THE WEATHER
When to Go
The dry season typically is November
to April when skies are blue, the sea
is clear and diving at its best!
With temperatures rarely dipping below 25oC
(77oF), any time of year is a good time to visit
beautiful Phu Quoc. There are however some
differences in the weather throughout the
year, most noticeably between the wet and
dry seasons.
Dry season in Phu Quoc is typically November through
to April, when the skies are blue, the sea on the west
coast is very calm and diving is at its best. We often get
high temperatures and humidity leading up to the wet
season in March, April and in to May.
The wet season usually starts towards the end of April
to early May and continues to October, sometimes
even into November. Temperatures in the rainy
season are much milder which makes Phu Quoc more
comfortable for some people, but the rain can be
heavy – particularly towards the end of the season in
October, when you can expect a heavy downpour every
other day. At this time, the good weather is usually in
the mornings and ideal for touring or relaxation on
the beach. The northern interior, with its waterfalls
and rich vegetation, is best visited in the wet season.
The rivers are at their peak and the forests are lush and
green – a stark difference from the dry season.
Note the wet season also has an effect on the sea
around the island. On the east coast, particularly Sao
and Kem beaches, the sea is often calmer and clearer
whilst the west coast can be quite rough, in contrast in
the dry season the west coast is at its best.
Of course, all this being said, the weather should never
totally dictate when you visit Phu Quoc.

Phú Quốc
Mùa du lịch lý tưởng nhất là từ tháng 11 đến
tháng 04 hàng năm với thời tiết nắng ấm,
biển xanh yên bình rất thuận lợi cho các hoạt
động vui chơi khám phá các vùng biển.
Nhiệt độ ở Phú Quốc quanh năm thường dao động ở
mức 25 độ C vì vậy quý khách có thể tham quan Phú
Quốc bất cứ thời điểm nào trong năm. Tuy nhiên, quý
khách nên chú ý vài điểm khác biệt giữa mùa khô và
mùa mưa khi đến khám phá hòn đảo này.
Mùa khô ở Phú Quốc thường bắt đầu từ tháng 11 đến
tháng 4, bầu trời trong xanh, các bãi biển ở khu vực
phía Tây của đảo rất yên bình. Tuy nhiên, vào tháng 3,
tháng 4 nhiệt độ sẽ tăng cao dần để chuyển sang mùa
mưa.
Mùa mưa thường bắt đầu vào cuối tháng 04 hoặc đầu
tháng 05 và kéo dài đến tháng 10 hoặc sang tháng 11.
Nhiệt độ không quá cao nhưng thường có những cơn
mưa nặng hạt vào tháng 09 và tháng 10, thỉnh thoảng
có những trận mưa rất lớn trong ngày. Trong thời gian
này, buổi sáng là thời gian lý tưởng nhất cho các hoạt
động vui chơi trên bãi biễn.
Khu vực phía Bắc đảo với các thác nước, hệ thực vật
rừng nguyên sinh vô cùng phong phú là điểm đến
tuyệt vời để khám phá vào mùa mưa. Các con sông
ngập tràn nước, rừng cây xanh non, khác biệt hoàn
toàn so với mùa khô hạn.
Mùa mưa cũng có tác động đến các vùng biển xung
quanh đảo. Các bãi biển ở Đông đảo như Bãi Kem hay
Bãi Sao thường yên bình, lặng sóng. Trong khi đó, các
bãi biển ở khu vực phía Tây đảo thường có sóng lớn và
nhiều lúc nguy hiểm để tắm hay lặn biển.

THE LIE OF THE LAND
Orientation
Explore from north to south
This verdant Island is surrounded by a number
of smaller islands mainly to the south and
has some of the most beautiful beaches in
Vietnam
Phu Quoc sits in the Gulf of Thailand around 45km
from the town of Ha Tien on the Vietnamese mainland,
measuring approx. 48 km from north to south, and 19
km east to west, the island packs a lot in to a small
space.
Running along the west coast is the popular Long
Beach, home to many resorts and restaurants and the
perfect spot to catch the wonderful Phu Quoc sunset.
As the beach runs for almost half the length of the
island, you shouldn’t struggle to find a quiet spot.
Whilst Long Beach dominates the west coast, also in
the north the National Park and other rural areas the
key attractions. Hiking trails, waterfalls and wildlife
await those with a strong sense of adventure.
Phu Quoc with over 20 smaller islands to the south
make for a great day out with fishing and snorkeling
trips being very popular excursions to the remote
southern island beaches.
Phu Quoc main town is Duong Dong, located on the
west coast about half way up the island. This is a
typical Vietnamese town – bustling morning markets,
quiet lunchtimes and busy again in early evening as
the locals finish their day and head out for fun in the
cooler hours. Duong Dong has a great selection of bars,
cafes and restaurants as well as supermarkets, shops
and services for pretty much every eventuality.
Historically, the local population now well over 100,000
has been employed largely in the fishing industry.
However, as the island’s popularity continues to soar,
tourism has become a main source of employment for
the islanders.
If you’re moving around the island it’s useful to get
your bearings, the airport is towards the southern end
of Phu Quoc, about a 20 minute drive south of Duong
Dong town. There’s essentially one main road running
the length of the island which splits in the north to take
you to the northwestern and northeastern corners.
There are of course smaller roads and lanes, and more
are being added all the time as the island infrastructure
improves. Some back roads however are often un
surfaced and may not be suitable for motorbikes or
bicycles, particularly in the wet season pay attention.
Whatever road you take though, and however you take
it, you’ll find plenty of quiet spots to explore – often
with just a handful of villagers for company.
That’s the beauty of Phu Quoc – so much variety in
such a small space.

Tổng quan về đảo Phú Quốc
Phú Quốc là một quần đảo xinh đẹp, xung quanh có khoảng 22 đảo nhỏ, tập trung ở Nam Đảo, là
nơi có nhiều bãi biển và hải sản tuyệt vời nhất VN, nơi bạn có thể khám phá đại dương thông qua
các hoạt động như câu cá, lặn ngắm san hô.
Đảo ngọc Phú Quốc nằm hoàn toàn trong vịnh Thái
Lan, cách TP. Hà Tiên 45km. Chiều dài của đảo khoảng
45km, chiều rộng khoảng 20km từ Đông sang Tây.
Chạy dài khu vực phía Tây đảo là Bãi Trường, nơi tập
trung dày đặc resort, khách sạn, villa là địa điểm vô
cùng lý tưởng để ngắm hoàng hôn.
So với khu vực phía Tây tập trung nhiều bãi biển, khu
vực phía Bắc lại thu hút với rừng nguyên sinh bạt ngàn
và hệ sinh thái nông nghiệp của người dân địa phương.
Đến đây bạn sẽ khám phá rừng nguyên sinh với thiên
nhiên hoang sơ cùng các thác nước trắng xóa vào mùa
mưa.
Thủ phủ chính của đảo là thị trấn Dương Đông, nằm
phía Tây bờ biển, tọa lạc gần như ở trung tâm đảo. Đây
được xem là nơi nhộn nhịp nhất trên đảo với các phiên
chợ chật kín người vào sáng sớm và chiều tối. Dương
Đông cũng là nơi tập trung nhiều nhất các quán bar, cà
phê, nhà hàng, cửa hàng mua sắm phục vụ bất cứ nhu
cầu nào của du khách và người dân địa phương.
Cư dân sống trên đảo có hơn 100,000 người, phần
lớn là tham gia đánh bắt và chế biến hải sản tại địa
phương. Tuy nhiên, dân cư trên đảo đang gia tăng
nhanh chóng do du lịch phát triển và người dân địa
phương ngày càng tham gia vào lĩnh vực du lịch, dịch
vụ nhiều hơn.
Để dễ dàng di chuyển trên đảo, bạn nên chú ý đến
phương hướng. Sân bay quốc tế nằm ở phía Nam đảo,
cách Dương Đông khoảng 20 phút lái xe. Vì vậy, nếu
đi về Nam đảo bạn đi theo hướng này. Còn đi lên Bắc
đảo, bạn có thể đi theo một trong 2 trục đường chính
từ thị trấn Dương Đông. Ngoài ra, phía Bắc còn có một
trục đường chạy từ Đông sang Tây và các con đường
nhánh nhỏ, giúp bạn khám phá từng ngóc ngách của
khu vực phía Bắc. Hệ thống hạ tầng giao thông đang
được chính quyền nổ lực hoàn thiện để kết nối thêm
nhiều điểm đến mới. Lưu ý vào mùa mưa, các đường
đất đỏ thường khó đi vì vậy bạn phải cẩn thận khi khám
phá bằng xe gắn máy hoặc xe đạp. Bất cứ cung đường
nào hay phương tiện gì, bạn cũng sẽ có rất nhiều điều
để khám phá ở quần đảo thiên đường này.

