Services Life Enrichment Center
activities in two great locations:
ABOUT US
Since 1978, Fayette Senior Services, Inc., (FSS) an independent, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, has been providing a wide array of life -enriching services to Fayette County residents age 50 and better. Fayette
County, Georgia, is home to one of the fastest growing senior populations
in metro Atlanta – and the age 60+ population segment is projected to grow
an astonishing 450% by 2040. This statistic alone makes our mission — to
make a meaningful difference in the emotional, social, and physical wellbeing of older adults — all the more critical. By fostering independence,
improving quality of life, and enhancing the community connection, the
programs and services we provide are an essential part of our community.
Not-for-profit FSS enjoys a unique public/private partnership with Fayette County government. Through this agreement we provide a variety of
supportive services such as Meals On Wheels, Transportation, In-home
Personal Care/ Homemaker Services, Care Management, Information Assistance, and more. We could not do that without our government partners;
however, we believe it is our responsibility to complement the public support to ensure we can continue serving Fayette’s seniors for generations
to come. Therefore, we feel it’s important to note that less than half of our
revenue comes from sources other than federal, state, and local governments.
Fayette Senior Services is recognized as a model of sustainability and
social entrepreneurship among peer organizations and nongovernment
funders. Although we are proud of this recognition, we could not do all
that we do without the support from charitable donors, Center members,
volunteers, grantees, and the community that so generously supports our
fundraising efforts.
The aging transition can be paved with a broad spectrum of challenges.
However, it can also prove to be rich with opportunities. The key to “aging well” is knowledge. When it comes to addressing those unique needs,
Fayette Senior Services Life Enrichment Center is the one-stop shop for
empowering older adults to live well and age well.
Our Life Enrichment Center in Fayetteville is uniquely different from traditional senior centers. Our beautiful facility is a vibrant place where adults
age 50+ come to socialize with friends, enjoy a great meal in our Ultimate
café, re-energize their bodies, exercise their minds, and lift their spirits.
To make sure our programs and activities are within easy reach to more
seniors, we are proud to have established a community partnership with
the city of Peachtree City. We now offer many new programs and activities
in Peachtree City at the Gathering Place (next to “The Fred” Amphitheater)
and at our newest facility, McIntosh Place. We’re adding new classes and
activities each month during our expansion to PTC, so stay tuned for more!
We are proud to be making life better in our community.

When You Need a Little Help From Some Friends...
We offer supportive services that make a meaningful
difference in the emotional, social, and physical well
being of older adults by preserving their independence, improving their quality of life, and connecting
them to the community.
Meals On Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a needs-based program for
homebound, or semi-homebound, seniors who are
unable to provide themselves with regular nutritious
meals due to physical or financial challenges. The
service also connects homebound seniors to the
community through daily social contact, which also
helps to ensure their well-being.
Ani-Meals
To many homebound seniors, having a pet is a
source of companionship and comfort. The AniMeals™ program is designed to give our Meals On
Wheels clients a little help with the cost of pet food
to make sure that maintaining that important bond
isn’t an added burden.
STAR Program
(Seniors Together After Retirement)
Our STAR program (Seniors Together After Retirement) offers individuals 60 and older an opportunity to come together for socialization, recreational
activities, health and wellness classes, and a nutritious meal in our Ultimate Cafe. Transportation to
and from the Center may also be available to eligible
participants.
Transportation
For older adults who no longer drive, getting to
essential medical appointments, to the pharmacy, to
church, or to the grocery store can be a challenge,
putting their health and well-being at risk. We provide safe and affordable door-to-door transportation
options. Wheelchair assistance available.
Information & Assistance
Our certified Information & Assistance Specialists
are the gateway to connecting older adults with the
right community resources or providing information
to address their specific needs.
In-Home Personal Care/Homemaker Services
This service enables older adults to remain living independently by providing compassionate care
from trained personnel who perform simple homemaker and/or personal care tasks, such as light
housekeeping or assistance with bathing. Delivered
with the utmost personal respect and dignity, our
services can also bring much needed respite to
caregivers.
Care Management
Our professional staff of social workers helps
older adults make informed decisions to enhance
independent living and quality of life. Our Care Managers offer consultations, assessments, and followup to assist individuals and families in planning and
care. We also provide invaluable support to caregivers.
Adult Day Care
We contract with a trusted and licensed local provider of adult day care services that offers a caring
environment focused on the individual’s physical
and emotional well-being, as well as social and recreational activities. Transportation is available.
Medical Equipment Lending
We lend gently used medical equipment to individuals, families, and caregivers. Equipment is loaned
on a first come-first served basis.
Home Repair Services
Our Tool Team helps older adults who are either
physically and/or financially unable to perform minor, routine home maintenance tasks and repairs.
The Tool Team also specializes in disability additions, such as grab bars.
Eligibility requirements apply for some programs. Some services may be provided free of charge (tax deductible
donations welcome) or based on a sliding scale of income. Contact Lyn Thomas, our Information Specialist, at 770-461-0813.

