The foundation course will provide the chance to explore the breadth and diversity of this creative sector. Along the way you will be encouraged to study a wide range of working methodologies, allowing you to make an informed choice about which specialist career pathway to take. This is the preferred progression route to Higher Education Art & Design specialised study and the course has an excellent track record of placing students at prestigious universities and art colleges throughout the UK. Course content: On this course you will study: (Level 3) • Integrated Art & Design research, Ideas and Methods • Preparation and Progression in Art and Design • Project Proposal and Realisation in Art & Design (Level 4) • Final Major Project in Art and Design The course provides different strategies for generating ideas and explores the different contexts of art and design practice. This enables students to identify their strengths and see how their works sits within the areas of Fine Art, 3D, Graphics, Illustration, Fashion or Textiles. Students will need to undertake research into artists and designers to aid their own development. They will also undertake a written assignment that will develop their written, research and contextual skills. The latter part of the course will be project based and allow students to work in a more independent way establishing and developing their own visual language supported through tutorials, seminars and more specific technical inputs suiting individual needs. The tutors provide a wide range of professional expertise, skills and industrial experience as practising designers, artists and educators. Assessment: You will be assessed three times. This will correspond to the three stages of the course, exploratory, pathway and confirmatory. Initially you will be assessed on your ability to work independently to a brief and this when you apply for the course. There should be sufficient evidence in your portfolio that you have passed the exploratory stage criteria. You will be assessed using continual assessment of progress through peer review, 1:2:1 tutorial and receive three formal assessments of portfolio evidenced based work throughout the year Awarding Body: Edexcel Entry Requirements: Students will be 19+ and will have successfully completed Art & Design Foundation Studies - Exploratory Year, or a Subsidiary Diploma/National Diploma in Art & Design. You will be asked questions about your own work and the work of other artists and designers that relate to your practice. Progression and links: The course facilitates progression onto higher education. The majority of our students want to go onto a degree or a Foundation degree and we have a very good track record of students progressing onto good H.E. courses. Students are given considerable support in preparing their portfolios and helping them make the right decision. In a few instances some Part-time foundation students have progressed onto MA courses. For those students not wanting to go into HE there will also be guidance on: professional practice, arts council funding setting up galleries and applying to competitions and exhibitions.
