Data-Rite Systems
Supporting Growth Through Technology
Who We Are
• A database driven web application
development company
• A Certified Microsoft Solutions Provider
• Established in 1995
• Beta testers for Microsoft Technologies
What We Do
•
•
•
•
Develop custom software solutions
Focus on database driven applications
Develop scalable n-tier solutions
Design browser based applications:
Internet, Intranet and Extranet
• Import and “cleanse” data from all
different platforms – mainframe,
AS/400, UNIX, xbase
Our Mission
To develop and implement technology
solutions customized for each client’s
business and to support a company’s
future growth and profitability.
How We Do It
• Our experience in developing missioncritical database applications ensures the
right technologies are applied properly to
each web development project we undertake
by:
• Spending “the right amount of time” analyzing
business requirements, business processes and
data.
• Beginning programming only after we understand
the whole picture.
• Employing clear cut analysis - not the dreaded
“analysis paralysis.”
Database Modeling
• For mid to large size projects we use a data
modeling tool to organize the database in a
logical structure.
• This confirms that we understand the
requirements before we begin programming.
• The house building analogy: After the house
construction is finished is not the time to
decide you need another room!
Why Browser Based?
• Any application that can be built using
“traditional software languages,” i.e., Visual
Basic, Microsoft Access, C++, FoxPro, can be
written as a browser based application.
What Else About
Browser Based?
• Virtually no software deployment - anyone
with a browser and access rights to the
application can use it.
• Application requires deployment on the web
server only.
• No More “DLL Hell”.
• Easier to expand access to regional offices
or the public.
• High performance, easy integration with
Windows NT environment.
Technology
• We Build 3-Tier Applications
• The Front End Tier
• What the end user sees.
• Where all the graphics, design and “bells and whistles” go.
• Designed in HTML, ASP, JavaScript, VBScript, XML.
• The Middle Tier (Component Object Model, or COM)
• “The “Rules Engine” – where all processing rules and
logic that drive the application are placed.
• By placing programming logic here, web server stress is
avoided.
• Biggest features of COM objects are reusability and
performance.
• Written in Visual Basic.
• The Back End Tier (Database)
• SQL Server 7.0.
Why Three Tier?
• Segregation of duties – each tier handles what
it does best.
• Each tier communicates easily with the others.
• Benchmarking by Microsoft shows that
separate tiers is the best way to build well
performing, scalable and robust systems.
• Allows technicians to work on what they do
best, without overlap.
Our Belief
• Once the application is implemented, you, the
end user, can handle it on your own.
• No dependence on your consultant for regular
maintenance.
• But we will still be there if you need additional
functionality.
• A happy client is an independent client!