FINDING YOUR WAY
Getting around
the Island
Explore at your own pace
In and around the main town of Duong
Dong, you can get about very easily on foot.
Everything is close to hand with shops,
restaurants and bars all within short strolling
distance of each other.
If you’re looking to head further afield then bicycles are
a great option. Away from the busier roads you’ll find
you can ride at a leisurely pace and take in the quiet
streets, back roads and beaches whilst getting some
mild exercise.
For longer distances, motorbikes are a convenient and
a highly affordable way to experience Phu Quoc. It’s a
great experience to be independent and visit parts of
the island most people rarely get to see while feeling
the wind in your hair.
Phu Quoc’s small size and relatively quiet roads make
it ideal for exploring by motorbike. With a map and a
tank of petrol you’ll be able to tour the country lanes
and quiet beaches that the tour groups can’t get to.
Most hotels and guesthouses will help organize a
motorbike for you. Just give them enough time –
usually only a few hours – and motorbikes can be
delivered to where you are staying.
You can expect to pay between 120,000vnd and
200,000vnd per day, depending on season and style
of scooter/motorbike.

The best place to rent a taxi or motorbike is
normally through your Hotel or Resort
If you’re in a small group, or would just like to sit back
and let some else do the driving, then taxis can be
rented by the day or half day. Most taxis are 7-seaters
so are perfect for families who want to get out and hit
some remote beaches. We suggest booking at least a
few hours in advance to be sure of getting a vehicle at
the time you want.

Remember Safety comes first:
Whether you’re cycling or riding a motorbike
please be alert at all times. Don’t be fooled by
the slower pace of life on Phu Quoc, vehicles
can sometimes be travelling fast. ‘Right of Way’
is a very loose term in Vietnam – so look out
for vehicles pulling out in front of you or from
anywhere for that matter!
• Make sure that you have a valid license,
you must be riding legally to be covered by
insurance!
• Check your insurance. If the bike is bigger
than 50cc you may not be covered in case of
an accident.
• Helmets are to be worn at all times and be
careful of cheap flimsy looking ones, when
you need them they need to save you!
• Its an obvious one but don’t speed or drink
and ride, biggest causes of accidents are
speed and alcohol
• Cover up! You catch the sun a lot quicker than
you think on a bike
• Avoid riding at night – street (and some
vehicle) lighting is often inadequate and
there are plenty of dogs wandering about
Always be alert and be ready to expect the
unexpected!
VÒNG QUANH KHÁM PHÁ ĐẢO
Bạn có thể dễ dàng tản bộ dạo quanh thị trấn Dương Đông, hầu hết các điểm tham quan, cửa
hàng, quán cà phê, nhà hàng và quán bar đều nằm gần nhau.
Nếu bạn muốn đi xa hơn một chút thì xe đạp sẽ là
một chọn lựa tuyệt vời. Cách xa những con phố nhộn
nhịp, bạn có thể vừa thong thả đạp xe và hòa mình vào
những con đường, những bãi biển xa xa tĩnh lặng, vừa
có một bài thể dục nhẹ nhàng.
Xa hơn nữa, xe gắn máy là phương tiện tiện lợi và
không quá tốn kém để khám phá Phú Quốc. Tự do ghé
thăm những điểm ít người đặt chân đến trên đảo và
cảm nhận những làn gió mát lành lùa vào tóc bạn đó
thực sự là một trải nghiệm rất tuyệt vời.
Nếu bạn đi theo từng nhóm nhỏ, hoặc muốn ngồi phía
sau và để ai đó cầm lái thì bạn có thể thuê taxi trong
vòng một ngày hay nửa ngày. Hầu hết các chiếc taxi 7
chỗ rất phù hợp cho các gia đình muốn ra ngoài và tới
những bãi biển xa xôi. Khách sạn bạn ở có thể giúp bạn
gọi đặt xe. Chúng tôi khuyên bạn nên đặt trước vài giờ
đồng hồ để khởi hành đúng giờ như ý muốn.
Hãy ghi nhớ rằng an toàn là trên hết:
Dù là đi xe đạp hay xe gắn máy xin hãy luôn cẩn
trọng. Đừng để nhịp sống chậm ở Phú Quốc đánh lừa
bạn, thỉnh thoảng các phương tiện đi lại di chuyển
rất nhanh. Vì vậy nên hãy thận trọng đối với những
phương tiện ở phía trước hoặc ở bất kì đâu!
Xe gắn máy
Phú Quốc là hòn đảo nhỏ và những con đường khá yên
tĩnh khiến xe gắn máy trở thành phương tiện lí tưởng
để khám phá. Với bản đồ của chúng tôi trong tay và
một xe gắn máy đầy xăng, bạn sẽ có thể tham quan
những miền quê và bãi biển êm đềm nơi mà những
đoàn khách tham quan lớn khó có thể đến được. Hầu
hết các khách sạn và nhà nghỉ sẽ giúp bạn thuê xe gắn
máy. Chỉ cần cho họ đủ thời gian – thường là một vài
giờ - và những chiếc xe gắn máy sẽ được giao tới bất cứ
nơi nào bạn lưu trú.
Tùy vào mùa hoặc kiểu xe (xe số hoặc tay ga) mà giá
thuê xe một ngày có thể dao động từ 120,000 đến
200,000 đồng.
Xin hãy lái xe có trách nhiệm và chú ý
những lời khuyên quan trọng sau:
• Luôn mang theo bằng lái xe và giấy tờ xe.
• Kiểm tra giấy tờ bảo hiểm của người và xe.
• Bạn phải luôn đội mũ bảo hiểm và nên nhớ
đừng dùng những loại đẹp mắt, rẻ tiền. Khi
có sự cố chúng khó có thể cứu bạn!
• Hãy mặc quần áo kỹ để bảo vệ bạn khi lái
xe dưới trời nắng nóng. Luôn nhớ rằng đừng
bao giờ phóng xe nhanh hay uống rượu bia
khi lái xe, nguyên nhân chủ yếu gây tai nạn
giao thông dẫn đến chết người là do bia rượu
và chạy quá tốc độ.
• Hạn chế lái xe vào ban đêm – nhiều khu vực
không có đèn đường vì vậy luôn cảnh giác
cao độ với chó và bò thường lang thang khắp
nơi trên đảo.
Hãy luôn cảnh giác và sẵn sàng cho những điều
không lường trước được!

TRANSPORTATION

Finding your way to our Island
Paradise
You can reach Phu Quoc by sea or air, obviously
air is quicker but if you’re travelling through
the Mekong Delta then hopping on a ferry at
Rach Gia or Ha Tien is your best bet.
By Air
The International airport which opened in 2012 means
visitors are now able to fly directly to Phu Quoc on
International flights though at the time of writing these
were still very limited with the Singapore route being
temporarily cancelled leaving only a route via Siem
Riep in Cambodia as the only direct fly in alternative.
We really hope that in years to come International
direct flights will be increased so that visitors can take
advantage of the free 30 day visa on arrival currently
available, direct flights from China start January 2016.
International Flights
Vietnam Airlines are currently only operating direct
flights to Phu Quoc from Siem Reap, Cambodia.
At time of going to press schedules are
three flights a week – Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday
(flying time 1 hour)
Domestic Flights
Currently three airlines operate domestic flights to
Phu Quoc – Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and Jetstar.
Tickets are available at travel agencies all over
Vietnam as well as booking online of course, you can
reach Phu Quoc from these cities, note the following
prices are a guide only:

By Sea
Ferries arrive/leave from Bai Vong in the south east
of Phu Quoc Island, on arrival motorbike taxis and
minibuses will always be on hand to take you on to
your final destination.
Additional ferries operate from/to Ha Tien during peak
months and holiday periods (Nov – Feb)

Hàng ngày có hàng chục chuyến bay nội địa từ Hà Nội, TP.HCM, Cần
Thơ đến Phú Quốc. Vì vậy, bạn sẽ dễ dàng bay đến Phú Quốc với rất
nhiều khung giờ trong ngày. Các chuyến bay quốc tế hiện còn hạn
chế. Hy vọng trong thời gian tới sẽ có thêm nhiều đường bay quốc tế
được mở trực tiếp đến Phú Quốc để tận dụng lợi thế của chính sách
miễn thị thực 30 ngày dành cho du khách.
Chuyến bay quốc tế
Hiện tại Vietnam Airlines đang khai thác đường bay trực tiếp Phú
Quốc – Siem Reap (Cam-pu-chia). Lịch bay là 3 chuyến/tuần vào thứ
3, thứ 5 và Chủ Nhật với thời gian bay khoảng một tiếng. Theo công
bố, Phú Quốc sẽ có các chuyến bay trực tiếp từ Hàn Quốc và Trung
Quốc trong thời điểm cuối năm 2015 và đầu năm 2016.
Chuyến bay nội địa
Hiện có 03 hãng khai thác chuyến bay nội địa đến Phú Quốc gồm
Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air và Jetstar. Bạn có thể đặt vé qua các đại
lý hoặc đặt chỗ qua mạng.

