SCOPE
This specification covers the requirements for an 80mm x 60mm 7 lever straight
steel lock for private post boxes with two or four keys.

3.
REQUIREMENTS
3.1
DESCRIPTION
3.1.1 A 7 (seven) lever lock which shall be screwed onto a private post box
door into which the key, when inserted, shall function without
restriction.
3.1.2 When the lock is operated the bolt shall lock behind the box rebate
without resistance and the key shall be easily removable.
3.1.3 Provision shall be made to block off the back key hole to prevent, at
the discretion of the Post Office, use of the lock by the renter.
4.
CASING AND COVER PLATE
4.1 The cover plate shall be secured by not less than two M4 screws. Both cover
plate and screw heads shall be recessed to below the edge of the case, so that
when the lock is screwed tight onto a door, there shall be no tendency to crush
the lock mechanism, thus rendering it inoperative.
4.2 A suitable inspection hole for observing the action of the levers shall be
provided in the cover plate.

BOLT AND LEVER
5.1
The follower plate shall not be less than 2mm thick.
5.2
The springs shall be securely crimped in the levers.
5.3
Seven levers shall be provided in each lock and the combination system
shall be capable of providing at least 10,000 different combinations. Not
more than two step heights shall be duplicated in a lock.
KEYS
Two keys for Catalogue No. 100160 and four keys for Catalogue No. 100161 shall
be provided with each lock and shall be removable only in the locked position.
After the bit of the key has been cut, all burrs and sharp edges shall be removed by
wire-brushing or another suitable process. All manufactured keys shall have a
shank diameter which falls within the range of 4,3mm and 4,8mm.
7.
BACK PLATE LOCKING DEVICE
The locking device shall be securely riveted to the case and shall be friction tight in
order to remain in the “open” position.
8.
LOCKING MECHANISM
All springs on the levers shall be set at right angles to their crimping point, so as to
maintain a constant firm action when the lock is operated. When the key is
inserted, there shall be adequate clearance between the levers and the bit of the
key. The travel of the gate-post shall not be impeded by levers that have not been
fully operated by the key action.
9.
IDENTIFICATION MARK
Each lock shall have stamped on its case the following markings:

b.
The applicable catalogue No. (100160 or 100161) - see para. 6.
BATCH NUMBER
The batch number shall be indicated on the back plate on a self-adhesive label.

PACKAGING
Fifty (50) locks per container Locks shall be securely packed in corrugated board
containers,
