Over the past 60 years, we have applied our tooling and
expertise to recondition over 25,000 crankshafts
worldwide, as well as countless other rotating journals
and shafting.
As the first company in the world to complete in-place
crankshaft grinding in the early 1950s, Goltens’ tooling
patents revolutionized the industry with massive
reductions in downtime for owners.
Continuous R&D and field trials have given us the best
tooling for crankshaft/ journal machining in the industry.
This allows us to perform large-scale jobs in a fraction of
the time of traditional grinding, often with a single cut
fillet to fillet with the highest tolerances. We apply our
technology to challenges in the marine, industrial,
stationary power and offshore sectors.

Crankshaft/ Journal Annealing
Class Approval
Over the past 5 years, Goltens stations around the
world have successfully annealed over 75 crankshafts, saving
customers tens of millions of dollars in unnecessary
crankshaft purchases, major engine rebuilds, as well as
countless days of lost operational capacity.
• Goltens has undertaken extensive workshop trials with
Class Society and select OEM involvement and subsequent
metallurgical analysis to demonstrate the results of the
process.
• Goltens has received job specific approvals for In-situ
annealing of marine crankshafts from several Class
Societies
Loss of a crankshaft or any rotating shaft due to high
hardness values is a costly, time consuming, and extremely
disruptive occurrence. As the market leader in In-Situ
crankshaft repairs, we encounter many crankshafts with areas
of excessive hardness each year.
Goltens Advantages
Excessive hardness can often be machined away by
Goltens’ In-Situ teams, provided that there is sufficient
remaining material to remain within manufacturer’s maximum
allowable undersize. However, when this is not possible, the
only remaining options are either to scrap the crankshaft, or
remove hardness by annealing.

annealing crankshafts and other shafting, and can do this

world. Our deep understanding of the metallurgy, expansion
characteristics, and safety Precautions, has been developed and
refined over the years, to create a safe, repeatable, highly
controlled process.

successfully removed and that minor finish grinding/cutting can
restore the machinery to service with significantly less loss of

severe that the engine pockets have been damaged and
the engine requires line boring. We have invested

Goltens offers a range of high-quality epoxy-based
repair compounds and coatings, as well as pipe and
exhaust repair products suitable for a wide range of
applications.
To keep usage at a minimum and ensure value for
money, Wencon provides only a few products that
cover a wide range of repairs.
Using the Wencon Repair System, you can do repairs
and maintenance jobs everywhere on your vessel.
Plastic steel has the advantage that it cannot
corrode, you can apply it anywhere and after curing
it can be machined just like metal.
All the products are top quality and have a high
specific volume and simple mixing ratio (1:1 and 1:2).
All Wencon standard products have an excellent
adhesion to all materials, except soft plastic.
