Conversations in Clay: Classical and Contemporary Ceramics
July 15 to August 14, 2016
We each speak our own language when it comes to working in clay. From wheel throwing to hand
building, each artist has a visual vocabulary that emanates differently from one to another. We pull,
push, poke, wedge, throw, manipulate and work the clay with our own unique touch. This is how we
communicate in clay.
Through this communication we express and question human emotions, views, and ideas; while
reinterpreting traditional techniques, concepts, and forms. As artists, we hope to achieve a connection
between our work and the audience.
This exhibit portrays a selection of ceramics that embodies many styles and techniques that are used
by the artists from AMOCA Ceramics Studio located in beautiful, downtown Pomona, CA.
Participating Artists:
Heidi Kreitchet, Bobby Free, Cj Jilek, Mary Beierle, Jeein Ahn, Kristen Erickson, Sue Malloy, Anna
Nahanni, Stan Klausner, Michael Garcia, Kim Lingo. Kim Hau, Adrian Sandstrom, Wendy Thoreson,
Gary Lett, Jillian O'Dwyer

En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the
open air,” and refers to the act of painting outdoors
