Improve your access to North American markets
DEKRA and MET help manufacturers get certified
To sell electrical and electronic products in the United States and Canada your equipment must be appropriately certified. At DEKRA
we have an agreement with MET Laboratories to make this process as smooth and cost-effective as possible. MET is a leading
independent laboratory which tests to North American standards. Thanks to this agreement, MET can now use DEKRA test data,
saving you both time and money when submitting products for testing and certification.
Global reach
Our service portfolio
DEKRA and MET Laboratories have test laboratories in Europe,
the US, China, Korea and Taiwan. These facilities provide a wide
range of services, including product safety, EMC and ENERGY
STAR® testing. In 1988, MET became the first Nationally
Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) in the United States
authorized to test and certify products to UL safety standards.
Companies demonstrate compliance with U.S. and Canadian
standards by placing the MET Mark (cMETus) on their products.
Electrical safety and EMC
Testing and certification of electrical and electronic products.
MET is authorized to certify products in over 180 categories.
These include IT equipment, consumer products, products for
hazardous locations. Widely accepted mark
MET Laboratories and cMETus are recognized throughout the
U.S. and Canada by major retailers, government agencies, as well
as by states and other jurisdictions. The MET Mark demonstrates
to consumers, inspectors, and purchasing agents that products
comply with the applicable UL or Canadian standards.
ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR testing and certification of the energy efficiency
of a range of products such as TVs, computers, battery chargers,
telephony equipment and beverage vending machines.
Field Services
On-site testing and certification in the U.S. and Canada of
unlabelled equipment to prove to the local Authority Having
Jurisdiction (AHJ) that it meets all relevant requirements.
MET Field Evaluation
Our credentials
DEKRA offers the MET Field Evaluation service for electrical
machines, installations and other electrical equipment
manufactured in limited quantities and supplied to North
America. Our inspectors come to your production site to check
the installation, the components used, markings and the electrical
circuit diagrams. Final acceptance tests are then undertaken
under our supervision. If your product passes the tests, the
appropriate certification labels are affixed to it and you can ship
it to the United States or Canada. The final check by the local
inspector will then be limited to checking the correct installation
of the machine or panel.
The agreement between DEKRA and MET gives you improved
access to the North American market. But it does more, it also
saves you time and costs, as MET can use data from tests that
have already been carried out by DEKRA, thus avoiding the need
for duplicate testing.
MET Field Evaluation by DEKRA gives you a number of
important advantages: our project managers are experts in this
area, they are fully familiar with the criteria and they understand
your products. In a preliminary consultation we will inform
you about the procedure, the relevant regulations and specific
requirements for your application. We know the differences
between the European and North American requirements and
we can advise on non-conformities that require modifications of
your product. If you are properly prepared, testing for MET Field
Evaluation can be completed in one day.
