Applications Expertise Behind Every Exciter
There’s more to using and buying
MODAL Exciters than meets the
eye. Misjudging MODAL testing
applications can be fraught with
unforeseen hazards that contaminate data. Miscalculating hidden
costs can be risky. Have a look at
key specs of each model and find the
exciter that is right for you.
MODAL 50A
#1 selling MODAL exciter in the
world! the MODAL 50 was designed
by a team of MODAL testers including University of Cincinnati professors. It delivers 50 lbs (220N) of force
and 1.0” (25mm) of stroke pk-pk.
MODAL 110
The “baby” of the MB MODAL family, this Exciter has significant size
advantages over larger models when
testing in compact areas.
Long stroke, light moving element
mass, low longitudinal stiffness.
Delivers 110lbs (500N) of force and
1.5” (38mm) of stroke pk-pk. Has
twice the force and 50% more stroke
than the MODAL 50.

MODAL 250
MODAL 2
This model is literally 1/2 MODAL
50; it has half the magnets, half the
force, half the weight. The MODAL
25 delivers 25 lbs (110N) of force
and 1.0” (25mm) of stroke pk-pk.

Delivers 25 lbs force (110N) and 1.0” (25mm) stroke pk-pk. Has all the
features that make MB MODAL Exciters worldwide best sellers, including the armature thru-hole. It’s literally half a MODAL 50: half the
magnets, half the force and half its weight. The MB EM Chuck System
combines an electromagnet, a special chuck, and electronic hardware
to allow remote on/off stinger engagement for the MODAL 25.

The #1 selling MODAL 50 along with MB’s MODAL applications expertise has revolutionized MODAL testing.
This Exciter was designed by a team of world-respected MODAL testers, including University of Cincinnati professors, to eliminate problems encountered when using traditional shakers for MODAL tests. The MODAL 50
slashes setup time to a minimum! Conveniences in fixturing and setup like the clearance hole through the armature and shaker and a collet chuck for gripping a threadless stinger make easy the attachment of the MODAL 50
to a test structure. 50 pounds dynamic force from an Exciter weighing little more than 50 lbs makes it portable
and easy to setup by one person.
• Clearance hole through armature and shaker allows unlimited
positioning along the axis of the stinger
• Collet chuck with clearance hole through armature and shaker
provides easy attachment of “one size fits all” stinger
• Piano wire minimizes cross-axis measurement errors; large static
force can be applied without derating 50 lb dynamic force
• Quick disconnect turnbuckles easily adjust suspension,
6 dof positioning
• Lightweight shaker, easy-mount inertial masses/accessories allows
one-man setup and portability to remote locations
• Trunnion base with two hand-knobs and three screw feet allow
adjustment to virtually any excitation angle
• Quick connect/disconnect of additional mass supplies large inertial
restraint for low frequency tests
Universal: No Need for 2 lbs Force or 6” Stroke Shakers
• 1” stroke is sufficient for flexible structures and low frequency
suspended shaker tests
• 50 lbs dynamic force - enough for large test articles such as mid- to full-size automobile
• Lightweight armature (<0.4 lb) enables testing small items
• Broad usable frequency range (1-4000 Hz) handles almost every MODAL survey
• Ideal for multi-shaker random, single-point random, multi-point sine dwell, and even burst random
• Additionally, MB’s EM CHUCK SYSTEM has revolutionized MODAL testing by combining an
electromagnet, a special chuck, and electronic hardware to allow remote on/off stinger engagement
Stroke: 1” peak-peak (continuous duty); 1.1” between stops
Force Output:
• Convection Cooling: 25 pounds (peak)
• Shop Air by User: 50 pounds (peak)
• Portable Cooling: 50 pounds (peak) optional
Stinger Attachments: Chuck and assortment of collets handles wire sizes from .020” to .125”
Shaker Attachments: Floor: adjustable trunnion base & screw feet. Suspended: multiple turnbuckles
Test Specimen Static Pre-Load: Capable of tensioning stinger in excess of 50 pounds
Weight: Shaker with trunnion base: 55 pounds
Bounce Mode of Large Inertial Configuration on Armature Suspension: Approx. 1 Hz
Dimensions: 11 ½” H (to top of collet chuck with feet retracted) 7 ½” x 9 ¼” footprint
Drive Cable Lenghth: 30’ standard (100’ cable available as option)
