This programme gives students knowledge of planning, designing and
implementing the installation of a network operating system and application
software for the network. Students learn to develop disaster recovery plans and
organisational policies, create baselines, monitor performance using a system/
network monitor and log files to evaluate performance.
Academic Entry Criteria: Computing diploma, non-computing degree or equivalent

This two-year programme of study focuses on the theory and practice of a
range of computing systems and networks, and how these systems are used to
support business practices. It aims to produce graduates with a sound technical
understanding of information technology and the application of IT to business
information systems. The course has an emphasis on developing skills in problem
solving, interpersonal communication and addressing IT problems in a range
of contexts.
The programme’s core is the fundamentals of information systems, hardware and
software infrastructure, user applications and communication. In the second year
students are able to specialise in networking or user support.

Academic Entry Criteria: A New Zealand NCEA Level 3 or higher or an equivalent
qualification from overseas or suitable industry experience or satisfactory
performance in the pre-enrolment knowledge test.

The aim of this diploma is to provide students with a broad base of
business knowledge and skills in general areas such as accounting, law,
communications or economics. This qualification also provides the opportunity to
specialise in areas such as accounting, marketing or human resource management.
Academic Entry Criteria: Students less than 20 years old must have:
A minimum of 14 numeracy credits at level one or higher in Mathematics or
Pangarau on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework; and
Fifty credits at level two with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including
a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level two or above in English or Te Reo Māori;
4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing. The literacy credits
will be achieved from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit
standards or equivalent of both of the above.
English Requirement: Students whose first language is not English must provide
evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic) or
successful completion of NZSE’s English Language Test.
COURSE STRUCTURE
To achieve the award of New Zealand Diploma In Business Level 6 students must
pass a total of 240 credits, including:

A minimum of 80 credits at Level 6;
120 credits from the Core Prescriptions; and
120 credits from the Elective List.
International students must be enrolled full time and attend classes for 20 hours
per week, as per New Zealand Immigration requirements.

The aim of this Diploma is for students to be immersed in a holistic overview
of organisations, engaging in critical thinking, problem solving and analytical
analyses of business related problems. This will help develop rational and
appropriate solutions in order to successfully work in the business sector of
Aotearoa/New Zealand.
Academic Entry Criteria: In order to be eligible for admission, students are
expected to have successfully completed either the New Zealand Diploma in
Business Level 6 or the National Diploma in Business level 6 or its equivalent.

This course will help students gain a new perspective on their own abilities and
creativity, and also prepare them thoroughly for entry into NZSE’s Diploma in
Design (Level 7).
The first year of this program includes a graphic design and communication studio,
drawing, design principles and colour theory, applied graphics and imaging,
graphic and multimedia studio, computing for design, 21st century design and
culture and the study of design research interactive systems.
Year two of the programme covers the study of print media and graphic design,
visual communication and imaging, online and offline multimedia environments,
sustainable design, graphics for products and spaces, integrated visual systems,
digital media and design, and design and its subculture.
The program also covers understanding of a graphic designer’s role in history,
society and research. It explores the issues of culture, economics and social
implications of graphic design solutions.

Academic Entry Criteria: Achieved NCEA Level 2 or equivalent
Portfolio requirements for all design & animation applicants:
Students must demonstrate the necessary ability and attitude to cope with a two
year Level 6 programme, through the presentation of a portfolio of their work - six
to eight representative samples of recent creative work that reflects the range
of the student’s creative skills and potential. These can be any media, e.g. digital
images, paintings, drawings, sketches and/or workbooks.
A 500-word essay outlining relevant background, experience, and interests as well
as career goals must also be submitted. Students may be interviewed by the tutor
if necessary.
Discretionary Entrance: All applicants for discretionary entrance will be considered
on a case-by-case basis.
English Requirement: Students whose first language is not English must provide
evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic) or
successful completion of NZSE’s English Language Test.

This course will develop a reflective designer who can work independently and in
teams. It will enhance the knowledge and applied design skills of participants to
the level of an independent practitioner.
This will also enable participants to deepen their understanding of the social
context and theoretical underpinnings of design solutions.
The course covers design theory, design studio, design context and design
practice, which includes an Internship.

Discretionary Entrance:
Have successfully completed all the requirements of the 2 year NZSE Diploma
in Design Level 6 (or equivalent as determined by NZSE staff) and in that time
demonstrated an aptitude for art and design. •

Have successfully passed the third year interview selection process. Have the necessary academic ability and attitude to cope with a third year
diploma programme, as demonstrated in writing and in a portfolio of work from
the previous 2 years. (Acceptable courses must have been at least 2 years
long and end at Level 6, e.g. one year level 5 then one year level 6) •
Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of
competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic). •
International students need to provide evidence that they have completed
a design course at the right level (Level 6), and that they have training in

This diploma is ideal for people who want to pursue a career in the animation
industry in New Zealand and worldwide. Students will explore the fundamentals
of animation and the creative process. It will equip students with the skills to use
industry-standard applications such as Autodesk and Adobe software.
As they progress in the programme, students will advance their skills in
applications such as Autodesk Maya from pre-production design to postproduction. They will learn how to integrate visual effects into their projects, and
also refine their drawing and painting skills.
The course content has been prepared by industry professionals and experienced
NZSE lecturers. All course components consist of practical assignments that allow
students to work closely with tutors . The combination of lectures, group activities,
research, field trips, weekly critiques, guest speakers and projects will deliver a
well-rounded education to students.

