1st Open Day of the university: “Jan-Jan JNU(जन-जनजेएनयू)” The Jawaharlal Nehru University is well known for its academic and research excellence in different areas of physical and social sciences. The university has made outstanding contributions to the society both in humanities and sciences through its renowned academicians and researchers. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has rated JNU as the number one university among all the central universities. JNU with its strong emphasis on social commitment would like to highlight and share these significant achievements of the university with public, in particular, the school children. In this regard, it is decided to organize the 1st Open Day of the university “Jan-Jan JNU(जनजनजेएनयू)” on Monday, November 21st, 2016 from 10 am to 3 pm in the university campus. The primary objective of the event is to show case JNU contributions to the school children which can serve as a source of inspiration for carrying out their career as future researchers, academicians and engines of social change. This will also provide an opportunity to the young students to have personal interactions with the JNU faculty and research students to discuss about career prospects through higher education. Thousands of children from different schools of Delhi are expected to participate in the event. Open Day information will be circulated through posters to various schools in the nearby areas (radius of 15 kms) taking into consideration that different types of public and government schools get the opportunity to represent and bring their children to JNU. A web site will also be developed for this event. The web site address and some important contact numbers will be printed on the posters. The schools are required to register through the web site upto a deadline. On the day of the event, all the school buses will be allowed to enter through the East Gate of JNU and will be parkedon the roads around the Convention Centre.The safety, security and transport of all the participating children will be the sole responsibility of the respective school. However, JNU will make adequate security arrangements on the campus. Common citizens who are interested to visit JNU on the open day are also welcome and will be allowed as a visitor through the North Gate only. The main exhibition area will be around the Convention Center including the corridors and the lawns. However, childrencan also visit different academic and research units (i.e. Schools and Centers) located on the circular road. Various facets of JNU contributions will be exhibited through stalls, posters and movies. Each academic unit will showcase their activity by setting up stalls and posters with the help of faculty and student volunteers. The JNU movie will be shown in the main Hall of the Convention Center. Student volunteers from JNU will be provided certificates of appreciation. Selected eminent scientists and academicians will also be invited in the event. Selected public sector organizations such as DST, DBT, CSIR, MOES, ONGC, IOC etc. will be invited for seeking the possibility of co-sponsoring the event. *****
