IT IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT THAT THE FAN, LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT, IS NOT OBSTRUCTED. To operate properly, the unit requires ample air circulation. Do not mount the unit in a cabinet or other enclosure. NEVER TOUCH THE UNIT WHEN IT IS TURNED ON. If you wish to add or change accessories, replace the GOBO or replace the lamp, wait at least 15 Minutes after the unit has been turned off. DO NOT OPEN THE UNIT, EXCEPT TO REPLACE THE LAMP (See special instructions "REPLACING THE LAMP"). There are no serviceable parts inside. To replace the thermal fuse, please consult a licensed electrician or return the unit to DERKSEN (USA), INC. for repair by first requesting a "Return Authorization Code". Preparing for the Installation For your personal safety and the safety of others, please have a qualified electrician install the system. The unit uses a special 150W metal halide discharge lamp and operates at 120V AC. Plug the power cord into a standard 120V 60Hz AC outlet. DO NOT ATTACH the unit to a switched circuit equipped with a dimmer switch. The unit weighs approximately 18 pounds, excluding optional accessories. Make sure that the wall, ceiling, pipe and/or bracket you are using, can support at least 40 pounds. Ensure that all accessories are properly secured to prevent any from falling off. If necessary, use nylon or cable ties to secure the lens holder and/or any accessories. Follow the suggested sequence below to ensure a smooth installation and operation: • • • • • • • Decide on how you wish to use the unit and where it should be placed. Take great care when handling the unit. The optics inside, the lenses, and any accessories mounted on the two accessory rods have been factory-adjusted to provide a sharp rendering of the projected image. NEVER use the accessory rods to lift the unit or adjust its position. A minor misalignment can cause optical distortions. Insert the GOBO (a chrome-coated glass slide or a film negative slide) into the provided gate in front of the light source. This may take a little effort, because the GOBO is held in place by two clips. ONLY INSERT A GOBO OR USE ACCESSORIES DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS UNIT. Attach the accessories needed to achieve your display results. Please read the instructions pertaining to each accessory you plan to use. Connect any motorized accessories (not more than two at one time) to the RCA-type jacks provided on the back plate of the housing. DO NOT BLOCK THE FAN OR ANY VENTS! Turn the unit on using the toggle switch on the back plate of the housing. If the unit does not turn on, check if it is attached to a circuit that is controlled by a wall switch. 3 • • Direct the light beam to the desired area and focus the image by loosening the screw on the lens bridge and move the lens either forward or backward on the two accessory rods until you obtain a razor-sharp image. Adjust the projected image size by moving the unit further away (making the image larger) or by moving the unit closer to the projection area (making the image smaller). You could also use the specialty lenses to adjust the size of the image (please see Image Size Chart). Final Installation (permanent or semi-permanent) Once you are satisfied with the location of the image, unit and performance of the accessories, ask a qualified electrician/installer to mount and connect the unit permanently. Brackets, especially designed for this unit, are available for a variety of installations. Please contact your dealer or DERKSEN (USA), INC. for more information. Install the unit in a convenient, well ventilated place. It is recommended that the unit be connected to a switched circuit, especially, if the unit is out of reach and the toggle switch (on/off) at the back of the unit is not easily accessible. Operation Turn the unit on by using the toggle switch on the back plate (position I). If the unit is connected to a switched circuit, make sure the wall switch is also turned on. When the unit is not in use, turn the power off to conserve energy and to extend the life of the lamp. The average life of the lamp is rated at 6,000 hours. Replacing the Lamp Turn unit off. This unit uses a high intensity discharge lamp (Type Philips Mastercolour CDM150) which has no filament, found in regular light bulbs. Instead of "burning out" suddenly, this lamp gradually loses brightness and the light takes on a blue tint. When this occurs, after approximately 6,000 hours of use, the lamp should be replaced. For maximum safety and optimal performance, the following precautions should be adhered to: Ask a qualified electrician or otherwise suitable person to replace the lamp and have them follow these instructions: TURN THE UNIT OFF OR DISCONNECT IT FROM MAIN POWER AND WAIT UNTIL THE UNIT HAS COOLED DOWN BEFORE OPENING THE COVER. Open the lamp cover at the top of the unit by loosening the screw (a screwdriver is not required). Open the latch and make sure that the lamp is cold. The lamp works under pressure and can shatter if not properly cooled. The risk of explosion increases as the lamp reaches the end of its life cycle. It should, therefore, not be used longer than is specified. Now, you are ready to install the replacement lamp. Be sure to use only a Philips Mastercolour CDM150 type. If the outer bulb of the lamp is broken or scratched, do not use it. DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS OF THE NEW LAMP. Hold the lamp with a cloth or in its wrapper and insert it firmly into the socket. Replace the lid and tighten the screw. 4 Replacing the Fuse Turn unit off. This unit has two serviceable fuses. The main power fuse, located next to the toggle switch on the back panel is rated at 3.15 Amps (250 Volt - 5 x 20 mm, slow blowing). The other fuse protects the accessory jacks. It is rated at 0.5 Amp (250 Volt - 5 x 20 mm, slow blowing). To remove a tripped fuse, turn the black fuse cover counter clockwise and replace the fuse with one of the same type. Cleaning the Unit Clean the lenses ONLY with lens cleaning tissue, available from your local camera dealer. The housing may be cleaned with a dry soft cloth. Do not use any type of solvent, such as alcohol or benzene, which might damage the finish. We also recommend using compressed air in a can (“Dust Remover Spray”) to blow the dust build up from the fan and / or lenses. Shipping If you have to ship the unit, it is recommended that the unit and accessories be wrapped individually in cushioned packing material, i.e. bubble wrap, foam, etc. NOTE: Please pay special attention to protecting the focusing rods. Attaching Accessories Please refer to the Installation and Operating Instructions for Optional Accessories before attaching any accessories. 5
