This document should be used with the Metasys Integrator technical bulletins, which provide information on installing and commissioning the Metasys Integrator unit. For information on Emerson Control Techniques equipment, see Emerson Control Techniques documentation (obtainable from an Emerson Control Techniques representative). Note: If you use a Universal Packaging Module (UPM) enclosure, you must install the Metasys Integrator 300 Series in a two high enclosure (EN-EWC25-0) rather than a one high enclosure (EN-EWC13-0) as shown in the figures in this application note. Application Details The Metasys Integrator unit allows Emerson Affinity and Eclipse AC Drive Controls to become an integral part of the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks. Once the Emerson devices (and B & B Electronics RS-232 to RS-422 converter) are connected to a Metasys or Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator unit, Emerson AC Drive Controls data is accessible to the full complement of Metasys Building Automation System (BAS) features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, trend, and totalization. The Affinity drive is appropriate for Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) applications and can be integrated for monitoring and supplementary information. The Metasys Integrator unit supports monitoring of drive status, alarm conditions, total runtime, kWh cost, in addition to other points. For commands, the Metasys Integrator unit supports only the resetting of drive fault alarms and runtime values. For closed loop control, the speed and on/off status should be directly controlled by an Application Specific Controller (ASC). The Eclipse drive is appropriate for industrial applications and should be integrated only if the application does not require closed loop control. For commands, the Metasys Integrator unit supports the following: drive speed, reset runtime values, reset fault alarms, drive start, drive stop, jog, and direction (forward/reverse). Connect the RS-232 to RS-422 converter to the Metasys Integrator RS-232 port. Once connected, the converter is the interface between Emerson devices and non-Emerson devices (such as the Metasys Integrator unit). Metasys Integrator—Metasys Integrator Emerson Control Techniques Application 3 Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one converter. Each converter can connect up to 32 Emerson AC Drive Controls. The AC Drive Controls are connected in a daisy chain configuration. Figure 1 shows Emerson Eclipse AC Drive Controls integrated into a Metasys Network, and Figure 2 shows Emerson Affinity AC Drive Controls integrated into a Metasys Companion Network. Figure 2: Emerson Control Techniques and Metasys Companion Integration Metasys Integrator—Metasys Integrator Emerson Control Techniques Application 5 Component Requirements To integrate Emerson Control Techniques equipment, you need: • RS-232 to RS-422 converter (B & B Electronics product) • Emerson Eclipse or Affinity AC Drive Controls • for the Affinity application, application specific controllers that provide closed loop control. The controllers are hardwired to the AC Drive. • RS-232 cable for connecting the converter to the Metasys Integrator unit • Belden 8723 or equivalent RS-422 four wire cable for connecting the converter to AC Drives • Metasys Integrator unit • N2 Bus (for connecting the Metasys Integrator unit to the Metasys or Companion Network) • portable Personal Computer (PC) for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and network setup information into the Metasys Integrator unit, and for running diagnostics • cable for connecting portable PC to the Metasys Integrator unit • the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) to download into the Metasys Integrator unit (supplied on Metasys Integrator CD-ROM) This document describes the RS-232 and RS-422 cable and the vendor communication tables. Emerson Control Techniques documentation describes their equipment. The remaining components are described in the Metasys Integrator technical bulletins. Metasys Network Release Requirements Metasys Companion Release Requirements 6 To integrate Emerson Control Techniques equipment into the Metasys Network, you need: • Metasys Operator Workstation (OWS) software Release 4.0 or higher • Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 3.0 or higher To integrate Emerson Control Techniques equipment into the Metasys Companion Network, you need: • Metasys Companion Release 4.0 or higher • Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 3.0 or higher Metasys Integrator—Metasys Integrator Emerson Control Techniques Application Vendor Component Requirements Integration between the Metasys Integrator unit and Emerson Control Techniques has been tested with the equipment listed in Table 1. Changes to this equipment or integration of Emerson Control Techniques products not discussed in this document require additional software development and testing by Systems Products. For information on integrating other products, refer to the Custom Integration section in this document.
