The hard copies were submitted to NAAC on 24th January 2015. The classes for even semesters of the undergraduate programmes leading to B.A, B.Sc and B.Com degrees commenced on 2nd January 2015. The even semester for UG was for the period 2nd January 2015 to 30th April 2015. The classes for even semesters of the Postgraduate programmes M.Sc (Mathematics) and M.A (Kannada) were held between February 2015 and May 2015. Even semesters are generally packed with programmes and activities as it is the latter half of the academic year. Further, the focus will primarily be on the final year UG and PG students as they will be passing out of the portals of the college and aspiring to find good placements as well as admission in Institutes of repute to continue their higher studies. As in the previous semesters, this semester too was packed with several activities and programmes conducted by various departments. The college reopened for the odd semesters on June 26th 2015. The even semester term closed on 18th October 2015 with university practical examinations commencing from 13th October 2015 and theory examinations from 6th November 2015 (PG department odd July 2015 – December 2015). (c) On 6th of August 2015 World Organ donation day was observed with a guest lecture Risbudon by “Bone Col.Dr. marrow Jayant donation- awareness”. The program was a grand success with the registration of about hundred and fifteen volunteers wanting to become potential donors. Col. Nargund has guided successfully four candidates for Ph.D (Awarded during 2014-15) and was honoured on the Convocation day, 28th Feb 2015. 18 3.4.4 Provide details (if any) of * Research awards received by the faculty : Smt Sandya Raghavendra,Ms Madhuri and Ms. Sindhu presented a paper on “Study on Government rules and its implications on ethics among entrepreneurs” at the Research Development Association the 17th International Conference on “Contemporary issues and innovations in global business, management, economics ,tourism, information and communication technology” at Goa on 26th and 27th November 2015. The Paper was adjudged the Best paper in the conference. 3.6 Extension Activities and Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) Institution has NSS and NCC wings, RED Cross Unit through which it does a lot of socially responsible activities. 3.6.1 How does the institution promote institution-neighborhood-community network and student engagement, contributing to good citizenship, service orientation and holistic development of students ? The following are the activities to promote institution-neighbourhoodcommunity network and student engagement. 1. A seven-day annual camp was organised for the NSS volunteers at Bylakere a Village in Nelamangala taluk in Bangalore rural district during January 2015. 110 volunteers participated. N NSS Volunteers Cleaning the Village at Bylakere, a Village in Nelamangala Taluk in Bangalore rural district during the annual camp during January 2015 19 Several activities were undertaken and services rendered by the volunteers. Some of these include (i) Cleaning the village streets, premises of the school and surroundings of five temples. (ii) House to house visits to create awareness about the importance of (a) Education of the girl child (b) health and hygiene. (iii) Washing and cleaning the 10 Shiva idols on top of the temple (iv) The highlight of the camp was the legal awareness campaign conducted by Ms. Rekha Nayak and Ms. Vidya, faculty members on elating Adhaar Card, land records, old age pensions, birth, marriage and death Certificates etc. This was very well received by the villagers. 2. A blood donation camp was organized by NSS on 4th March 2015. 139 units of blood was collected and given to Blood bank. Blood donation camp conducted by NSS in progress 20 3. NSS volunteers lent a helping hand in laying the steps at Siddalagatta, hillock near Tumakuru to help the people have an easy access to a temple on top of the hillock. 4. One-day service camps were also organized during the month of February 2 0 1 5 . NSS volunteers in action during the cleaning the school premises during the Annual Camp. NSS initiative in tree Plantation 1. A one-day service camp was organised a Kannur Village which is about 70 km from Bangalore on 8thFebruary 2015. NSS volunteers dug about 150 pits for saplings to be planted. 2. The NSS volunteers along with the “Eco warrior Corps” of our college and the students of Maharani‟s Science College and Soundarya College planted about 650 saplings in Kannur Village on 1st March 2015. 21 National Cadet Corps (NCC-Boys) There were several activities conducted by the 1 Karnataka Armoured SQN, NCC the boys wing of NCC during the period January 2015-October 2015. 1. Republic Day was celebrated with Parade and cultural programme. Mrs Suhasini Vasanth, wife of Late Col.Vasanth, AC (posthumous) donated a bust of her husband who was an outstanding NCC cadet of our college. 2. 