Đường biển
Nếu đi bằng đường bộ, bạn đến TP. Rạch Giá hoặc Hà Tiên rồi bắt tàu
qua đảo Phú Quốc. Tuy nhiên, đi từ Rạch Giá qua đảo sẽ mất nhiều
thời gian hơn thường là 2h45 phút so với 1h15 phút nếu đi từ Hà Tiên.
Ngoài Supperdong, hãng tàu hiện đại nhất với đội tàu cao tốc lên đến
10 chiếc có sức chứa từ 170 đến 300 hành khách, còn có một số nhà
vận chuyển khác có đội tàu cao tốc nhỏ hơn như Ngọc Thành, Lâm Đại
Hải cũng vận chuyển khách ra Phú Quốc. Tất cả các chuyến tàu cao tốc
đều cập bến ở Bãi Vòng, khu vực phía Đông Nam đảo. Từ Bãi Vòng bạn
có thể bắt xe bus, taxi hay xe ôm để đi các địa điểm khác.

The Beaches
A quick reference guide to the
Islands best beaches
You may well be staying on a stunning beach
at your resort or hotel but, with hundreds of
kilometers of coastline waiting to be explored,
Phu Quoc’s crying out for some sand-based
discovery!
Phu Quoc not only has some of the best
beaches in Vietnam but is one of the only
places that faces west for magnificent sunset
views. Generally, the better beaches are to be
found on the west and southeastern coasts.
Some are a little harder to get to than others
but all of them are worth visiting, whether it’s
perfect warm clear water for swimming and
snorkeling, small local seafood or BBQ joints or
just the simple pleasures of a deserted white
sand beach.
Here is our top suggestions to help make the most out
of your beach stays whilst in Phu Quoc.
Long Beach
As the name suggests this is the longest beach and is
situated on the west side of the island where most of
the Hotels and Resorts are located. You will find some
parts totally deserted and to yourself, while in the main
areas it can be busy with plenty of eating & drinking
options and a great place to party the night away.

Sao Beach
A real gem located in the southeast corner of the island,
Sao Beach is Phu Quoc’s most beautiful beach possibly
one of the best beaches in Vietnam. Here you can dine
on fresh seafood on the fine white sands of the beach
or take a dip in the clear turquoise waters. We’re not
sure how long Sao Beach will remain unspoilt, so visit
now while it’s still rather untouched!
Cua Can Beach
Located on the north west coast 10km from Duong
Dong town and close to Cua Can village lies this quiet
deserted beach with a beautiful river estuary. You will
rarely see a soul here!
An Thoi Islands
Just 30 minutes by boat off the southern tip of Phu
Quoc is the An Thoi archipelago of more than 20 islands
brimming with scenic deserted beaches, colorful coral
reefs and colonies of diverse fish species and home to
a coral fish marine protection area. Make sure you get
to Fingernail Island at the southern end with the boat
anchored swim in to its gorgeous beach and feel like
Robinson Crusoe for the day!
Ong Lang Beach
A beautiful long stretch of beach only 6km from Duong
Dong town, protected from the currents and waves at
one end by a rocky point. This is a great beach to visit
and is often deserted particularly during the week with
some great eating drinking options.
Ganh Dau Beach
On the top northwest side of the island lies the sleepy
area of Ganh Dau. Just before the village take a left
where you’ll find this small quiet beach with crystal
clear waters to cool off in and great views of the
southern Cambodian coastline.
Rach Vem Beach
Right at the top of the Island is this gorgeous isolated
beach with awesome views accross the water, don’t
expect too much going on this is a local area!
Vung Bau Beach
Located on the northwest coast just past Cua Can
village lies this beautiful half moon bay and beach.
A great choice for picnicking, swimming or snorkeling
and you can even take a small boat or kayak out to
nearby Fingernail Island where there is some lovely
corals and fish life to see.
Kem Beach
In the southeast corner of Phu Quoc and close to Sao
Beach, this is one of the most beautiful beaches on the
island. It’s not the easiest beach to get to but the effort
is well worth it, though at the time of writing it’s a bit
messy with construction of the new Marriott Hotel.
Remember: Leave valuables safely at your hotel when visiting isolated beaches. If you’re travelling on your
own it’s advisable to let someone at your hotel know where you’re going and its handy to always keep the
hotels business card with you to easily find your way back!

Việt Nam mà còn là một trong những điểm có
hướng Tây với cảnh hoàng hôn tuyệt đẹp. Nhìn
chung, các bãi biển đẹp nhất đều nằm ở phía
Tây và Đông Nam. Một vài điểm sẽ gây chút khó
khăn để tìm đến nhưng rất đáng ghé thăm vì
nước biển sạch và ấm áp thích hợp cho hoạt
động bơi lội, lặn biển hoặc thưởng thức hải sản,
tiệc nướng hay chỉ đơn giản là vui chơi trên bãi
biển cát trắng hoang sơ.
Tại khách sạn hay resort bạn ở có thể có bãi biển thơ
mộng, nhưng với đường bờ biển dài hàng trăm kí-lômét, Phú Quốc đang mời gọi và chờ đợi chuyến hành
trình khám phá biển của bạn! Dưới đây là những gợi ý
giúp bạn có những trải nghiệm tuyệt nhất từ các bãi
biển ở Phú Quốc:
Bãi Trường
Thuộc phía Tây của đảo và giống với tên gọi đây là bãi
biển dài nhất, đồng lời là nơi có nhiều khách sạn và
resort nhất. Nếu chịu khám phá, bạn sẽ có thể tìm cho
mình một nơi vắng vẻ, trong khi đó khu vực trung tâm
có thể rất nhộn nhịp với vô số các lựa chọn về ăn uống.
Đây cũng là địa điểm thích hợp dành cho những bữa
tiệc liên hoan.

Bãi Sao
Thật sự là viên ngọc quý nằm ở phía Đông Nam của
đảo. Bãi Sao là bãi biển đẹp nhất của Phú Quốc và là
một trong những bãi biển đẹp nhất Việt Nam. Tại đây,
bạn có thể thưởng thức những món hải sản tươi ngon
gần cạnh bãi cát trắng mịn hoặc bơi lặn trong làn nước
biển xanh lam trong vắt. Không biết rồi Bãi Sao sẽ giữ
được vẻ hoang sơ đến khi nào, vậy nên hãy ghé thăm
nơi này ngay khi vẻ đẹp của nó còn khá nguyên vẹn.
Bãi Cửa Cạn
Đâ là bãi biển hoang sơ tĩnh lặng với vùng cửa sông
trù phú và xinh đẹp, cách thị trấn Dường Đông khoảng
10km, thuộc xã Cửa Cạn.
Quần đảo An Thới
Chỉ cách mũi phía Nam An Thới khoảng 30 phút đi
thuyền là cụm đảo Hòn Thơm với hơn 20 hòn đảo nhỏ.
Tại đây có nhiều bãi biển hoang sơ thơ mộng, những
rặng san hô nhiều màu sắc, đa dạng các loài cá, là khu
vực bảo tồn sinh thái biển thuộc Vườn Quốc gia Phú
Quốc. Hãy đến đây khám phá từng ngóc ngách của các
hòn đảo hoang sơ này, neo thuyền lại và bơi ra vùng
biển tuyệt vời này, bạn sẽ có một ngày trải nghiệm như
Robinson trên đảo hoang khi xưa!
Bãi Ông Lang
Nằm cách thị trấn Dương Đông khoảng 6km. Bãi biển
xinh đẹp này thường vắng khách đặc biệt vào các ngày
trong tuần và là địa điểm lí tưởng để bạn ghé thăm.
Bãi mũi Gành Dầu
Phía cực Bắc của đảo là vùng biển Gành Dầu thơ mộng.
Trước khi tới xã Gành Dầu, chỉ cần rẽ trái bạn sẽ thấy
một bãi biển nhỏ, nước trong như pha lê và có thể nhìn
về phía Nam vùng duyên hải của nước bạn Campuchia.
Bãi Vũng Bầu
Điểm này là lựa chọn tuyệt vời dành cho các hoạt dã
ngoại, bơi lội và lặn biển, đồng thời bạn có thể bơi
thuyền nhỏ hoặc thuyền kayak tới hòn Móng Tay nơi
có nhiều loài san hô và cá tuyệt đẹp.
Bãi Kem
Nằm ở phía Đông Nam của đảo và gần Bãi Sao, đây
cũng là một trong những bãi biển đẹp nhất của đảo.
Đường đến bãi biển này không dễ tìm nhưng rất đáng
để mọi người khám phá. Bạn có thể đến đây bằng cách
đi từ phía Nam của bãi Sao hoặc đi từ đường cái hướng
về An Thới, gần nhà tù Phú Quốc.
Bãi Rạch Vẹm
Nằm ở đỉnh Bắc đảo, bãi biển này hoang sơ này có cảnh
quang tuyệt đẹp. Tuy nhiên, các dịch vụ phục vụ du lịch
địa phương vẫn chưa phát triển nhiều.

