• Planning of a financing and support system
Client
Our client is a medium-sized company whose core competences focus on the areas of
virtual commissioning and programmable logic controller (PLC). In this context,
the entrepreneurial activities specifically divide into services (planning and implementation at the client side), training (vocational and further training) and software
development (in-house/patents and commission-based).
Starting situation & objective
In the course of digitalisation, manufacturing companies in particular are increasingly making use of automated and intelligent manufacturing facilities. In this context, the service portfolio of our client addresses two elementary core requirements:
Virtual commissioning methods enable the simulated testing of extensions, modifications or even new installations of complete manufacturing facilities without restricting ongoing operations. This means that they possess an enormous economic
potential which can be diversified in the future due to the increasing coverage of
automated facilities. Our client acts as a sought-after service provider of such virtual
commissioning methods for globally active companies while continuing to develop
their own software and supported applications.

The automatisation of complete manufacturing complexes also changes the requirements profile of the employees of a company in the short term. Against this
background, our client offers vocational and further training for the control, the
programming and the maintenance of automated facilities and industrial robots.
The increased order volume led to the need for a rationalisation of the product/service catalogue in order to use the available personnel and infrastructural capacities
as efficiently as possible and extend them if needed. In the course of this realignment, the existing company structures and the strategic company goals were also
to be newly defined or adjusted.
Solution approach & implementation
An environment and company analysis was used to create an industry-specific
situation picture as well as a resilient development prognosis. On this basis, stable
concepts for the product/service portfolio, the business structure and the administrative processes were developed and implemented. The strategic objective was oriented towards the cooperation with the four largest producers of industrial robots,
ABB, KUKA, FANUC and Yaskawa, a licensing of the in-house virtual commissioning
soft-ware and the continuous replacement of company-specific PLC software by a
universal application. In the course of the strategy implementation, the respective
services were outsourced by means of a name change. With regard to the newly
defined company focus, the activities in the area of Human Resources were adapted and an appropriate infrastructure was created. The introduction of a network
strategy led to the access to industry-specific networks and research groups, which
meant that the client was able to optimise their developments in a future-oriented
test environment, leading to a strong unique feature concerning the sustainability
of their products. This logic in turn could be successfully transferred to the acquisition strategy for investors and industrial partners.
