What you may be experiencing are micro-aggressions or micro-inequities. These experiences can occur in one-on-one interactions or in group settings. The effects can and do impact your career, both when they occur and due to their accumulation over time. After defining these terms, we will discuss how to identify them in order to increase your awareness, along with methods to positively deal with them. 10:00 – 11:00am: Workshop 2: Conflict Management Uelner Executive Boardroom Barb Hunt & Lin Chape, Vermeer Have you ever had a conflict with someone and wished afterwards that you could have handled it better? Conflict comes about from differences - in needs, values and motivations. Conflict is not a problem in itself - it is what we do with it that counts. Conflict management builds stronger and more cohesive organizations and more rewarding relationships, enabling personal differences to be bypassed and new possibilities to be opened up. 11:10am – 12:10pm: Lean-In South Ballroom, All students attend. Elizabeth Ray, Reetika Bhandari, Monica Dunbar, Rachel Kovach, Paige Martino, Rockwell Collins The Rockwell Collins team will share what they have done to support women new to the company and how they encourage female employees to take leadership roles. Imagine that you are a new hire in a large company. How do you ask those questions that can be perceived from the double standard viewpoint? For example, if a man asks the question, he’s ambitious, but if a woman asks the question, she’s an upstart. In the peer mentoring circle, those questions get answered with candor - and humor. 12:10 – 12:50pm: Lunch Cy’s Lounge (Food) & South Ballroom (Seating) 1:00 – 2:00pm: Breakout Sessions: Panels Snow Owl Panel: Uelner Executive Boardroom Colleen Becker, Rockwell Collins; Sarah Steffen, Halliburton; Janine McCormick, Emerson Process Management; Gayle Keys, John Deere; Dr. Kristen Constant, Iowa State University Barred Owl Panel: North Reiman Ballroom Jennifer Owens, Iowa State University; Rochelle Gilman, Hy-Vee; Dr. Carol Hendrick, Dupont Pioneer; Dawn Bailey, Iowa State University; Dr. Carol Heaverlo, Iowa State University 2:10 – 3:30pm: Speed Networking South Ballroom Table 1 - Sarah Steffen, Halliburton Table 2 - Lora Leigh Chrystal, Iowa State University Table 3 - Rochelle Gilman, Hy-Vee Table 4 - Dawn Bailey, Iowa State University Table 5 - Dr. Kristen Constant, Iowa State University Table 6 - Dr. Carol Hendrick, Dupont Pioneer Table 7 - Dr. Carol Heaverlo, Iowa State University Table 8 - Gayle Keys, John Deere Table 9 - Janine McCormick, Emerson Process Management Table 10 - Jennifer Owens, Iowa State University Table 11 - Colleen Becker, Rockwell Collins 3:30 – 3:45pm: Closing Remarks South Ballroom 4:00 – 5:30pm: FREE Bowling at MU (optional) Free parking at MU.