A local legend who used to play
drums in a wedding band and
these days incredibly carts as much as 2 to
3 tonnes of ice daily by Honda on his own!
Where do you live, how long have you been here?
I live in Duong Dong town after moving here from Vinh
Long in the Mekong Delta over 24 Years ago.
Are you married and do you have children?
Yes I’ve been happily married to Tuyet for 24 years and
we have 4 children all aged between 12 and 24.
What do you do here for work or business?
We work together supplying ice to businesses on the
island and also run a family restaurant on Tran Hung
Dao St near Saigon Phu Quoc Resort.
What’s the best seafood here, where can we find it?
Phu Quoc has plenty of great seafood, the Calamari and
Bbq scallops with peanuts are very good at our place!
Tell us your favourite place on or around the Island?
My favorite places are Tranh and Da Ban streams, I love
to to go with friends taking a portable BBQ and cool
drinks lazing the day away in the freshwater.
What’s your top 3 “things to do” for visitors to do?
Sao beach is such a beautiful place while exploring
the Northern forests is also highly recommended and
of course a day out on a boat trip is not to be missed.
Visitors of which nationality do you especially like
to meet?
I get along well with the Canadians and Australians,
but everybody comes here to relax so all good.

visit in the future and why?
Canada is a place I would love to visit, it looks very
different and has lots of forest with beautiful scenery.

Suối Tranh và suối Đá Bàn là những địa điểm yêu thích
của tôi. Tôi thích đến đó với bạn bè, thưởng thức cá

kết thúc một ngày bằng việc tắm trong dòng suối mát.

White sand experience of Sao beach
Perhaps one of the best beaches in Vietnam, this
place still boasts a fairly basic existence and is an
essential trip when visiting, enjoy fresh seafood,
swim or just laze the day away; this is the place to
do it now before it’s developed!

A day out Diving or Snorkeling the reefs
Though the best time of the year is generally from
November to April, anytime when the sun is out and
the sea is calm is a great time to hit the water to
enjoy the spectacular marine life.

Visit the famous Cao Dai temple of Phu Quoc
The foundation of Cao Dai religion was right here in
Phu Quoc, it was here that reputedly the third eye
was envisioned! This beautiful temple was only
built in 2008 and using monies donated; it is well
worth a visit to enjoy the spectacular architecture,
paintings and tranquility it offers.
Cool off in Mountain Waterfalls
The two main places to visit are Suoi Da Ban (north
of Duong Dong) and Suoi Tranh (on the way to

Forest walk in the National Park
Nature lovers should head to this easily accessible
forest walk about 5km east of Ganh Dau village.
Look for a national park sign on the right hand side
of the road and you’ll find a path entrance to the
forest and walking for about 1km.

Take in the hustle and bustle of the town
market
In the center of town beside the river Duong Dong
is the main town market, this is a great place to
experience daily life of the locals. Best visited in the
cool morning hours around 7am when its teeming
with life and an explosion of freshness from the
array of seafood just in from the boat!

Experience a Pepper farm
Phu Quoc pepper is amongst the world’s finest so
a farm visit is highly recommended to see how its
grown and processed. While you are there stock up
on some fresh pepper and impress friends back
home with new exotic flavors!

Sunrise at Su Muong Pagoda
Though Sunrise is the best time, anytime really is
a good time to visit this old Mountain Pagoda. For
a real special visit go to the back of the property
to the right hand side of the existing Pagoda
following the path up to the oldest pagoda, now
go up to the first level for some prayer and enjoy
the spectacular valley views below!

Bãi Sao cát trắng
Đây có lẽ là một trong những bãi biển đẹp nhất

vào, tắm biển hay đơn giản là có một ngày thư giãn

Lặn ngắm san hô
Từ tháng 11 đến tháng 4, bất kì lúc nào khi có mặt trời
và biển lặng sóng là lúc thích hợp nhất để trầm mình

Tham quan thánh thất đạo Cao Đài Dương Đông
Thánh thất này được xây mới vào năm 2008 bằng
tiền quyên góp của tín đồ và các nhà hảo tâm địa
phương. Với kiến trúc độc đáo và sự yên bình nơi đây,
ngôi thánh thất là nơi rất đáng để ghé thăm.

Khám phá các thác nước
Hai nơi chính để tham quan là suối Đá Bàn (cách thị
trấn Dương Đông vài km theo hướng Bắc) và suối
Tranh (trên đường tới Hàm Ninh khi đi từ Dương
Đông). Dù thời điểm thích hợp nhất để tắm suối là
từ tháng 5 đến tháng 9, nhưng bạn có thể tổ chức dã
ngoại hoặc đi dạo qua khu rừng bất cứ lúc nào nếu
thời tiết đẹp.

Đi bộ trong rừng
Những ai yêu thiên nhiên hãy đến khám phá rừng
nguyên sinh trên đảo. Đi theo bảng chỉ dẫn đến Vườn
quốc gia, chỉ khoảng 5km phía Đông xã Gành Dầu,
bạn sẽ tìm thấy lối vào rừng. Chỉ cần dạo bước một
cây số thôi cũng đủ để bạn thưởng thức hết vẻ đẹp
trinh nguyên của hệ sinh thái rừng nguyên sinh.

Hòa mình vào không khí nhộn nhịp của khu chợ
chính trên đảo – Chợ Dương Đông
Đây là điểm đến lí tưởng để bạn có thể hiểu hơn về
cuộc sống của người dân địa phương. Tuyệt nhất là
đến thăm chợ vào buổi sáng sớm, khoảng tầm 7 giờ
sáng, khi màu sắc của đủ loại hải sản từ các thuyền
đánh cá đầy ắp trở về và gánh lên chợ bán!

Ngắm bình minh tại chùa Sư Muông
Bình minh là thời điểm lí tưởng nhất nhưng bất cứ lúc
nào viếng thăm ngôi chùa trên núi cổ kính này. Sau
khi tham quan ngôi chính điện, hãy đi ra phía sau ra
theo hướng tay phải của ngôi chùa hiện tại, đi dần
lên ngôi chùa cũ từ bậc đầu tiên để cầu nguyện và
thưởng ngoạn cảnh đẹp vô cùng yên bình!

Lái xe mạo hiểm vòng quanh Đông Bắc đảo
Cung đường này chỉ thích hợp với những tay lái giàu
kinh nghiệm và những ai nỗ lực để có một chuyến đi
đáng nhớ đặc biệt là vào mùa khô. Hãy đi về hướng
Bãi Thơm rồi tiếp tục lái xe cặp bờ biển về Hàm Ninh
với một bên là biển cả mênh mông và một bên là dãi
núi Hàm Ninh sừng sững.

