radio module, the inverters communicate with
your network. This means you can evaluate the data from an
unlimited number of inverters anywhere in the world. Data can
be recorded over long time frames for all inverters. In addition
to an automated performance check, status monitoring and
error reporting options are also integrated.
The REFUlog pro version also offers, among other things,
an expanded, automated monitoring function. This immediately informs you in the event of deviations of the setpoint/
actual values via email.

For operators of PV plants, flexibility is key. That's why we've
developed a warranty concept which gives our customers the
exact degree of flexibility that they need.
Over and above our free-of-charge basic warranty, it's up
to you which warranty cover you choose – for just a year or up
to 20.
For our central inverters too, we also provide a maintenance concept tailored to your needs. Routine servicing is
the best way to prevent downtime and unexpected repairs.
Ensure high yields from your large-scale PV plants in the long
term with individual maintenance contracts.
REFUsol inverters are efficient and low-maintenance. If a technical problem should, however, occur our expert service team
will be pleased to assist you. For us, service isn't just a job,

If a defect is reported on a working day a replacement
