INTRODUCTION
The I-SEM1 Technical Specification (ITS) comprises a number of volumes to assist Market
Participants in building their systems to interface with the I-SEM Systems.
This release (Release 2) of the ITS focuses on information related to the systems and services to
be used to interact with the Balancing Market, Day-Ahead and Intraday Markets, as set out in
Table 1.

3.1
VOLUME A: OVERARCHING
The overarching volume of the ITS contains an introduction to the I-SEM Technical Specification
and outlines:
the content of each constituent volume of the ITS;
the document naming convention for ITS volumes;
how releases of the ITS will align with releases of the I-SEM Systems (once implemented);
and
how the ITS is distributed and how queries in relation to the ITS can be raised.
3.2
VOLUME B: TECHNICAL
Volume B of the ITS covers the technical aspects of interfaces provided for Market Participants to
communicate with the I-SEM Systems in relation to communication via Type 2 or Type 3
Communication Channels, i.e. submission and retrieval of I-SEM Data Transactions via
- Online transaction (Graphical User Interface);
- Computer based mechanisms such as web services or API (Application Programming
Interfaces).

VOLUME D: NEMO EX-ANTE MARKETS

support the understanding of the content presented in the volumes of the I-SEM Technical
Specification.
Important Note: the definitions presented in Volume G of the ITS are focused on assisting the
understanding of the ITS content and are not legally robust definitions. Participants should refer to
the relevant rules in order to consider the legal definitions of defined terms.
3.6
METER DATA PROVIDER FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
ITS Release 2 contains an update to the version of the MDP Functional Description document
that was released in Release 1 of the ITS on 3 June 2016 (noting that the document contains
information required by Meter Data Providers to build systems in relation to the provision of Meter
Data to support I-SEM operations). The updates to the document as included in ITS Release 2