Do it yourself tours to discover your own
experiences around the Island
Explore the natural beauty of the North
West. Average Duration 5 hours
Starting out at Duong Đông, head north on the main
road about 10km towards Của Cần 1 . Once you pass
over the Của Cần bridge turn right for 2.5km and look
for a road on the right to the Phu Quoc Bee farm for an
organic experience! Now head back to the main road
that you came and go straight ahead when you see the
bridge on your left side. Though the road is a bit rough
right now you can hug the coast all the way up to Vung
Bau Beach, 2 stop on any isolated beaches along the
way, if you are hungry Bamboo Cottages can be a great
early lunch stop.
Continue just a bit further until the road ends then
bending right back towards the main road, now turn
left and head north to Ganh Dau 3 at the top of
the island. If you’re feeling hungry or thirsty up here
you’ll find lots of beach spots for grilled local seafood
and cold beers, at the very top on Ganh Dau beach we
highly recommend Gold Coast Resort for another tasty
relaxing lunch stop.
From Ganh Dau continue 5km further along the main
road inland until you arrive at the forest walk entrance
4 on the right side of the road, this area is part of
the Phu Quoc National Park. Stretch your legs with a
short stroll along the trail, keep a look out for the many
beautiful birds and listen for those ominous sounds of
the jungle! Now you have cooled down carry on the
same way through this lovely forest drive until you
reach the main north/south road in the islands middle,

from here take a right turn for an easy straight 20 min
run back to Duong Dong town.
Discover culture and gorgeous beaches in
the South East. Average Duration 6 hours
From Duong Đông, head south on 30/4 Street (past
the hospital) out of town, after 3 km on both sides
of the road you’ll see some interesting Pepper Farms
1 well worth a short stop. They are open to visitors
and be sure to purchase some world famous Phu Quoc
pepper to take home, they make for a great gift.
A further kilometer, on the right hand side of the road
up in the mountain side is the Su Muong pagoda
2 its great spending some serene time here and is
particularly beautiful in the early mornings.
From here turn right and continue back on the
main road towards Ham Ninh 3 to experience an
authentic fishing village on the east coast of the island
(If here between May and November, a stop at Tranh
stream on the way is recommended).
From Ham Ninh travel back
on the same road you
came on then turning left
at the big roundabout on
the main road to An Thoi, you
are now heading towards the
southern end of the island.
The best beach option down here is of course the
beautiful Sao Beach 4 Here you’ll be able to pull
up a chair or lounger on the sand, sit back and relax
with a cold beer, fresh coconut or whatever your drink
of choice.
For great food here we recommend Paradiso
restaurant, they offer fantastic seafood packages and is
an awesome spot to hangout, also checkout The Beach
House for some great tucker. Relax here as long as you
want but be sure to leave at least an hour before dark
and end your day by heading back towards Duong
Dong on the same main road that you came on.

Từ Gành Dầu quay đầu lại và tiếp tục trục đường chính
hướng về phía Đông khoảng 5km cho đến khi tới khu
vực tản bộ trong rừng tại rìa của Vườn Quốc gia 4 .
Với diện tích nhỏ, hệ thống đường xá khá hoàn chỉnh
giúp bạn có thể khám phá Phú Quốc bằng cả xe đạp, xe
máy hoặc taxi. Ở đây chúng tôi đưa ra những lịch trình
gợi ý, nhưng thật ra bạn có thể bắt đầu tại bất cứ nơi nào
bạn muốn trên đảo!
Lúc này hãy tiếp tục lộ trình qua khu rừng đáng yêu này
để trở lại trục đường cái Bắc Nam, từ đây sau khi rẽ phải
là bạn có thể lái xe thong thả trong vòng 20 phút để về
lại thị trấn Dương Đông.
Khám phá Tây Bắc đảo - khoảng 5 tiếng
Khám phá văn hóa và những bãi biển nên
thơ ở phía Đông Nam - khoảng 6 tiếng

Khởi hành từ Dương Đông, thẳng tiến về phía Bắc theo
trục đường chính chừng 10km hướng về Cửa Cạn 1 .
Khi vừa qua cầu, rẽ phải vào khoảng 2.5km để đến với
Trang trại ong Phú Quốc - Phú Quốc Bee Farm (hãy theo
bảng chỉ dẫn). Đây là điểm dừng mới trên hành trình
khám phá Bắc đảo. Một nơi đầy lí thú để bạn có
thể tìm hiểu về loài ong mật với không gian
xinh đẹp gần gũi với thiên nhiên, thưởng
thức các loại nước uống và món ăn
tươi ngon được pha chế với mật
ong và dĩ nhiên là bạn có thể mua
mật ong về làm quà.
Bây giờ, trở lại đường chính (cầu
Cửa Cạn), vượt qua ngã tư đi về
chợ Cửa Cạn bạn có thể đi trên con
đường bao quanh bờ biển dẫn tới
bãi Vũng Bầu 2 dù đường hơi
khó đi, nếu thấy đói hãy dừng tại
nhà hàng của Bamboo Cottage để có
một bữa trưa ngon tuyệt. Sau đó, trở lại
cung đường chính và rẽ trái hướng về phía
Gành Dầu 3 , vùng cực Bắc của đảo.
Nếu có nhu cầu ăn uống, bạn có thể tìm
thấy nhiều điểm hải sản nướng bia lạnh
dọc bãi biển như Gold Coast Resort là nơi
bạn có thể dừng cho bữa trưa ngon lành
nhất.
Hãy để xe bên ngoài, tản bộ theo đường mòn dẫn vào
rừng, ngắm nhìn những cây cổ thụ to lớn và lắng nghe
tiếng chim hót giữa rừng già!

Từ Dương Đông, đi về phía Nam qua khỏi bệnh viện
Phú Quốc rời thị trấn trên đường 30/4 sau đó đi khoảng
3 km, bạn sẽ nhìn thấy một số vườn tiêu 1 thú vị rất
đáng để tham quan dọc hai bên đường. Các vườn tiêu
mở cửa đón khách miễn phí và nếu muốn bạn có thể
mua thứ đặc sản nổi tiếng thế giới của Phú Quốc này
về làm quà.
Cách đó vài cây số, hướng núi bên tay phải bạn là chùa
Sư Muông 2 . Đây là một điểm đáng để tham quan
và đặc biệt phong cảnh nơi đây rất đẹp vào buổi sáng
sớm. Từ đây tiếp tục đi về đường cái để đến Hàm Ninh
3 bạn sẽ có trải nghiệm thực thụ ở một làng chài
nhỏ nằm ở phía Đông của hòn đảo (nếu đi vào thời
điểm giữa tháng 5 và tháng 11, bạn có thể dừng chân
tham quan suối Tranh trên đường tới Hàm Ninh)
Từ Hàm Ninh quay lại trục đường chính và rẽ trái hướng
đi thị trấn An Thới, giờ thì bạn đang tiến về phía Nam
đảo. Bãi Sao và Bãi Kem 4 là những lựa chọn không
thể bỏ lỡ trên cung đường này. Ở đây bạn có thể ngồi
trên ghế hoặc ngồi ngay trên cát, thư giãn với một cốc
bia lạnh, dừa tươi hoặc cà phê đá. Để thưởng thức các
món hải sản tuyệt nhất, bạn có thể đến với nhà hàng
Paradiso.
Hãy thư giãn thỏa thích miễn là bạn trở về khoảng
một giờ đồng hồ trước khi trời tối, sau đó trở lại Dương

Temples overview
Phu Quoc is dotted with so many beautiful,
peaceful pagodas and temples that are open to
visitors, here’s just a selection of them that are
well worth a visit
Su Muong Pagoda
Whilst sunrise is the best time to visit, anytime our
pick really is a good time to take in this gorgeous old
mountain pagoda. Be sure to visit all three parts of
the pagoda – the temple itself; the shrine at the rear,
sitting under an amazing 150-year old banyan tree;
and at the very back to the original pagoda, take the
iron steps up for a spectacular view of the valley below.
Phap Quang Pagoda
Buddhist temple located approx. 2 km south of town
on Trung Hung Dao St, this is a very popular visiting
place for Vietnamese tourists
Co Sau Temple
Located high up in the mountain with spectacular sea
views and sunsets this is a great spot to visit especially
if they are performing ceremonies. Its about 2 km
south on the way out of town, take a left off Tran Hung
Dao St and head up.

