Mann [you may use the eBook if you choose] Software: WileyPlus- Internet-based program [access code comes with new text] [See info on WileyPlus at the end of the Syllabus.] Course Description: This course explores descriptive and inferential statistics. Topics include: summarizing data using pictorials as well as computational techniques, probability of discrete and continuous variables, using the central limit theorem to relate statistics to parameters of a population, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression analysis. Computer software is utilized to practice, analyze, and verify skills learned throughout the course. Prerequisite: Earn a “C” or better in Intermediate Algebra (MAT 1033) Calculators: You will need a scientific calculator that performs basic math functions. Graphing calculators are acceptable and encouraged [but not required]. I will use a TI-83+ for classroom demonstration. CAS calculators will not be allowed. Cell phone usage of any kind in the classroom is prohibited by IRSC. If you are using your cell phone in ANY way during a test, you will receive a zero (0) for that test. Cell phones should be turned completely OFF and PUT AWAY when you enter the classroom. Attendance will be taken at each meeting. Everyone is expected to be present, on time, and prepared for each class. You are responsible for any work missed during an absence. You should contact another student in class for this information, or email me as soon as possible. Grade/points: 100 – WileyPlus quizzes [score based on % earned on WileyPlus chapter quizzes] 50 – WileyPlus homework [score based on % earned on WileyPlus chapter homework] 50 - Chapter 13 Group Projects, Active Participation, and other Stuff 400 - 4 tests [there is no cumulative final, Test 4 is the last test] No grades will be dropped. Please prepare for each test thoroughly. Your final grade is your percentage of: points earned divided by 550. Scale: A - 90 – 100% B - 80 – 89% C - 70 – 79% D - 60 – 69% F - 0 – 59% W – You must withdraw by the withdrawal date. I – An Incomplete can be given only if your grade is at least a “C” in the course and you cannot finish the course for some unexpected, valid reason. Only one makeup test is permitted per student-NO EXCEPTIONS. Makeup Quizzes: No makeup quizzes will be given and there is no ‘replacement policy’ for quizzes. Quizzes may be viewed past the due date [so you can use them to review for tests.] Makeup Homework: If you attempt a homework assignment after the due date, there will be a 30% penalty. Cheating/Plagiarism: If you are found cheating in any way, you will receive a grade of zero. You are expected to do your own work at all times.
