China and the Chinese
Society of Radiology
European School of Radiology
The European School of Radiology (ESOR) is an established and growing
institution, fulfilling the mission of the European Society of Radiology (ESR)
in the field of education. Its main goal is to assist in harmonising radiological
education in Europe. With its wide range of activities, ESOR additionally aims
to raise standards in the field of scientific radiology, to extend and coordinate
teaching resources worldwide and to help young radiologists to obtain the
knowledge and skills to fulfil tomorrow’s requirements.
ESOR stands for education in partnership.
The Visiting Professorship Programme is implemented with the
Chinese Society of Radiology as well as our valuable partner GE Healthcare
Medical Diagnostics China.
All ESOR activities are exclusively for ESR members. Further information
about ESR membership is available on the ESR website www.myESR.org
Date of publishing: February 2013
While the greatest care is taken in compiling this information,
the editor does not take responsibility for any printing errors or omissions.
Dear Colleagues,
In keeping with its evolving role as an international provider
of radiological education, ESOR has introduced a Visiting
Professorship Programme. This is to complement and round
off its existing international branch and therefore it is aimed
at countries outside Europe and across the globe.
The scale, duration and contents of the project are to be
versatile to meet a wide range of specified local needs.
Programmes are directed to and hosted by applying
Radiology Departments and Academic Institutions
worldwide. They are designed to be intense and include
formal lectures on preselected topics, workshops,
interactive discussions and exchange of expertise, all
delivered by invited renowned European teachers who are
willing to participate.
In addition to topics related to clinical competence, the
programme will include a short introduction and discussion
on wide-spread issues - consistent with the radiological
culture in Europe. It will also include quality management,
research methodologies, teaching, mentoring and
administration skills.
It is estimated that in the long-term the programme will
have an impact by mentoring on site, transferring and
advancing radiological practice and patient care, creating
lasting institutional and academic links between hosting
departments and visiting experts.
The first implementation of the programme was established
in China in partnership with the Chinese Society of Radiology
and made possible by an unrestricted grant from GE
Healthcare Medical Diagnostics China. In 2013 ten major
Chinese Radiology Departments will benefit from the
attendance of ten European Visiting Professors enrolling in
the “Radiological ELITE Project”.
European Radiologists,
Chinese Colleagues,
We Chinese have an old saying: ‘what a pleasure it is to
have friends coming from afar’.
The ‘Radiological ELITE Project 2013’ has been created
jointly by the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the
Chinese Society of Radiology (CSR) through the European
School of Radiology (ESOR). The project is included in the
newly established ESOR Visiting Professorship Programme
and is supported by an unrestricted grant from GE Healthcare Medical Diagnostics, China.
Ten European leading medical imaging experts, assigned by
the European School of Radiology, will, during 2013, visit
ten Chinese teaching hospitals, selected by the Chinese
Society of Radiology. Their task will be to promote highend academic communication and have discussions with
Chinese radiologists.
With the development of time, medical imaging has become
the most important measure of clinical diagnostics and
minimally invasive therapy in modern medicine. This also
implies that the demands for our radiologists are constantly
on the increase. The ‘Radiological ELITE Project 2013’ is
a platform for high-end international imaging academic
communication and learning. It provides an opportunity
for Chinese colleagues to communicate academically with
European peers. We believe that such activity will encourage
the development of medical imaging in China, increase
knowledge and enhance friendship, provide Europe with
a better understanding of China and let China know more
about Europe. I hope that such meaningful activities may
continue for a long time and facilitate international scientific
cooperation and academic communication.
Let me, on behalf of Chinese imaging colleagues, express
a warm welcome to every European teacher. I wish
that this activity turn out a complete success! Finally, I
acknowledge the considerable support of GE Healthcare
Medical Diagnostics in assisting in the implementation of
this superb project.
