SYNTHETIC TECHNOLOGY FOR CLEANER AIR1
We will be glad to provide you with communication
materials to help you tell the public why you use
Shell GTL Fuel and to complement any other local
environmental or community efforts you might be
undertaking.
Your easy way to help
reduce local emissions
WHAT IS SHELL GTL FUEL?
GTL stands for Gas-To-Liquids, which means a liquid fuel made
from natural gas rather than crude oil. Transforming gas into liquid
fuel is a complex chemical process, which Shell has been enhancing
since 1970.
Shell GTL Fuel burns more cleanly and thus produces lower local emissions compared to conventional crude oil-derived diesel.

SHELL GTL FUEL –
CLEANER BURNING AND SAFE TO USE
Shell GTL Fuel burns more cleanly than conventional crude
oil-based diesel and thus produces fewer local emissions (nitrogen
oxides, NOx; sulphur oxides, SOx) and less visible black smoke (or
particulate matter/PM).

Reducing local emissions –
GOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS for YOUR BUSINESS
HOW Shell GTL Fuel WORKS and HOW YOU CAN BENEFIT
Property
As large urban areas become even bigger, air pollution from vehicle emissions grows too. A reduction in
your fleet’s local emissions can contribute to better air quality in the city or the area where you
operate. From an economic point of view, this is also an important goal:

HITACHI PUTS ITS TRUST IN SHELL GTL FUEL FOR FIRST FILL
Hitachi has one of the widest ranges of excavators in the world and supplies
wheel loaders, rigid dump trucks and other construction equipment for special
applications. After two successful trials, Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe
(HCME) has decided to use Shell GTL Fuel for first fill of its construction machinery
sold in Europe.

PUBLIC BUS SERVICE BVG (BERLIN, GERMANY)
BVG, operator of the public bus service in Germany’s capital of Berlin, tested Shell GTL Fuel in a two-day on-road local
emissions test. In addition to easy switch-over, reduced local emissions benefits were achieved:

NOx reduction: ~ 7 %
CO reduction: ~ 20 %
During the testing, a further reduction in local emissions (–8 % NOx,
–27 % CO), as well as a decrease in fuel consumption of –4.5 %
(versus +2.5 % without engine tuning), was achieved with engine tuning.
