Hunt Security Systems Inc. Fire Alarm Monitoring Hunt Security Systems Incorporated 1-888-248-4868 We monitor our clients through five ULC stations across Canada: Simultaneously *****Vancouver – Toronto – Ottawa – Montreal – Quebec City***** IMPORTANT INFORMATION SINGLE OR DUAL PATHWAY SIGNAL TRANSMISSION Standards: Standards for fire alarm systems and signal transmission are determined by several different authorities, testing agencies and governing regulatory agencies including: B.C. Building Code, Underwriters Laboratories of Canada and the National Fire Protection Agency (N.F.P.A.). Currently, most recognize U.L.C. as the standard by which all fire alarm systems and signal transmission is governed in Canada. It should be noted that these standards can be waived by the “Authority Having Jurisdiction” such as a city Bylaw or the Chief of the local Fire Department such as in the case of Prince George B.C. However, this is the exception rather than the rule. Most insurance companies require that ULC listed and rated fire communicators are used to report fire signals from apartments, hospitals, public facilities, commercial and industrial complexes. Some general rules to determine if you are required to have your fire alarm monitored are: occupancy over 200, residential hospitals housing physically or mentally handicapped persons, buildings and apartments over three floors above grade, schools etc. For more information, please consult the B.C. Building Code. In order to meet ULC standards and new Fire Code Regulations the fire alarm communicator attached to the fire alarm panel must be listed and approved for its intended purpose and must use two different paths of communication to transmit fire and trouble signals to a ULC listed monitoring station. This can be any combination of two of the following: (Dedicated) Telephone line, GSM radio, TCP/IP internet communicator. Hunt Security Systems Inc recommends a communicator that sends the signals over a regular phone line and through a GSM radio. This is called a Dual Path Fire Communicator and is ULC listed and rated to meet all fire codes. If cellular service is not available, but DSL or ADSL service is, then an IP (internet communicator) can also be used. Many security companies only quote the lower price of a non-rated single path communicator found in a regular security alarm system for monitoring a commercial fire alarm panel. This is only acceptable if cellular communications and ADSL or DSL is not available, and then only with written permission from the Authority Having Jurisdiction. Hunt Security Systems Inc does not recommend a single path communicator for monitoring a commercial fire alarm panel or fire suppression system and strongly recommends that you check with your insurance provider and the AHJ before making this choice. Integrating Fire and Security Together……………Properly! The Honeywell Vista32FB is a 32 zone, dual partition, dual pathway, 75 user combination Fire and Burglary control communicator. It can easily replace your existing burglary alarm control panel in most small to medium size installations to combine or integrate the two systems together. This reduces monitoring costs by eliminating the necessity for two separate account numbers and upgrades your burglary to dual pathway reporting security. For the larger installations, the Vista128BP and the Vista250BP (128 and 250 zone, 150 user capacity) eight partition dual pathway panels will replace virtually any product on the market. Through panel linking technology, up to 2500 zones, 80 partitions and 2500 users are possible. These panels also incorporate access control capabilities providing more integration possibilities than ever before.
