It should also be read by those who are involved with the submittal process to ensure a successful installation. The Quick Start Guide is a colorful overview of the steps necessary to install and start up the GR 2400 system. Please also refer to our Product Installation Guides for installation and start-up details for each GR 2400 product. 113 Following the Approved Submittal Documentation The documentation specific to your project (excepting systems not factory programmed) consists of the Bus File and the Single Line Drawings—both of which have been carefully engineered for your site. Please adhere carefully to these customer-approved construction documents. In some cases, the approved submittals don’t accurately represent the as-built devices or programming due to requirements per production specification, quality control, and superseding changes by the customer made after the approved submittals. In every case, as-built bus files and single line documentation are provided with every system (located with the door sheets in the main panel). Upon request, the dated record-only drawings can be provided via email or fax. The Bus File The Bus File consists of schedules for each control panel and digital device. The device schedule indicates device location, programming details, and the line-feed for each relay or dimmer. Refer to Figure 2. It clearly shows where the panel is located, the line-feed for each relay, and load names. The approved submittal amends any relay numbering indicated on the original plans. Varying from the approved submittal, by swapping relays or loads, will result in unnecessary re-programming in the field and may violate NEC or UL requirements particularly if controlling both normal and emergency power loads. If you consider it absolutely necessary to vary from the schedules, please try to address this during the submittal phase, or if during the installation phase, notify Tech Support prior to making changes. The single line drawing shows all digital devices on one bus. Though devices are usually shown on the bus in an order similar to the physical location, it is not necessary to wire them in the order shown. Devices may be placed in any order on the bus. Single-Bus Systems Figure 3.1 A single-bus system only has one DTC clock located on the bus. DTC Clock Remote Panel Multi-Bus Systems When a system exceeds the length of a single bus, it becomes a multi-bus system. The multiple buses are connected by a “back bone bus” headed by an “UpLink” Card. Moving a device to a bus other than the bus indicated for that item on the single line drawing can result in the device not being able to control the circuits it was specified for. Figure 3.2 MetaServer Card The UpLink Card is used to link multiple buses. Digital devices can be daisy-chained in any order but may not be moved to another bus, otherwise they might not control the correct circuits. Do not “home run” any of the digital devices on the bus back to a panel. When cabling digital devices, no spurs or T-Taps are allowed. Cabling for photosensors and the peripherals are covered in their respective manuals. Figure 4.1 If the above illustration was converted to a single line drawing, similar to those supplied with your project, it would look like this. The saw-tooth pattern is a drawing standard which indicates a daisy-chain style network (RS-485). There are two extremely important issues to think about when planning your low voltage cabling route: voltage drop and the current-draw of bus-powered devices. If too many bus-powered devices are added contiguously, particularly over long cabling lengths, they may not receive enough current to operate from the active devices. Use the Bus-Powered Devices chart (Figure 6) to help plan your cabling route by avoiding too many contiguous bus-powered devices. The active devices shipped with your order will supply enough current for all the bus-powered devices if cabled properly. Never try to support more than 21 items on the bus from a large relay panel (such as a GR 2400 or The Blue Box LT), or nine items from a MicroPanel. Since 90% of failed system start ups are due to bad Cat. 5 connections or crimping, it can save a lot of time and money to both read and apply the data in this kit. Additional kits will be shipped for a small fee to jobs that need more than one or have less panels. Pre-Made Cables In some applications where the cable lengths are standard, it is well worth ordering pre-made factory cables. For specific product manuals and installation guides, visit www.lightingcontrols.com or call Tech Support at 800-345-4448 prior to equipment start-up and turn-over. 125 SYSTEM START-UP CHECKLIST IMPORTANT NOTE: Tools You Will Need This checklist can save you many hours of work, if followed carefully, by preventing common problems encountered in networked installations. Even if each cable length checks out with a Local Area Network (LAN) cable tester, it is still possible for the entire cable structure to become problematic once connected. The following are just some of the scenarios that may cause this problem: You have been provided with the following devices (located in the master panel) to assist with testing your system. 