Knots of Love...
By: Jamie Bender
I’m sure you’ve walked through the center on a
Monday or Thursday and seen a huge group of
ladies knitting or crocheting. These talented ladies
of the Sit and Stitch group make all sorts of things
for friends, family members, those in need, and of
course themselves. From hats and scarves to pot
holders and dish clothes, they make it all. They
make hats for newborns at Fayette Piedmont, as
well as blankets for various churches to donate.
Their crafts have also been spread around the
Fayette County area through Meals on Wheels, Be
a Santa to a Senior, and other local projects.
Their efforts and donations never go unnoticed
and are always appreciated. So much so that
Christian City has appointed the Sit and Stitch
group the official knitters for the Christian City Children’s Home. They provide afghans, hats, scarves,
slippers, and even toy animals called Amigurumi
for the children that live at Christian City.
Lindy Scarff, who is representative on behalf of
Fayette Senior Services, says that they just want
to give the kids something to make them comfortable and feel loved. Linda Jaros, liaison for
Christian City, agrees and says that all children
just need a little something of their own that make
them feel that they are truly at home. Between
these two ladies working hard to make sure things
run smoothly and knitting or crocheting along with
the other 20 or so ladies, each child is able to get
something special.
The ladies meet at the senior center every Monday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. They sit in
a big circle, talk, and work on various crafts. Many
of them use their left over yarn from big projects to
create the small things for the children at Christian
City. Linda visits the center every couple of weeks
to pick up crafts that the ladies have collected.
Each of the ladies in the group agrees that it just
feels good to do something substantial for others.
They love making things and to do it for a good
cause just makes it more worthwhile.

volunteer spotlight
Meet Meals On Wheels volunteers Tim and Aida Cox
Tim and Alida Cox are two of the Meals on Wheels drivers
that we are very fortunate to have. They were both raised
in Baltimore, Maryland and have moved and worked all
over. They came to Georgia in the 70’s and loved it so
much that they came back to stay in 1995. While living in
North Carolina, they had known someone that delivered
Meals on Wheels and were always interested in doing it.
When they moved here, they met a man at their church
who was a MOW driver and they knew it was their opportunity to get involved. They took the chance and have
loved every moment of delivering meals ever since.
Like others, Tim and Alida have learned so much delivering meals. She says that it has taught them to appreciate small talk more. Visiting and meeting people each
day requires a certain level of openness and this has
given them just that. They’ve learned that it is important
to speak to people when you pass them, especially the
elderly because sometimes all they need is a hello and to
By: Jamie Bender.
see a friendly face. For some MOW’s participants, the
volunteer is the only face they see each day. The Cox’s
are a large part of helping to keep a smile on some on
those people’s faces.
Tim and Alida have been married for 53 years. Together, they have 3 sons and 7 grandchildren. They
are members of the St. Vincent DePaul Ministry at Holy
Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. He is also a
member of the board, a decent racquetball player, and
a former golfer. She is the moderator of a book club and
an original member of the prayer shawl ministry at their
church. Together, they enjoy simple things like feeding
birds in their backyard. One of their favorite things has
always been traveling. They have been to all 50 states,
10 countries in Europe, Egypt, and Japan. Their dream
vacation is a European river cruise.
When asked why they like to deliver meals to people
they agreed that it’s because you always get back more
than you give and that seeing the smiles on people’s
faces is priceless. They even take their dog, Abbie,
along on deliveries to entertain the Meals on Wheels
Clients. They rescued the five year old Yorkie a while
ago. They describe her as “a Yorkie who thinks she’s a
German Shepard.” In addition to Abbie’s entertainment,
I’m sure that with their wonderful personalities, Tim and
Alida give clients just the dose of happiness that they
need for a day.
Reliable and loving volunteers like Tim and Alida are
a blessing to Fayette Senior Services and the people of
Fayette County. We are so grateful for them and hope
that they continue to deliver meals for years to come.

