A warm welcome for the EUCO, joined once more by Iwan
Llewelyn-Jones as soloist, with director Matthias Wollong,
First Concert Master of the Dresden Staatskapelle. Since
EUCO's last visit the orchestra has toured not less than
seven European countries, with concerts in Spain, Ireland,
Holland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Turkey, and with Sir
James Galway in Italy, where the orchestra has a residency in Forli. Other
distinguished soloists who have appeared with EUCO during the year
include Elin Manahan Thomas, John Lill, Emma Johnson, Pieter Wispelwey,
and Julian Lloyd Webber. In 2010 tours include South America with Natalie
Clein, the Baltic States and across Europe.

featured on BBC Radio Wales,

Awards ‘best jazz band’ Little Fish.
Saxophonist Fraser Smith plays for
a number of function bands
across the UK, and his own Fraser
Smith Quintet played at last years’
Brecon Jazz Festival, and appears
regularly on the Cardiff jazz scene.

A welcome return by Richard Durrant, one of the UK’s leading guitar
virtuosos, in his ground breaking Guitar Whisperer concert.
Programme includes Walton’s Five Bagatelles and other pieces on the
classical guitar, as well as a unique take on Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells,
along with the ever popular Electric Counterpoint by Steve Reich, and some
revelatory transcriptions of Bach played on the “wrong” instruments. In the
past year Richard has played 60 solo concerts and was guest soloist with
both the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Grammy nominated
Emperor String Quartet.

Voskresenije Choir

Voskresenije is a choir of nine mixed voices, all of whom trained at
the St Petersburg Conservatoire and are soloists in their own right.
Their conductor, Jurij Maruk, was previously conductor at the
Mariinskij Theatre.
Though their repertoire includes a few sometimes surprising
Western European gems, most of the programme is Russian sacred
music, as well as treasures from the folk music of Russia. This
repertoire, all of which is for unaccompanied voices, emphasises
their thrilling and highly distinctive Russian vocal style.

Fiona Owen: Peace is Every Step - exploring the teaching and
practice of Thich Nhat Hanh
Thich Nhat Hanh is the well-known Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk,
teacher, peace and human rights activist, poet, and founder of 'Engaged
Buddhism'. His mindfulness teachings are 'dedicated to the work of inner
transformation for the benefit of individuals and society' and are radical in
their simplicity. In this workshop, we will explore together some ideas

Romantic Reveries
2010 marks the bicentenary of two geniuses of the keyboard, Frederic
Chopin and Robert Schumann. Iwan Llewelyn-Jones returns to the Ucheldre
Centre with a series of four recitals in which he will perform some of their
best loved piano works and uncover a few hidden gems. Accompany Iwan
on his guided tour through the world of the Romantic musician and
experience the passion and drama of this unforgettable music.
Tonight’s opening recital includes Schumann’s dreamy Arabesque and
sparkling Novelettes, together with Chopin’s Mazurkas, Waltzes, and the
breathtaking 4th Ballade. Also works by Mozart, Debussy, and Chabrier.

Opera Workshop

Leading opera voice coach Marian Bryfdir takes a new series of 5
workshops beginning with finding your voice and singing in the
operatic chorus. No experience needed for this introductory day,
but there will be an opportunity for solo singers to audition for
lead roles in subsequent workshops.
Come and see if you have operability by working on excerpts from
different operas as part of a chorus with members of Pocket Opera
assisting. Course continues in 2010 on 23 January, 20 February,
20 March and 11 April plus possibility of performing in the chorus
of Swansea City Opera’s performance of the Pearl Fishers in the
Ucheldre Centre on Saturday 17 April 2010.
The Uchedre restaurant will be open from 6-7.30 pm for evening
meals so please stay on to see a performance by Pocket Opera of
Figaro and Friends.

Welcome to Seville! We hope to bring you a glimpse of the happenings in
the Almaviva household: the Count’s tireless pursuit of Susanna (soon to be
married to Figaro), the housekeeper Marcellina’s equally tireless pursuit of
Figaro (later revealed to be her long lost son!), a teenage flirt called
Cherubino (who is a girl, playing a boy dressed up as a girl…) and a
Countess suffering a mid-life crisis together with - a gossip-mad priest and
a nervous and incompetent lawyer.
The multi-faceted singers of Pocket Opera divide and share a multitude of
characters from this and many other operas between them, using minimal
props and costumes to create an evening of music and theatre in their own
style.

American singer-songwriter Cathryn Craig and accomplished British
guitarist Brian Willoughby create an intimate atmosphere with songs about
life experience, coupled with amusing anecdotes.
Cathryn, from Nashville, has sung with The Righteous Brothers, Shel
Silverstein, Jorma Kaukonnen. and Bobby Bare. Brian began his
professional career with Mary Hopkin in 1971, and has recorded and
toured with a range of artists, including Monty Python, Sweet’s Brian
Connolly, Joe Brown, Jim Diamond, New World, and Roger Whittaker. He
was lead guitarist with Strawbs for 25 years.

Holy Coves
Holy Coves, formerly known as
The Lizzies, return to Ucheldre
for a home show. This has been
a busy and most productive
year, with the band recording
their debut album, from which
a double ‘A’ side release will be
available at the end of October.

many major cities before