1 Have them on-hand along with your meter: 2 1. GR 2400 Terminators • Dirt/dust in the RJ45 socket 2. XPoint Terminators (if applicable) • Strain on the Cat. 5 cable 3. Data/Power Jumper • D amaged springs in the RJ45 sockets, caused by strain on the cable 4. Bus Checker 5. Multi-Meter • D amaged conductors, caused by nicks while cable is being stripped • Bus length exceeding 4,000 feet 3 4 5 IMPORTANT NOTE: Please refer to the inset diagrams to understand cable structure and placement of bus terminators, as these vary slightly for each bus type. GR 2400 OR GR 1400 (SINGLE BUS) XPOINT OR GR 2400 (MULTI-BUS) 126 HARDWARE ACTIVATION TESTS Before starting, please note the approximate total bus cable length for each bus: Bus 1: Bus 2: Bus 3: Bus 4: 4. All test values must be within 10% of the values in the chart below to be considered valid. 12Ω to 20Ω 3,000 ft. 102Ω to 120Ω 1,000 ft. 34Ω to 40Ω 4,000 ft. 130Ω to 160Ω Ground _____ohms A _____ohms +12 _____ohms B _____ohms ________ohms: 10. Remove the Bus Checker Card. NOTE: For an XPoint bus, remove the Bus Checker Card and plug the XPoint Terminator into the device. Continuity Test Results Chart (Gnd to A & B to +12) 500 ft. _____ohms NOTE: For an XPoint bus, plug one terminator in at one end of the bus and the Bus Checker Card at the other. Plug the second terminator into one of the RJ45 ports on the Bus Checker Card and measure the above. _____ohms 68Ω to 80Ω B to +12 A to B 3. At the other end, plug in the Bus Checker Card and measure resistance across these terminals: 2,000 ft. _____ohms 9. Measure the resistance across the following terminal on the Bus Checker Card: 2. At one bus end, plug in the Data/Power Jumper. 3Ω to 6Ω Gnd to +12 8. Add a terminator on the first and last device. 1. De-power every item on the bus and check the voltage at both ends to ensure a reading of 0V. Remove any terminators. 100 ft. _____ohms Purpose: To ensure that only two terminators exist; one at each end of the bus. Readings out of range would indicate a missing, misplaced or extra terminator on the bus. Terminators are provided in a labeled bag inside the DTC master panel. Purpose: To verify bus length, continuity and detect crossed data-pair wires. Do the following: Ohms: A to +12 Terminator Test Continuity Test Length: _____ohms NOTE: Readings between each terminal and earth ground should be infinite or “open.” Each test must be passed before moving onto the next. If any readings obtained are out of range, refer to the Troubleshooting section (later in this checklist) or call Tech Support at 800-345-4448. Ohms: Gnd to B 7. Measure resistance between the terminals below and earth ground (metallic enclosure or conduit): When doing this checklist, the Cat. 5 connecting the GR 2400 system to the XPoint Routers should be disconnected. Length: _____ohms Purpose: to detect any pathways to earth ground: For an XPoint system, this checklist would be completed for each of the XPoint buses in addition to, but separate from, the GR 2400 bus it’s connected to. B to + 12 A to B Earth Ground Test For example, on a GR 2400 system these steps are followed for each bus in addition to, but separate from, the backbone bus (bus allowing all buses to communicate with each other). _____ohms _____ohms NOTE: All test values should be greater than 1K ohms. The following steps should be performed on each bus separately: Gnd to A Gnd to A 11. Call Tech Support at 800-345-4448 with your results. Bus Checker Card Short Circuit Test Purpose: to detect any short circuits along the bus. Please use the 1K ohms or equivalent range setting on your multi-meter. DO NOT use a “beep” test. 5. Remove the Data/Power Jumper. 6. Measure the resistance across the following terminals on the Bus Checker Card: 127 Data/Power Jumper TROUBLESHOOTING ! ! ! Always re-check “failed” results. A meter that is improperly set or connected can display unusual readings and lead to failed testing. 1. An abraded or “folded” cable inside the conduit will cause a short to earth ground. 2. Other low-/high-voltage wires touching devices on a bus will cause continuity to earth ground. T he Bus-Splitting Technique is the fastest way to find a bad cable and/or damaged device. Be sure to document the cable path. Use the Bus-Splitting Technique to find the problem. Terminator Troubleshooting Cat. 5 cables that pass a Local Aera Network (LAN) cable test can still short or break from stress and strain during installation. 1. Ensure that the Data/Power Jumper is removed. 