Get to know Denny Danylchak
By: Jamie Bender
has become a very active member. He says that he
likes to come here because everyone is always so
alive and friendly. One of his favorite things thus far
has been Weight No More, a weight loss challenge
held in January of this year. Perhaps this was his favorite because he won the competition with an amazing 9.31% of weight loss in only 6 weeks.
Denny frequently attends gardening classes and
Chef for a Day classes with Chef Bonnie. “The last
Chef for a Day was a riot,” he said, “You would have
thought we were school kids.” He is also looking forward to several upcoming classes and trips. He says
that with the wide variety of classes, it isn’t hard to
find something you enjoy here. The fact that he is usually outnumbered by women also helps him enjoy the
classes just a bit more. He has met many people here
and they help to keep things interesting. Members
Jerry Peletier and Matt Ruck, who he calls the “comedy team”, are two of his favorite people to attend a
class with because they always keep him entertained.
Many people come to Fayette Senior Services because of the great things they hear about us. Denny
Danylchak is no different. After his wife passed in
December 2012, people kept suggesting that he come
here to have something to do. He finally took heed to
their suggestions and he hasn’t regretted a moment
that he’s spent here at the center. “Where else can we
have what we have here”, he says, “and for the most
part for free.”
Denny was born in Ohio. He attended John Carrol
University from 1961 to 1965. He graduated with a
bachelor’s degree in history and minor in education.
He had played basketball in high school and continued
in college. After college, he taught middle school for 2
years. “The next thing I knew,” he says, “I went to the
draft board, then I was in Kentucky at Fort Knox.” From
there, he went to Fort Sam in Houston, Texas then on
to Vietnam. Before he went off to Vietnam though, the
lovely lady he was dating convinced him to get married.
They were married in March of that year and he went
to Vietnam in April. Together they have 2 daughters
and 1 son.
He says that he hasn’t felt this good in years health
wise and he can’t wait to see what’s next. He is ready
for more trips, more golfing, and for fitness instructor
Miriam to teach him some new moves for getting in
shape. When he isn’t here at the center, Denny enjoys
traveling, sports (especially golf), and cooking.
Next time you see him in a class or around the
center, be sure to say hello and ask him about all his
weight loss secrets! You can also see him walking
the runway as a model in the “Springtime in Paris”
fashion show this month! Seeing Denny and so many
others enjoy the center makes everything we do here
so much more worthwhile!
Upon his return to the states, he started to work in
retail in 1971. His career with Ralston Purina Company
covered 22 years from 1971-1993. He was transferred
to Atlanta in 1979 and has been in Peachtree City for
35 years. In 1993, he left the company and went on to
own a consulting firm for several years.
Since joining Fayette Senior Services in 2013, Denny

Chef Bonnie’s Buttermilk Pie
from our kitchen
Chef Bonnie shares a simple but delicious recipe to try at home.
Buttermilk Pie
3 Cups Sugar
7 Tablespoons All-purpose Flour
5 Eggs
1 ¼ Cup Buttermilk (save half the milk when
mixing)
½ Cup Margarine. Melted
2 Teaspoons Vanilla
¾ Cup Pecans (Optional)
2 Unbaked Pie Shells (not deep-dish)
- Mix sugar, ½ the buttermilk and flour.
- Add eggs and the remaining buttermilk
and mix well.
- Stir in vanilla and butter. Divide evenly
among pie shells.
- Bake @ 400° for 10 Minutes. Reduce
heat to 350° and bake for 20-30
