Saturday 17 Sadwrn October – Hydref European Union Chamber Orchestra Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 12 in G minor Mozart - Piano Concerto in C K.415 Dvŏrák - Two Waltzes Op. 54 Haydn - Symphony No. 52 in C minor A warm welcome for the EUCO, joined once more by Iwan Llewelyn-Jones as soloist, with director Matthias Wollong, First Concert Master of the Dresden Staatskapelle. Since EUCO's last visit the orchestra has toured not less than seven European countries, with concerts in Spain, Ireland, Holland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Turkey, and with Sir James Galway in Italy, where the orchestra has a residency in Forli. Other distinguished soloists who have appeared with EUCO during the year include Elin Manahan Thomas, John Lill, Emma Johnson, Pieter Wispelwey, and Julian Lloyd Webber. His original compositions featured on BBC Radio Wales, S4C, and ITV, and he was cofounder of the 2009 Welsh Jazz Awards ‘best jazz band’ Little Fish. Made in 1923, Salomé loosely follows the biblical story of King Herod and his unbridled lust for his young stepdaughter. 1 hr 13 Charlie Barber's new score is performed live by four musicians playing between 25-30 percussion instruments over a dramatic pre-recorded backdrop of vocal settings of psalms sung in Latin and Hebrew. Their conductor, Jurij Maruk, was previously conductor at the Mariinskij Theatre. Though their repertoire includes a few sometimes surprising Western European gems, most of the programme is Russian sacred music, as well as treasures from the folk music of Russia. His mindfulness teachings are 'dedicated to the work of inner transformation for the benefit of individuals and society' and are radical in their simplicity. In this workshop, we will explore together some ideas about 'interbeing' and consider their implications. Come and see if you have operability by working on excerpts from different operas as part of a chorus with members of Pocket Opera assisting. We hope to bring you a glimpse of the happenings in the Almaviva household: the Count’s tireless pursuit of Susanna (soon to be married to Figaro), the housekeeper Marcellina’s equally tireless pursuit of Figaro (later revealed to be her long lost son!), a teenage flirt called Cherubino (who is a girl, playing a boy dressed up as a girl…) and a Countess suffering a mid-life crisis together with - a gossip-mad priest and a nervous and incompetent lawyer. Cathryn, from Nashville, has sung with The Righteous Brothers, Shel Silverstein, Jorma Kaukonnen. and Bobby Bare. Brian began his professional career with Mary Hopkin in 1971, and has recorded and toured with a range of artists, including Monty Python, Sweet’s Brian Connolly, Joe Brown, Jim Diamond, New World, and Roger Whittaker. This has been a busy and most productive year, with the band recording their debut album, from which a double ‘A’ side release will be available at the end of October.