35 NCC Cadets accompanied by the NCC officer Lt. Arun Kumar and two other faculty members and two PI staff went on a 4-day cycle expedition from Bengaluru to K.G.F Kolar covering a distance of 250 km on 4th, 5th and 6th January 2015 spreading the message of cleanliness as part of the Prime Minister‟s Swach Bharath Abhiyan Programme. The expedition was flagged off by the Honorable Governor of Karnataka Sri Vaju Bhai Wala. H.E. Sri Vaju Bhai Wala Governor of Karnataka Flagging of the Cycle Expedition along with Smt.Vimala Rangachar, President, Sri. Seshadri Iyengar, Vice President MES and Dr. Shakuntala Katre, Secretary (Academics) of MES Institutions. 3. Camps Attended Lt. Arun Kumar attended the refresher Course at Officer Training Centre for NCC at Kamtee, Nagpur from 30th March to 28th April 2015. 22 Two cadets attended the National integration camp at Mysore during May2015. Two Cadets and Lt.Arun Kumar attended the Basic Leadership Camp (BLC) at Mysore from June 30th to July 10th 2015. In the 5 Sthal Sainik Camps (TLC) held during June–July 2015 at Doddaballapur, Kolar, Hoskote 25 Cadets participated. 4. International Yoga Day As part of the International day celebrations on 22nd June 2015, 100 cadets of our College participated in the Yoga demonstration at Central College Cricket Ground. Satyakrishna, Principal and Head of the Department of Mathematics and Mr. Arvind of NICT Computer Education, on 1st October 2015, for the Add-on Course in Basic Mathematics, which will be conducted in December 2015. 2. The department of Zoology has signed a MoU with “M/S ABIVRUD Health Care Pvt Ltd”, Srirampuram, Bangalore-21 for research related to Colorectal Cancer under VGST program on 29-6-2015 for a period of 5 years. Prof. Sheela Menon and Prof. Tulasipathi Naidu are the coordinators. The students of 2nd and 3rd year (CBZ/CZBT) will be involved in the research work. 3. The department of Zoology has signed a MoU with Durga Femto Technologies, Bengaluru – for 10 years for student research in the area of UV blocker properties of silver Nano particles extracted from plants 4. The Department of Commerce has signed an MoU with Ms Shri Stock Market to conduct a certificate course on “Stock market technical analysis”. 5. MES Degree College of ACS signed a MoU with Samvit Academy Synergy for CA, CS and allied courses. 25 CRITERION IV INFRASTRUCTURE AND LEARNING RESOURCES 4.1. PHYSICAL FACILITIES 4.1.2 Detail the facilities available for Infrastructural facilities for curricular activities : The IQAC has identified several repairs and renovation in consultations with the different departments and sought the permission of the management and Governing Body for the sanction of funds for these projects on a top priority basis. The management has sanctioned several of these projects. The notable recommendations of the IQAC which have been taken up by the management to upgrade and enhance Infrastructure and learning resources during the year 2014-2015 and were completed during the last six months are listed below. This was a fall out of the feedback obtained from students and Alumni by the IQAC. The new caterer is FSSAI certified and hold a trade license from BBMP Bengaluru. Tiles were laid on space adjacent to Conference Hall and in front of the conference. Construction of a Rest Room for lady staff members in the ground floor. Fixing of 2 x 2 Pin-up boards in all class rooms. Notice boards provided in all floors. Face lift to Library Entrance, False Roof at entrance, tiling of ground floor and entrance and lighting and display units at entrance to library, new arrival Book display stand/Extra Storage. CD storage cupboards, low level storage facility in first mezzanine and first floor reference section. Library flooring in Ground floor re-laid Additional Storage and low level storage space created. 29 New Arrival Display Rack Magazine Display rack Journal display and renovated reference section. 30 Three rooms (Room number 11, 30 and 55) have been converted to Audio visual rooms with LCD projector, Screen and E-podium (with built in Microphone, Amplifiers and Speaker) facility. This will not only help more teachers to use ICT in teaching but also serve as additional seminar hall. The Reception Counter at the entrance of the college was remodeled. Use of renewable energy: Plant foliage and organic debris are utilized for the preparation of bio-fertilizers. Water harvesting system: Installation of improved roof water harvesting system. Water recycling. e-waste management : Maintenance of e-waste bins at strategic places. Separate disposal of e-waste is periodically done. 7.2 Innovations 7.2.1 Give details of innovations introduced during the last four years which have created a positive impact on the functioning of the college. Under the initiative of Dr. Leelavathi D of Botany department, 10 students of B.Sc (CBZ) have adopted plants. The students regularly water the plants, prune then and take care of them. 50 In Botany department plants are grown in waste containers such as coconut shells, plastic bottles.
