Whereas, chief executive of Fulton Homes, Ira A. Fulton, has shown
exceptional commitment to and support of the College of Engineering and
Applied Sciences at Arizona State University through his gift of fifty
million dollars. His benevolent donation will boost the school’s standing in
the state and in the national and international communities, and in honor of
his outstanding contribution, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences
will be renamed the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering; and
Whereas, Ira Fulton and his wife, Mary Lou, have a distinguished
history of supporting educational and philanthropic endeavors in Arizona and
Utah. Since 1999, they have donated fifty million dollars to Brigham Young
University in Provo, Utah, and last year they donated an additional five
million dollars to Arizona State University’s College of Education. They
also have funded scholarship programs for Native American and Hispanic
students and have sponsored programs for various local charities and water
safety programs; and
Whereas, Ira Fulton’s tremendous support of Arizona State University’s
College of Engineering and Applied Sciences will benefit the university as
well as Phoenix and the State of Arizona for years to come. The endowment
will provide funds for scholarships, fellowships, research programs and more
faculty, making Arizona more attractive to industry and helping to foster
positive economic growth for the state.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona, the House of
Representatives concurring:
1. That the Members of the Legislature honor Ira A. Fulton for his
exceptional gift to Arizona State University’s College of Engineering and
Applied Sciences and for his tremendous support of the university, the
Phoenix community and the State of Arizona.
2. That the Secretary of State of the State of Arizona transmit copies
of this Resolution to Ira A. Fulton, to the President of Arizona State
University and to the news media of Arizona.