2. Visually inspect both terminators are present and properly seated on each bus-end device. If re-testing a suspected cable, wiggle and tug on the conductors near the RJ45 connector while keeping an eye on the LAN tester—conductors should remain engaged during the testing. NOTE: Refer to the Quick-Start Guide or the Making Up Cat. 5 Cable With RJ45 Connections Manual on running low-voltage cables across, or parallel to, line-voltage cables or exposing low-voltage cables to EMF or RF sources (e.g. welders, ballasts, improperly grounded wireless devices, etc.); any of which can interfere with the bus operation and stability. Continuity Test Troubleshooting 1. Fluctuating resistance readings indicate one or more active devices that are still “hot.” De-power all of the devices and re-test. A digital device can also become damaged and create signal noise. An oscilloscope can also be used to locate the source of the bus failure. 2. High resistance readings indicate broken or resistive connections. The following are just some of the scenarios that may cause this problem: • R J45 connectors that are not properly seated with a “click” in the sockets • R J45 connectors improperly crimped (bowed, wires extended beyond the end of the connector) • C able strain breaking or pulling conductors out of RJ45 contacts (visually inspect cable and connector) • Damaged device • Dirt or paint in RJ45 sockets or on connectors • Bad Data/Power Jumper For assistance in troubleshooting any of the above scenarios, refer to the Bus-Splitting Technique later in this checklist. NOTE: Complete the Continuity Test after the problem has been resolved. Short Circuit Test Troubleshooting 1. A low-resistance reading indicates a crossed or shorted pair or a damaged device. Cable strain when pushing switches into a wall can short circuit nicked conductors. Use the Bus-Splitting Technique to find the bad cable, crimp or device. Important Note: 2. Resistance readings below 300Ω on A-B indicate an extra terminator. Use the Bus-Splitting Technique to find the short or extra terminator. If you need help or if you get stuck, contact Tech Support at 800-345-4448. NOTE: After the problem has been resolved, please complete the Continuity Test. Earth Ground Troubleshooting LAN-tested cables can still have paths to earth ground. 128 TROUBLESHOOTING (cont’d) Bus-Splitting Technique ! To speed up troubleshooting when readings are less than 200Ω on the Continuity Test or Short-Circuit Test, refer to the Continuity Test Results Chart earlier in this checklist before splitting the bus. This can provide an approximate distance to a shorted pair or extra terminator from the test point. 1. On the middle device of the bus, disconnect one Cat. 5 cable to create two smaller “half buses.” 2. Test each “half bus” to find the side with out-of-range values. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the out-of-range “half bus” to create another “half bus” until the cable, crimp or device creating the out-of-range measurement is located. The idea is to split a bus in half and then half again— over and over until the bad area has been located. Visual inspection can also be used. The MetaServer™ digital web server is a gateway that provides Internet or computer access to these devices. Here’s how they work: Up to 127 digital addresses (relay panels, digital switches, etc) may be linked together within a GR 2400 digital bus. Except for the largest projects, this proves to be more than enough capacity. For larger installations where multiple buses are needed to accommodate the large number of digital devices, LC&D has developed a BackBone Bus using the UpLink™ card and MetaServer™ to link up to 99 GR 2400 buses together. At the head of the BackBone Bus is a MetaServer that does the duty of connecting the whole system via ethernet to a computer or the internet. Connecting each digital bus to the BackBone Bus is an UpLink card. It captures packets meant for that particular bus and routes the data correctly. The UpLink card has a large memory capacity which acts as a mirror of the status of the GR 2400 bus for more rapid communication. It also keeps logs of the number of times a relay has been operated, the time it has been ON since last reset and a log of each event (see DataLogger™ tech sheet for more information). Features: • • • • • An almost unlimited number of commands may move from one digital bus to another. Switches from one GR 2400 bus may control all relays, dimmers, scenes, groups, or SmartBreakers in other downstream busses with full feedback. Run-time and event-logging are stored in Flash memory until downloaded by an administrator (see tech sheet for DataLogger software) Connect as many as 99 UpLink cards to the internet Access multiple buses using Unity GX Advanced Graphical Software The MetaServer requires only a single IP and provides complete access to one or multiple buildings Specifications: Enclosure dimensions: 