Sung Hung Co Tu Pagoda
The oldest pagoda on Phu Quoc, located on Tran
Hung Dao Street, best time to visit is at the end of
the rain season when they have an annual festival
that the whole town seems to turn out for!
Ho Quoc Pagoda
The biggest pagoda on Phu Quoc, located 25km
from Duong Dong town, it is a spectacular drive
along the coastal road to the temple, great to visit
either to or from Sao Beach in the south east.
Hung Quoc Tu Temple
Located right in the middle of town at 81 Nguyen Trung
Truc St, this place is well renowned for its generosity
and charity work to the local community, namely they
supply chinese treatments and medicines, massage
and every day serve up more than a few hundred
vegetarian dishes free for the needy.
Dinh Ba Temple
Located at Ong Lang Beach 6km from Duong Dong
town is this lovely quiet temple on a beautiful beach, a
popular weekend spot for locals.
Ong Phung Temple
Located on the way to the north and steeped high up
on the mountain, this small yet beautiful temple is
total serenity with fantastic sea views.
Nguyen Trung Truc Temple
Located in Ganh Dau in the far north west of the Island,
this famous Temple was built in memory of Nguyen
Trung Truc and other heroes who have served for
country and nation.
Dinh Cau Temple
Right in the centre of town, Dinh Cau is on a rocky cliff
at the start of the Duong Dong River and a great place

FEATURE STORY
Cao Dai through my own eyes!
On my very first visit to Vietnam almost two decades ago my day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels
and particularly Tay Ninh’s magnificent Cao Dai Temple certainly stood out in my memory
for a long time.
From the architecture of the temple building itself
to the beauty of their beliefs it was truly a place that
touched me and not a moment to forget, it was i
thought the home of the Cao Dai religion ….. that is
until I discovered Phu Quoc Island!
As i found out it was in Phu Quoc in 1919 (two years
before it was documented in Tay Ninh) that the religion
was started and the left eye of God envisioned, so now
I truly made it to the home of the Cao Dai!
The left eye of God representing the yang (masculine,
ordaining, positive and expansive) activity of the male
creator Cao Đài (“Highest Lord”) and balanced by the
yin (âm) of Mother Goddess, the Queen Mother of the
West (Diêu Trì Kim Mẫu, Tây Vương Mẫu), the feminine,
nurturing and restorative mother of humanity.
The Divine Eye itself has 16 rays of light emanating
from it, nine radiate upward representing the nine
levels of heaven while seven radiate downwards
representing the seven emotions, which believers
must be in control of.
According to God’s divine message, there was nothing
before the creation of the material universe but one
monad; this monad is a Tao or God.
With no form, no color, no beginning, and no end he
is invariable, unfathomably powerful, and everlasting.
So after creating the universe God divided his spirit and
with it made all matters and creatures.
The doctrines of the Cao Đài faith tends not only to
reconcile with all religious views, but also to adapt
itself to all degrees of spiritual evolution, thus a basic
principle of Caodaism is “All Religions are One”.
Followers of Cao Dai engage in prayer, veneration of
ancestors, a focus on nonviolence and vegetarianism
all with the goal of a union with God and freedom from
Samsara, the repeating cycle of birth, life and death
reincarnation.
The number of Caodaists in Vietnam vary; with
numbers rising up to 6 million if all branches
worldwide are added up, in Duong Dong there is two
temples, the main temple is in Nguyen Trai St in the
center of Duong Dong while a smaller one is on 30/4
St heading south on the outskirts of town.
Though I have visited this temple many times over
the years stair its still an exhilaration to walk around
and feel the warmth that touches me, not to forget
that tight and steep climb up the stairs of the temple
towers culminating in magical views of the river and
town below.
Admission and parking at the temple is free but
there is a donations box in the main chamber
on the ground floor, feel free as donations are
used for the ongoing upkeep and support of
this spiritual place.

Where are you from, how long have you lived on
Phu Quoc?
I come from Auckland New Zealand, around the year
2000 I came to work on the Australian pearl farm here.
What do you do here and how do you spend most
of your time?
I am the manager at Phu Quoc Pearls and spend my time
hanging with the others expats, our social calendar is
usually synchronized to world sporting events!
What’s Phu Quoc’s best-kept secret?
A small fishing village called Ham Ninh its one of the
smallest fishing towns on the island. I spent 5 nights
here exploring and eating awesome Vietnamese food
every day, I still managed to find plenty of things to do!
Your favourite cheap eats?
A great local lady Wing she is on Tran Hung Dao Street
opposite Long Beach Resort at Wings restaurant, go
and try the house curry its an absolute winner!
Best place for enjoying local food?
I love buying fresh produce from the local markets and
cooking it right in my own kitchen.
Best bar or the one you most frequent?
I like to go to Rory’s on the beach to watch the sun
go down but you can very often find me at Buddy Ice
Cream in town (opposite the marina) I my love the
New Zealand ice cream and that’s the best place for it!

Món cà-ri gia truyền ở nhà hàng Wings đối diện Long
Beach Resort trên đường Trần Hưng Đạo. Đó là một
trong những món ngon nhất ở đây.
Anh thường đến nơi nào để thưởng thức món ăn?
Tôi thích mua những sản vật tươi ngon tại địa phương
và chế biến ngay trong nhà bếp của mình.
Quán bar nào anh hay đến?
Tôi thích đến Rosy’s hoặc bất kì quán bar nào gần bờ
biển để ngắm hoàng hôn. Tuy nhiên, bạn có thể nhìn
thấy tôi xuất hiện rất thường xuyên tại Buddy Ice
Cream, tôi rất yêu thích kem Niu-Di-Lân của nơi này.
3 điều du khách nên làm nhất tại Phú Quốc là gì?
Thứ nhất là lặn biển, thứ 2 là thăm trang trại ngọc
trai và thứ 3 là đến thưởng thức hải sản và sản vật địa
phương tại Chợ Đêm!
Anh thích tính cách nào của người dân địa phương?
Đó chính là niềm vui sống, nhiệt huyết sống, cách họ
ứng biến và tận dụng những thứ đơn giản nhất có sẵn
quanh mình.

ABOUT PHU QUOC
Island of Nature
The park is drained by numerous, mainly seasonal
streams leading to the Cua Can river, which in turn
drains out of the southern part of the national park and
flows into the sea on the west coast at Cua Can.
In terms of flora, the National Park is an ideal natural
environment for plant species with approx. 13,000 ha
of lowland evergreen forest equivalent to almost 40%
of the total area of the park.
To date approx. 929 plant species have been recorded
and at lower elevations in some areas of the national
park are distinctive formations of Melaleuca –
beautiful evergreen trees that are alternately arranged
in dark green and grey-green colors.
Geography & Climate
Topographically varied, Phu Quoc Island offers the
visitor an array of landscapes, ranging from sandy
beaches to forested mountains, river plains and smaller
islets surrounding it which make up an archipelago of
24 islands.
In the center and south much of the original lowland
tropical evergreen forest cover has been cleared
leaving behind a mix of agricultural and secondary
forest landscapes and a variety of rural settlements.
These areas contrast with denser and more extensive
national park rainforest areas to the north, where the
scenery of natural coastline and rivers at their peak and
during May to September are stunningly beautiful.
Ecology & Environment
Phu Quoc is a very mountainous and densely forested
Island with a total of 99 mountain peaks from the
smallest of less than 100m to the largest 603 metres.
Situated in the North and North-East of the Island
is the Phu Quoc National Park which covers approx.
31,000 ha of land that accounts for more than 50% of
the total area of the Island!

The topography of the national park is hilly though
its not particularly steep with the highest point being
Mount Chua at 603m.
Regards to fauna, there are approx. 43 mammal
species and among those recorded species 6 are listed
as endangered by Governmental Decree, they are;
Silvered Langur, Slow Loris, Pygmy Loris, Crab-eating
Macaque, Stump-tailed Macaque, Small-clawed Otter.
The park has approx 84 bird, 29 reptile and 11
amphibian species, in the sea around the Island there
are approx. 125 species of fish, a staggering 132 species
of Mollusk (a phylum of soft-bodied invertebrate or
Shellfish) and 62 species of Seaweed.
Another point of interest in Phu Quoc is the
islands native Dog, this dog was originally a
wild animal and later trained as a hunting dog
by the local people.
These animals have unusually sharp teeth (as
they tear their food when they eat it rather
than bite) and have claws that over the years
have been conditioned for catching their prey
and are razor sharp, though in saying this
generally “their bark is worse than their bite!”
These days they are very domesticated and it’s
hard to go anywhere on the Island without
seeing one!

ENVIROMENTAL FEATURE
The Plastic Peril
Plastic, once a revolutionary convenience, has
now become the plastic peril: finding its way
into the digestive systems of marine life and
birds, washing upon pristine shores around
the world, and becoming so commonplace
that humans use it and throw it away like an
after-thought.
Boasted by some as soon to be the next “Phuket”
of Vietnam, Phu Quoc Island is not immune to this
epidemic. If anything, it is a fragile eco-system
endangered by off-shore waste from Asia and
rapid development. This, combined with a lack of
environmental awareness among locals, means that
Phu Quoc is quickly in danger of becoming a garbage
patch of its own. While waste management plans are
underway, what simple steps can be done to make a
difference?
If you are visiting, consider reducing plastic by
implementing the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle:
• Use cloth bags, wooden baskets, or recycled plastic
hand woven bags when shopping.
• When at a store, ask merchants to weigh your
produce and put the tags directly onto the produce
rather than on a plastic bag. When checking out, ask
if they have a box. Cardboard is more recyclable than
plastic.
• When at the market, politely refuse a plastic bag and
offer your own container or your own carry bags.
• Bring your own re-useable container for take away
from restaurants and food stands. Discourage the use
of small plastic containers for dressings on the side
and save those rubber bands rather than throwing
them away.

