Science Congress - 2016 The Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (APAS) has been organizing annually the ''Andhra Pradesh Science Congress'' with the main objective of promoting interaction between and across the scientific community from various disciplines at national and international level, besides popularizing science among teachers and students. The first A.P. Science Congress (after the bifurcation of the combined Andhra Pradesh State) was held at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati during January 27 - 29, 2016 in association with Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam Tirupati under the focal theme "Science for Smart Technologies". The first A.P. State Science Congress was inaugurated by Sri. N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and was attended by eminent scientists. The scientific deliberations were held in 5 five major scientific sessions, becides special theme sessions, S&T Exhibition with an exclusive session for school children. Eminent Scientists of National and International repute delivered distinguished lectures. Coinciding with the Birth day celebrations of Sir C.V. Raman & Mary Curie, the second A.P. Science Congress will be held during 7 - 9, November 2016, in association with Dr. NTR University of Health Scienes, Acharya Nagarjuna University and Krishna University at vijayawada - located in Amaravathi - the Capital City in the new State of Andhra Pradesh. This Sciences Congress will provide a platform to young scientists and research students to have scientific discussions and interaction with senior scientists. There will be contributed papers which will be presented in the form of both oral and posters. About the Host Institutes The ''Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences'' (APAS), came into existence with the initiative of the great visionary Sri P.V.G. Raju, the then Education Minister, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, who mooted the formation of a forum for all scientists and researchers in the state. Thus, the ''Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences'' (APAS), founded in 1963, comprises Distinguished Scientists, APAS Engineers, Technologists including Medical fraternity covering the entire spectrum of Science and Technology disciplines. The aims and objectives of the Akademi are mainly the advancement of science in Andhra Pradesh by providing a forum for discussing scientific developments, propagating scientific knowledge among the people and publication of books and Journals on Science. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014, enacted by the Indian Parliament, proclaimed the bifurcation of the Andhra Pradesh state into two states viz., Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Consequent to this act, the A.P. Akademi of Sciences registered earlier under No: 552 of 1974, under the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana Area) Public Societies Registration Act, 1350 Fasli (Act. 1 of 1350 F), is also bifurcated into Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (APAS) and Telangana Academy of Sciences (TAS). The General body elected the New Executive Council to A.P. Akademi of Sciences, which started functioning independently with effect from 30th April, 2015, at the space provided by Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. 2 Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences formerly Andhra Pradesh University of Health Sciences, is a public university in the city of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. The university was established as University of Health Sciences by the government of Andhra Pradesh and was inaugurated on 9 April by N.T. Rama Rao, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. It started functioning on 1 November 1986. The university has graduate and postgraduate degrees, diploma and super-specialty courses in modern medicine; graduate and postgraduate degree courses in Dental Surgery, Nursing, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani; graduate degree courses in Naturopathy, Physiotherapy and Medical Laboratory Technology, and a postgraduate course in M.Sc. Applied Nutrition. The number of colleges affiliated to the university from the time of its establishment, has risen from 27 to 184. The degrees awarded by the university are recognized by statutory bodies including the Medical Council of India, the Dental Council of India, the Central Council of Indian Medicine, the Central Council of Homoeopathy and the Indian Nursing Council. Acharya Nagarjuna University Acharya Nagarjuna University, an affiliating University established by Act 43 of 1976 of A.P. State Ligislature started with 10 post-graduate courses in the year 1976, in the University College. Since then, it has achieved tremendous progress and at present offers post-graduate education in 54 courses (46 on the University campus, and 8 at University PG Campus at Ongole) besides many Post-graduate courses in affiliated colleges. It is now having nearly 320 affiliated colleges offering Under-Graduate in Post-Graduate Engineering, Education, Law, Pharmacy and Oriental Languages courses. It has 46 Post-graduate teaching-cum-research courses on the campus, while 71 affiliated colleges offered P.G. courses. University has also started admission to International students in all P.G, Engineering and Pharmacy courses. Krishna University Krishna University was established by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh at Machilipatnam, the head quarters of Krishna district, in 2008. This University caters to the needs of the students of Krishna district aspiring for higher education with 162 (UG & PG) Colleges affiliated to Krishna University. At present the University is located in the premises of Andhra Jatheeya Kalasala in Machilipatnam.
