People credited with this unit standard are able to: explain long-term management requirements for an emergency care situation in an outdoor recreation environment, and assess and manage a patient’s condition long-term in an outdoor recreation environment. Prerequisite: 6400 (manage first aid in emergency situations, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills). Instructors will site summary reporting form/ first aid certificate before the course starts. All question and tasks will be related to the candidate’s discipline in the outdoor environment relevant to the candidate’s profession or recreation. The assessment tasks for this unit standard are in three parts. Some evidence for task 1 and 3 may be gathered during task 2. TASK 1 - Written Assignment Written assignment must be completed before Task 2/3. All answers must be in-line with the model answers of Triple One Care and/or New Zealand Outdoor First Aid: New Zealand Mountain Safety Council Manual 2004. You MUST answers all questions as fully as possible. If you need assistance with the written component of the tasks please ask the instructor. Your assessor may ask you questions after you have completed the assignment to confirm understanding of what you have written or demonstrated. TASK 2 - FIELD DEMONSTRATION OF PRACTICAL SKILLS This is a scenario based practical assessment. You must complete all actions correctly in the assessment checklists. Your instructor may require you to demonstrate specific first aid management for the given environment/activity. The practical will take place in an outdoor recreation environment.