• Those fancy drinks with the swirly straws? Ask for a
drink without them. Use a metal spoon or bring your
own bamboo straw.
• Consider buying larger quantities of items and
sharing with your friends.
• Use a reusable bottle for water and beverages rather
than buying bottled water.
• If you are a resident, or own a resort, consider using
plastic bottles for creating vertical green space.
• Support cottage industries or consider creating one
that produces alternatives to plastic or recycles it in

Monthly clean-ups have been organized and are
always looking for support. Residents, locals, and
visitors gather along predetermined routes and pick
up trash while enjoying each other’s company. For

Any long-term successful movement towards
sustainability in Vietnam needs to come through
strong partnerships between schools, NGOs, business
developers, the government, and particularly locals
impacted by pollution. But travelers, business owners,
or working expats can be excellent role models. Be proactive rather than complaining about trash in Vietnam:
implement the 3Rs, financially support organizations
making a difference, and consider picking up some
trash on your next trek through the jungle or one of
Phu Quoc’s stunning beaches. With a bit of thought

Mối hiểm họa của rác thải Nylon
Nhựa, nylon được xem là một trong những phát minh
tiện lợi của chúng ta giờ đây trở thành một mối hiểm
họa lớn đối với môi trường, đe dọa, giết chết nhiều
loài chim, sinh vật biển và các bãi biển xinh đẹp vì con
người sử dụng và vứt bỏ chúng quá dễ dàng.
Được kỳ vọng trở thành một “Phuket” của Việt Nam
nhưng Phú Quốc đang phải đối mặt rất lớn với vấn
nạn rác
thải hàng ngày không những đến từ đại dương mà
còn chính từ các hoạt động của con người, đặc biệt là
sự phát triển rất nhanh trong thời gian vừa qua. Nếu
không nhận thức đầy đủ về mối hiểm họa này và có
những hành động kịp thời thì chính chúng ta sẽ phá
hủy hệ sinh thái vốn rất nhạy cảm ở hòn đảo thiên
đường này.
Trong khi chờ hoàn thiện hệ thống xử lý rác thải trên
đảo, mỗi người chúng ta, với hành động nhỏ của mình
cũng đủ tạo ra hiệu quả và sự thay đổi lớn. Mỗi chúng
ta hãy luôn nhớ và thực hành 03 nguyên tắc đối với đồ
vật bằng nhựa, nylon là Giảm sử dụng, Tái sử dụng và
Tái chế chúng.
• Khi mua sắm hãy sử dụng các túi vải, hay túi thân
thiện với môi trường, dễ phân hủy.
• Tại các cửa hàng, yêu cầu người bán sau khi cân, bỏ
vào túi của bạn hoặc hộp, thùng giấy carton. Thùng
giấy hay hộp carton dễ phân hủy ngoài môi trường
hơn túi nylon rất nhiều.
• Khi ra chợ, hãy lịch sự từ chối lấy túi nylon của người
bán và sử dụng túi riêng của bạn
• Khi mua thức ăn ở quán ăn, nhà hàng hãy mang theo
đồ chứa của mình, không sử dụng túi nhựa để bao
bọc bên ngoài rồi lại vứt đi.
• Không sử dụng ống hút bằng nhựa đối với các thức
uống, nên dùng thìa hoặc mang theo ống hút tre trúc
hoặc bạn cũng có thể để dành một cái riêng mang
theo sử dụng cho mình tại các quán nước.
• Tái sử dụng các chai nước uống thay vì cứ mua nước
đóng chai mới hàng ngày.
• Có thể dùng các chai nhựa kết lại tạo thành các mảng
xanh đứng thân thiện xung quanh nhà.
• Ủng hộ việc xây cất sử dụng các vật liệu dân dã, thân
thiện với môi trường như cỏ tranh, lá dừa nước…

Để các chương trình hành động về môi trường thành
công trong dài hạn, rất cần sự liên kết hợp tác và hỗ
trợ của các tổ chức như trường học, các đoàn thể, tổ
chức phi chính phủ, chính quyền sở tại và đặc biệt là
sự tham gia của người dân địa phương. Bên cạnh đó,
khách du lịch, chủ các cơ sở kinh doanh và các chuyên
gia đang làm việc, sinh sống tại đảo cũng có một vai
trò cực kỳ quan trọng. Hãy cùng hành động thay vì ngồi
than phiền về tình trạng rác thải: thực hành các nguyên
tắc nêu trên về rác thải, hỗ trợ kinh phí cho các cá nhân,
tổ chức tạo nên sự khác biệt, nếu có thể hãy nhặt rác bỏ
vào thùng ở những nơi bạn tham quan như bãi biển,
lối vào rừng. Chỉ cần thay đổi suy nghĩ và một vài hành
động nhỏ, thiết thực hằng ngày, chúng ta sẽ cùng nhau
giữ cho một Việt Nam mãi sạch đẹp và xanh tươi.

Island Update
Vingroup to develop International Seaport
To be located in the town of Duong Dong with a total
investment of VND1,644 billion, the project will be
developed on an area of about 180 hectares, including
2.8 ha onshore (including passenger terminals and
supporting facilities) with 176.5 hectares of sea
surface (including the berth, breakwater and fairways)
and is scheduled for completion in 2017.
Once in use, the port will be able to receive all kinds of
passenger ships with tonnage of up to 225,000 GT and
general cargo vessels with tonnage of 20,000 DWT.
Phu Quoc Casino site shifts
Recently in Phu Quoc, the Prime Minister approved
around 567 hectares in Bai Dai in the north west of
the island to be used for tourism, recreational services
including a golf course, several resorts and a casino.
With 3,000 rooms, a conference centre and a casino
at an estimated investment cost of USD4 billion, the
actual start and completion dates are yet to be released.
Construction kicks off on world’s longest cable car
Property developer Sun Group began construction of
the world’s longest cable car on September 4, with
investment of VND4.9 trillion ($215.6 million) in the
project’s first phase, the cable car will link An Thoi
township on Phu Quoc with Thom Island.
With a length of 7.9 km, the cable car will have six
pillars, the highest being 160 meters, and stretch over
the smaller Dua and Roi islands, pegged to open 2017.
Chinese carrier to fly to Phu Quoc in January
China Southern Airlines plans to begin a direct service
between Guangzhou in China and Phu Quoc Island
from January 2016.

Huynh Quang Hung, vice chairman of the island district
in the southern province of Kien Giang, advised that
airline officials visited the island recently and said Phu
Quoc is ideal for Chinese tourists who love seafood and
going to the beach all year round, there would be three
flights a week in either direction.

Vingroup triển khai dự án cảng biển quốc tế
Cảng biển hành khách quốc tế do tập đoàn Vingroup
xây dựng sẽ được đặt tại thị trấn Dương Đông với tổng
kinh phí đầu tư lên tới 1.644 tỉ đồng. Dự án được triển
khai trên diện tích khoảng 179ha bao gồm 2.8ha phần
trên bờ (nhà ga, nhà điều hành và các công trình phụ
trợ) và 176.5 ha mặt biển (đê chắn sóng, luồng tàu và
vũng quay tàu). Dự kiến cảng biển quốc tế sẽ được
khánh thành vào năm 2017. Khi đưa vào sử dụng, cảng
có khả năng tiếp nhận các loại tàu du lịch có sức chứa
lên đến 5.000 – 6.000 khách và các tàu chở hàng tải
trọng từ 20.000 DWT.
Thay đổi vị trí xây dựng casino
Thủ tướng đã chấp nhận dời vị trí xây dựng casino từ
Bãi Thơm về khu vực Bãi Dài thuộc xã Gành Dầu và phê
duyệt đưa 567 ha tại phía Tây đảo sử dụng vào mục
đích giải trí du lịch, sân golf, resort, casino và làng nghề
thủ công. Khu phức hợp này sẽ bao gồm một khách
sạn khoảng 3.000 phòng, một trung tâm hội nghị và
một casino với tổng kinh phí đầu tư dự kiến là 4 tỉ đô
la. Hiện tại, ngày khởi công và ngày hoàn tất dự án vẫn
chưa được công bố.
Khởi công xây dựng tuyến cáp treo dài nhất thế
giới
Tập đoàn Sun Group đã làm lễ khởi công xây dựng
tuyến cáp treo dài nhất thế giới tại Phú Quốc vào ngày
4 tháng 9 năm 2015, với tổng số vốn đầu tư là 4.900 tỉ
đồng. Tuyến cáp treo này sẽ nối liền thị trấn An Thới và
xã đảo Hòn Thơm. Chiều dài toàn tuyến là 7.9km, có 6
cột trụ, điểm cao nhất là 160m và trải dài qua Hòn Dừa
và Hòn Rỏi. Cả tuyến cáp có 70 cabin, mỗi cabin chở
được 30 khách, công suất đạt 3,500 khách/h. Tuyến cáp
treo kỷ lục thế giới này dự kiến được khai trương vào
ngày 30 tháng Tư năm 2017.
Đường bay trực tiếp từ Trung Quốc tới Phú Quốc
Hãng hàng không Trung Quốc China Southern Airlines
dự định khai trương đường bay giữa Quảng Châu
(Trung Quốc) và Phú Quốc từ tháng 01/2016 với tuần
suất 3 chuyến/tuần. Đại diện hãng hàng không China
Southern Airlines đã đến khảo sát Phú Quốc và nhận
xét rằng Phú Quốc là điểm đến lí tưởng dành cho
những du khách yêu thích hải sản và biển xanh quanh
năm của Trung Quốc.

