International Business
Desch Plantpak is a global player with manufacturing sites on two continents and customers in over seventy countries
worldwide. Two production processes are used, thermoforming and injection moulding which produce pots, decorative
containers, marketing trays, shuttle trays, propagation trays, bedding plant systems and hanging baskets. The production
facilities in England, Holland, Germany and the United States use recycled material for the great majority of products and
view respect for the environment as a high priority. With a capacity of over 40,000 tons of finished products, Desch Plantpak
is one of the leading manufacturers in the horticulture market.
Local Production for the UK and Ireland
Our production site in Mundon, near Maldon in Essex, produces approximately 50% of the products sold by Desch Plantpak
Ltd. in the UK and Ireland. These are complemented by products manufactured by our sister companies in Holland and
Germany. This enables us to give you the best possible service whilst minimising transportation and its effect on the
environment.
Recycling and the Environment
Approximately 98% of our products are made from recycled material sourced from the manufacturing industry and
commercial growers. Our recycling service is available to you, our grower customer and all the material we collect
from you is re-processed and made back into pots and trays. The amount of packaging used to contain our products
has been minimised to reduce waste and increase efficiency on your nursery. See page 70 for further details.
Product Innovation and Development
By working with our grower customers, we are able to introduce new products for today’s market on a regular basis.
We welcome your ideas and are always ready to consider bespoke products designed to your specifications. Our designers
always look to include features and benefits that are compatible with modern machinery and growing techniques.
D-Grade Biobased Horticultural Products
Desch Plantpak produces a range of thermoformed round and square pots in D-Grade bio-degradeable material.
This material has been researched and developed in conjunction with key growers and universities over many years.
D-Grade is a 100% natural material. It is not oil based and it is made from 100% renewable material.

market. The products featured in this brochure have been carefully selected from this range and have been chosen
to meet the specific demands of the UK horticulture industry. However, any products that are produced within the
Desch Plantpak group and are not featured on the following pages, can be made available to you on request.

Special Colours
Many of our pots can be produced in a range of colours and printed with details of your choice. Minimum run
quantities and reasonable notice are required.
Pot Printing • Promote your company • Promote your plants
• Bar code, price and instructions without the need for labelling
We are pleased to be able to offer you a comprehensive pot printing service. Anything from a simple bar code
to a full colour design with a photographic image. Most types of pots from our range (from 8.3cm to 30cm
diameter) can be given your exclusive identity.
We can print anything from a few thousand to several million, depending on the type of pot. Quotations can
be given to include special pot colours subject to minimum quantities and lead times.
Sign off your proof before printing commences to ensure accuracy and satisfaction.
Labelling
We also offer a ‘Pot Labelling’ service for some pot ranges. Your bar code and plant name on a standard size
label, 40mm x 24mm. Ideal for small quantities. No set-up charges.
Customer specific, full colour and special size labels can be produced.

your nursery and throughout the supply
chain, right to the consumer.
At Desch Plantpak, we use both post consumer and
post industrial recycled materials in our products.
With an extensive knowledge of plastic materials
and recycling, we are able to convert these waste
streams into Engineered Polymers capable of providing
products that perform in the supply chain.
Desch Plantpak has industry leading capabilities:
Our UK in-house laboratory is fully equipped with
modern analytical equipment. We are able to assess
the physical and chemical properties of our incoming
raw materials, in-process operations and finished
products.

gives us the ability to manipulate the characteristics
of each grade of plastic. This ensures that our
products meet the performance requirements

The number of cases and pots per pallet.

The Scheme

The Desch Plantpak Recycling Scheme is open to all new and existing customers.
No membership is required.
No fees are charged.
We can collect all of your waste PP and PS material, regardless of manufacturer.
All waste plastic collected, is recycled into new pots and trays.
Our ‘Closed Loop’ scheme ensures that all material is truly recycled and re-used by you!
What You Do Next
• Simply separate your waste pots and trays and stretch-wrap them onto different pallets.
• Advise either your local Area Sales Manager or our sales office that you have material to collect (minimum 4 pallets).
• On collection, we can leave you a ‘Waste Transfer Note’ which is your proof to the Environment Agency of where your
waste has gone and that we are authorised (by the Agency) to collect it.

We take the material to our recycling plant.
The plastic is shredded, washed and then granulated.
The processed material is then returned to our production plants.
The Polypropylene is made into either injection moulded or thermoformed pots.
The Polystyrene is made into bedding packs, marketing and shuttle trays.

Only waste plastic is included in the scheme (PS, PP).
Any loose soil, labels and additional packaging must be removed.
All material must be securely stretch-wrapped onto pallets.
The material must be stacked to a minimum height of 1 metre above the pallet and to a maximum of 2.4 metres.
Pots (usually PP) and trays (usually PS) must be separated onto different pallets.
The minimum collection quantity is four pallets of material.
Collection is by prior arrangement only.
Desch Plantpak reserves the right to refuse any material that is deemed unsafe or unsuitable.
Desch Plantpak reserves the right to refuse collection of other manufacturers pots and trays.
The scheme does not include expanded Polystyrene (EPS) waste.
A forklift truck will be required to load the material onto our lorry.
Easy Identification of Material Types
Polypropylene (PP)
Usually identified on the product by the number 5 surrounded by three arrows with the letters PP underneath.
Most pots (Y, Zed, F, X and Desch) are polypropylene as are decorative pots and hanging baskets.
Polystyrene (PS)
We use high impact polystyrene (HIPS) which is usually identified
on the product by the number 6 surrounded by three arrows
with the letters PS underneath.
All our marketing trays, shuttle trays, bedding
plant trays, seed trays, plug trays, propagation
trays, square pots NL range are made from HIPS.
Packaging Recovery
Notes (PRN’s)
These are your proof to the Environment Agency that you
have met your recycling obligations and can be supplied
through Desch Plantpak at current market rates.
