The total of notional hours are broken up into a variety of activities and specific times (hours) are allocated to each activity. Notional Hours Breakdown Classroom Activities Individual Activities • Refers to time learners spend with a facilitator in a guided learning environment • Requires the learners to do self-study and research independently. These activities are a combination of knowledge and skills and are designed to assist the learner with transferring knowledge and skills into the workplace Workplace Activities • Requires learner to apply skills in an actual workplace Assessment • Refers to activities where the learners completed classroom, individual and workplace activities are assessed by an Assessor Theory/practical split Out of total notional hours per Learning Unit: 30% of the total time is spend on classroom activities and coaching 70% of the total time is spend on Individual and Workplace Activities 2- 4 hours are allocated for Assessment per unit standard This means that allocated times might exceed the notional hours required by the registered qualification Exemption Individuals that are currently employed in the auctioneering industry can start the exemption compliance process with the South African Institute for Auctioneers (SAIA). Applicants will have to formally apply for:1. 2. 3. Exemption in terms of the SAIA NQF 4 Equivalency Matrix; If applicants do not qualify in terms of (1) above, then they will have to go through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Delegates will have to prove competency by means of a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) against the FETC: Auctioneering Support Services (NQF 4); If applicants do not qualify for either (1) or (2) above, they must enrol for the full training programme to complete the qualification over 12 months. Proof of SETA verification is essential. The credit value will depend on the actual unit standards that have been obtained for the FETC. Exemption process Application • The applicant sends copies of his/her completed qualifications with the statements of results to the custodian of the qualification for assessment.