This programme enables students to gain advanced specialist skills and
knowledge in 3D animation. Learners will have an opportunity to explore
specialised software applications, modules and techniques to create animated
pieces for their demo showreels. Their show reels will showcase each student’s
unique ability and creativity, as well as offering them the chance to produce
animation for movie and TV productions, scientific and medical visualisation, and
other commercial applications.
The assignments are structured to enable students to develop best-practice in
becoming a professional animator in a commercial working environment.

DURATION
This Certificate provides students with a 17 week programme of study in academic
skills. These focus on introducing students to the requirements of academic study
at a tertiary level. It aims to produce graduates who are capable of undertaking
17 Weeks
academic studies in the field of their choice.
The core modules are designed to introduce students to the rigours of studying
at a tertiary level. In the Academic Skills module students learn about finding,
assessing and analysing information, referencing, working in groups, study
skills such as note-taking, exam preparation, etc. In the Data Analysis module,
basic mathematical skills are introduced and practiced, while in the Information
Technology module students become familiar with use of word processing,
spreadsheets and presentation software along with how to use the Internet to
source information and to communicate effectively.
The elective modules allow students to learn terms and underlying principles in
their chosen field of study.

INTERNSHIPS
We also organize and operate a number of experience-based internships with a
variety of strategic business partners across all sectors of our school curriculum.
These internships are an opportunity to gain practical, technical, communication, and
customer-facing experience in real-life work environments, and are an integral part of
the development of our students.
PART-TIME JOBS
We also help students with identifying opportunities for part-time jobs during their
student journey. There are all kinds of part-time jobs in Auckland that students can
apply for. Our career services team will help you identify the jobs which suit you best.

Student Support
At NZSE, we create a supportive environment and do everything we can to make our students’
stay and learning in New Zealand easy, pleasant and successful. Our friendly and dedicated
International Student Support team is committed to assisting our international students throughout
their time with NZSE, helping them to work through any concerns they might have. Our aim is to
ensure that every student’s experience is as rewarding as possible.
PRE-ARRIVAL ADVICE AND INFORMATION
Even before the students arrive we make sure they have made their arrival
arrangements. We provide support with organising their home stay if necessary
and airport pick up. Our Facebook page is an active forum where students chat
and make friends even before they get here and get to know about what they can
expect when they commence their journey with us.
ORIENTATION
The comprehensive orientation programme ensures the students are familiar with
their surroundings, get all the information required to find their way around the
school and the suburb, understand the expectations of the school and general
rules to be followed in their new country of study.
STUDENT MENTORING
The NZSE student mentoring programme identifies experienced students who can
mentor freshers who require academic or personal support. Mentors can relate
to newcomers because they have experienced many of the same challenges
themselves. The mentor provides consistent support, guidance, and concrete help
to a student who is in need of a positive role model.
ENGLISH ONLINE
Our online English learning module is available to students to give them the
opportunity to improve overall communication skills. Students can benefit from
this program, while they are studying for their course. The language training helps
students to become more confident in their social interactions and academic
performance.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
In addition to their academic support the students are given the opportunity
to mingle with students from other nationalities and share social and cultural
activities. Students work together to plan and orchestrate various social activities
that meet the needs and desires of students in NZSE. This encourages students to
enjoy a healthy social life, make new friends and appreciate different cultures.
STUDENT COMMITTEE
Our student committee is vocal, effects change and fundraises regularly for
worthwhile causes. We want our students and players to become the very best
they can. This includes personal and physical growth so we have a broad calendar
of activities, groups and clubs you can join and lead.

The NZSE student mentoring programme identifies experienced students who

You will have free access to one of the world’s best online mobile English
courses, Vital English. Communication in English is important to you finding
successful employment in New Zealand. The courses cover reading, writing,
listening and speaking – as well as grammar and vocabulary.

IMMIGRATION
Full details of immigration requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and
reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service. It can be viewed on their
website at www.immigration.govt.nz
ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive
medical treatment during your visit, you may have to pay the full costs of treatment. Full details on entitlements to
publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health. It can be viewed on their website at
www.health.govt.nz
MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE
International students (including group students) must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance
while studying in New Zealand.
ACCIDENT INSURANCE
The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents
and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further

How to Apply to Study
W HAT YOU NEED TO AP P LY
As an international student when applying to study at NZSE, you must provide us with:
•
A completed and signed International Student application form.
•
Proof of your English ability. This could be recent I ELTS or TOEFL test results or evidence that your medium of
instruction has been English. You can also sit an English language test at NZSE.
•
An English translation of your academic records, from your highest level of study.
•
If you are already studying in New Zealand, a copy of your most recent progress report.
•
Details of any relevant work experience you would like us to consider, though this is not necessary.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED
When you are accepted into a programme, we will send the following documents:
•
Offer of Place (including accommodation guarantee).
•
Information pack including medical insurance information, campus map and orientation information.
PAYING YOUR FEES
Your Offer of Place will show your academic tuition fees per year. This is quoted in New Zealand dollars and covers
a full-time programme, including course materials. Please read the Offer of Place very carefully for instructions on
how to pay for your fees.
PROTECTION OF STUDENT FEES
Student fees are placed in a special trust account operated by the Public Trust.