Days of our
island! 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
It is said that only about 5% of travelers return
to Vietnam, the following characters belong to
this percentage... their stories are presented to
you in, THE DAYS OF OUR ISLAND!
Mr & Mrs Peach first arrived on Phu Quoc Island during
the summer of 2005, they were excited to embrace
the Vietnamese culture and dive in to the far east, but
things quickly went awry following their introduction
to Mr Lemon.
Mr Lemon had been living on Phu Quoc Island since
2002 and his knowledge of the island was shaky
at best. Mr & Mrs Peach felt confident though (after
several beers) that he was the tour guide for them.
The Peaches itinerary included
• A fishing tour
• A motor bike tour of the Island
• Walks on some of the best beaches in the world
But to fully understand the intensity of these tours,
you’’ll need some island history.
The motor bike tour was excellent, helmets were not
required, 5 hours later, 4 liters of water, 3 flat tires 2 sore
asses and 1 very hungry couple. Off to eat, they went to
Restaurant B. menu (Seafood, Rice, & Pork).
Walks on the beach were beautiful, 5 kilometres later,
4 swims, 3 disgruntled cows, 2 tanned Peaches and 1
hungry couple again! Off to another Restaurant, menu
you guessed it (Seafood, Rice, & Pork).
The Peaches could not live on only seafood, rice & pork.
It left them asking the question, where’s the Beef?
Mr Lemon sensing the Peaches frustration with the
local cuisine offered his advice, an introduction, to Mr
& Mrs Grape .
Mr & Mrs Grape (also ex-pats) were in the process of
opening a restaurant & developing a menu. Are beef
ribs a consideration for your menu they asked, yah yah
was the response.
The ribs were excellent however it was the same thing
they had been eating all along, the ribs were pork ribs!
Maybe it was the case of lost in translation, considering
the 3 characters mentioned in this story are from
different parts of the world, but I’m pretty sure this
is how the Peaches fully understood the meaning of
the famous Vietnamese phrase “Same. Same. but
Different!”
Back in those days Phu Quoc was a lot less developed.
The roads were a lot smaller and made from red clay.
Dusty when dry and like an ice rink when wet, the
only source of transportation was by motorbike. Cows
roamed the streets and the beaches, the restaurants
were few & far between and seemed as though they
all shared the same menu... rice, seafood & pork.
First up was a fishing tour which was awesome, 5
hours of beautiful uninhabited coast line views, 4
almost caught fish, 3 caught fish, 2 cases of beer
and 1 hungry couple later, off to Restaurant A. menu
(Seafood, Rice, & Pork).

những ngày khám phá đảo
Theo khảo sát có 5% khách du lịch muốn quay lại Việt Nam, những vị khách sau
đây nằm trong số đó... và đây là câu chuyện của họ
Ông bà Peach lần đầu đến Phú Quốc vào mùa hè năm
2005, họ rất hào hứng khi hòa mình vào văn hóa Việt
Nam nói riêng và văn hóa phương Đông nói chung.
Nhưng mọi thứ không như ý khi họ được giới thiệu và
đến gặp ông Lemon.
Ông Lemon đã sống ở đảo Phú Quốc từ năm 2002 nên
vốn hiểu biết của ông về hòn đảo này rất đáng nể. Ông
bà Peach (sau vài ly bia) rất tin tưởng ông Lemon và để
ông ấy làm hướng dẫn viên cho mình.
Lịch trình của ông bà Peach bao gồm:
• Câu cá
• Tham quan đảo bằng xe gắn máy
• Dạo bộ trên những bãi biển đẹp nhất thế giới
Nhưng để hiểu rõ độ khó của những tour này, bạn cần
hình dung điều kiện của đảo lúc bấy giờ.
Những ngày ấy, Phú Quốc còn rất kém phát triển.
Những con đường thuần túy là đất đỏ và hẹp hơn bây
giờ rất nhiều. Ngày nắng thì bụi và ngày mưa thì lầy lội.
Xe máy là phương tiện di chuyển duy nhất. Người ta thả
bò lang thang trên đường và trên các bãi biển. Thời đó
có rất ít nhà hàng và chúng thường cách xa nhau. Thực
đơn thì nghèo nàn chỉ gồm món cơm, hải sản và sườn.
Khởi đầu tour là chuyến câu cá tuyệt vời với 5 giờ ngắm
cảnh biển hoang sơ, sau khi câu được vài con cá và làm
vài lon bia thì ông bà Peach bắt đầu đói bụng. Họ dừng
chân tại nhà hàng A, thực đơn phục vụ gồm hải sản,
cơm và sườn.
Tour tham quan bằng xe máy sau đó cũng tuyệt vời
không kém, dù mất 5 tiếng đồng hồ, uống hết 4 lít
nước, 3 lần bị bể bánh xe, cả 2 người vừa ê ẩm vừa đói
bụng. Họ ghé lại ăn tại nhà hàng B, vẫn lại là ba món:
hải sản, cơm và sườn.
Sau khi ăn, họ đi dạo 5km trên bãi biển xinh đẹp, 4 lần
xuống tắm biển. Và khi bắt đầu đói, ông Lemon đưa
ông bà Peach lên ăn tại một nhà hàng C nhưng thực
đơn cũng không có gì khác biệt: hải sản, cơm và sườn.
Ông bà Peach không thể sống suốt ngày với hải sản,
cơm và sườn vì vậy lúc này buộc phải hỏi ông Lemon:
Tôi hỏi ông chỗ nào phục vụ món sườn bò?
Ông Lemon nhận thấy sự bất cập đó trong ẩm thực Phú
Quốc và thấu hiểu “nỗi lòng” tối ngày ăn một món sườn
của ông bà Peach nên đã kể cho ông bà Gape nghe.
Ông bà Gape (cũng là những người nước ngoài đến
đảo lập nghiệp) chuẩn bị mở nhà hàng và đang nghiên
cứu thực đơn. Họ băn khoăn liệu có nên đưa món sườn
bò vào thực đơn không. Và dĩ nhiên, sau lời tư vấn của
ông Lemon, họ đưa ngay món ấy vào thực đơn để phục
vụ đa dạng khẩu vị của du khách.
Sườn quả thật rất ngon, nơi nào cũng ghi trong thực
đơn là có món sườn mà không giải thích gì thêm. Đi
đến đâu họ cũng chỉ phục vụ món sườn mà lại toàn

Post & Telecommunications Services
The main post office on 30/4 Street in Duong Dong
town will sell stamps and be able to send postcards,
letters and packages domestically within Vietnam
and anywhere internationally.
Banks and ATMs
There are lots of banks in Duong Dong, with
Vietcombank and Sacombank being the best for
‘over the counter’ transactions. The banks will accept
Visa, MasterCard and American Express, and you
will need to use your passport for ID.
ATMs can be found easily around the main town,
especially close to the Night Market (Vo Thi Sau
street) and the marina area. There’s also an ATM in
the lobby at Saigon Phu Quoc resort, next to Coop
mart and at the turn off to La Veranda resort. The
ATMs will take all internationally recognized cards.
For money transfers there is a Western Union
service at the Kien Long Bank at 139 30/4 street
and Agribank at the corner of Tran Hung Dao and
30/4 street.