8.375" w x 8.375" h x 3.125" d Ambient temperature: 32–105° F (0–41° C) Enclosure type: Surface mount NEMA 1, flush mount optional Optional enclosure: NEMA 4 147 Power supply: 120/277VAC (DV) or 347VAC Programming: via PC (with administrator access) Approvals: UL and cUL listed ACCESSORIES & LINK-TO CARDS Hook up / Programming Hub BackBone Bus Server Card Internet GR 2400 Remote Panel GR 2400 Master Panel BackBone Bus MicroPanel Chelsea DigitalSwitch Uplink Card GR 2400 Remote Panel GR 2400 Master Panel Chelsea DigitalSwitch Uplink Card Smart Breaker Panel SmartBreaker Panel MicroPanel Note: MetaServer • 1 per system, UpLink • 1 per bus ordering logic MetaServer™ and UpLink™ System and Type Transformer GR2400 UH4 = UpLink GR2400 SH4MOD = MetaServer with modem DV = Dual voltage 120/277V 347 = 347 volt Mount and Enclosure Type SM NE1 = Surface mount, NEMA 1 FM NE1 = Flush mount, NEMA 1 SM NE4 = Surface mount, NEMA 4 Lighting Control & Design • Glendale, CA Phone (323) 226-0000 • F (323) 226-1000 • Sales Hot Line (800) 345-4448 • sales@lightingcontrols.com • www.lightingcontrols.com © 2010 Acuity Brands Lighting, All Rights Reserved. 148 CONTROL PANELS GR 2400-i ™ C o n t ro l P a n e l Micro Panel™ Description: The MicroPanel™ comes standard equipped with four relays (MicroPanel-4) and provides integration features simply not available anywhere else; particularly the advanced daylight harvesting properties. In its extended version it is a compact lighting controller with up to eight switching (iDH) and four 0–10V dimming (iDim) outputs that links every room into one digital, easy-to-use system. The MicroPanel-8 (with eight relays) provides eight switched outputs, four of which can be dimmed outputs using a single control card. It is the ideal solution for applications requiring more than four switch legs per classroom. Example: “a, b, c” lighting with dimming, a leg for presentation lighting over a white board, emergency lighting, and a contact closure for the thermostat. For applications that require more than four (0–10V) dimming outputs, a second control card may be added. With proper installation, expensive on-site commissioning can be eliminated. Commissioning can be accomplished remotely (via dial-up or internet) from the factory. The MicroPanel-iDH and -iDim solve this with our 100% digital lighting control system. Any adjustments (e.g., to adapt to interior design changes) can be made with a phone call. Adjustments can be made with a phone call Unprecedented Daylight Harvesting Response Curve. Individually set three points on the response curve, start dim level, mid-point and turn off or end point. This is a major breakthrough in daylight harvesting, as almost any architectural setting can be compensated for after photosensor placement. Fade Rates. Separate raise and lower fade rates (0 seconds to 100 minutes) in response to the photosensor helps accommodate human eye response. 0v Daylight Levels Occupants offered a degree of control are less likely to disable the system. Trim. Individual trim levels may be set for each dimmer to compensate for manufacturers’ ballast response (for example, 2–8V instead of 0–10V). Bright 12 Scenes. Accommodate daylight harvesting presets for seasonal changes or fixed level presets for architectural dimming. "Must Turn On" Level. A light level below which electric lighting is switched on with no time delay (but with the proper fade rate). Sometimes required when blinds are closed or dark clouds pass overhead. 0v Trim Dimming Output stop dim 10v Night Time Delay. Prevents nuisance cycling. Adjust from 0 seconds to 99 minutes. 0v mid-point 5v Baseline. If room occupants feel the automatic settings are too bright or too dim, they can adjust the baseline with an optional slider switch. The adjustment range of the slider can be set remotely. Dimming Output Dimming Output start dim Local Override. Room occupants may temporarily override automatic lighting levels. Even operates with inexpensive (3-way) low voltage wall switches. Night mid-point start dim Trim 10v stop dim 10v Daylight Levels 150 Bright Night Daylight Levels Bright Multi-Zone Dimming & Switching The really big news is the ability of the MicroPanel to control multiple daylight harvesting zones (dimming or switching) with a single (local or global) photosensor. Each dimmer (or relay) may have its own dimming curve appropriate to its location in the room. These multiple dimming curves are ideal for open loop or closed loop daylight harvesting. No matter what the exposure may be (north, south, east or west), the right curve can be precisely set for any architectural setting. 0v -iPCPCELL 3WI TZ photosensor Row 1 Dimming Output -iDim Row 1 Row 2 Row 3 Row 2 5v Row 3 10v Glazing Daylight Levels Night Bright Local & Global Photosensors LC&D clients are used to having local and global switches, occupancy sensors and programming.
