NZ Diploma in Business Level 6 and University of Waikato BBA
I wanted to come to New Zealand because I’m a big fan of nature. I did some research and learned about Tauranga and about its sports and recreation, the forests, the sea, and the beaches. The best way to describe New Zealanders is ‘friendly.’ When I first started my classes I expected them to be scary, but they weren’t, because the lecturers and tutors were so helpful.
Now I’ve been here for one and half years. On my weekends I work as a Venue Attendant at a very busy arena and sports facility. I’m definitely enjoying Tauranga. It feels like home. I have told everyone in Sri Lanka that they should just get here.
The partnership enables the university bachelor degrees to be structured in a way that provides many benefits to international students, including multiple qualifications and multiple full-time work visas.

I credit Bay of Plenty Polytechnic for giving me the best opportunity to study in New Zealand.
When you are spending your parents’ hard-earned money you should be aware of what you are going to do and how you are going to do it. I had very clear goals when I came to New Zealand. The Polytechnic staff asked me about the course I wanted and helped me get where I wanted to go. I will always appreciate their welcome, their smiles, the way they changed things for me.
Now I’ve been in New Zealand three years and am working in a very big company, with 51 stores across New Zealand. When I finished my computing course at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, the company saw my expertise in IT and took me on as a technician.
Already my boss is planning to promote me to floor manager. I want to become a proprietor and own my own store. It’s very possible. One of the previous Bay of Plenty Polytechnic graduates from India has already done that, he now owns the branch store in Whakatane. I feel I am at a good point with a lot to look forward to in my future life.

Diploma in Applied Computing Level 6
I have had so many opportunities since doing my Diploma at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
I participated in volunteer projects for clients while I was studying and that led to my CV looking great when I finished and even led to my first job- my boss at the company where
I volunteered ended up offering me a job as a Junior Developer! Now I am a full-time
Web Master/Web Application Developer making web based software and management systems for companies.
In the Diploma we learnt things like business systems. At first I didn’t know why but then I realised that I will use this information when I work. Now I am finding myself moving into the business management side of things because I learned those skills in my course.
I think it’s incredibly important to always have a plan. I am going to go back to study at the Polytechnic. They have a pathway to complete the University of Waikato’s Bachelor of Computing in just one more year after getting the
Diploma. With my work experience, it is the right time now. I’m definitely working towards my future goals.

(10 pieces of visual work showing original creative ideas)
Blending art, fashion and graphic design in an interdisciplinary setting, the Bachelor of Creative Industries is all about allowing you to learn the diverse range of skills required by the creative workplace. Connected study and work spaces support creativity and collaboration between students and artists working with different media, inspiring wider creative expression. Students will work on significant commercial and not-for-profit projects during their degree - have opportunities to exhibit their work and compete in open competition. Majors:
• Fashion Design
• Graphic Design
• Visual Art
My major is Fashion Design. I especially like this course because it is more practical than theory based. We are learning a lot of hands-on skills and have the opportunity to exhibit our designs and artwork. This helps students make early connections with professionals outside the institution. I love all the lecturers. They are all very helpful and kind. Tauranga is probably my favourite place to live in the North Island.
Fashion Design
I really enjoy studying in New Zealand. I had the choice to study in London or New Zealand and chose New Zealand because I was focused on getting a good education in a safe location.
Studying at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic is different to study in
Saudi Arabia. Students are given the opportunity to challenge themselves. I especially love the after-hours access to the studio which has given me the opportunity to do what I want any time I get an idea – even at night.
The teachers here challenge us to look at world fashion and make us more questioning, more open-minded. I like that they respect our Saudi culture and environment. They really try to understand us and what we bring internationally. I’m looking forward to teaching when I return to Saudi Arabia, and am also going to open my own boutique.
Scan the QR code to hear Ohood talking in Arabic.
Fashion Design
The Bachelor’s Degree course here at Bay of Plenty
Polytechnic is amazing. The teachers are really creative, and inspire me to create my own designs.
When I am teaching in Saudi I want to be just like my teachers here.
At the beginning it was quite hard to adapt to the
“Kiwi” style. Designers in Saudi Arabia focus on evening dresses and formal wear. New Zealand focuses on detail and technique – simple elegance.
There are very few Saudi Arabian designers. Most full-time designers are foreigners. This will be a great advantage for me as I’ll be quite unique. I’ll be a professional fashion designer with my own flavour and design, without copying someone else. I’ll be able to be successful in my own business because there won’t be much competition.

Immigration Advice
I’ve spent most of my life working with students in the UK and NZ. After returning to the UK I realised that I could study from home for the online GCNZIA.
I loved the course. There was a lot to learn
– it really is full-time! The combination of legal understanding and real-life case histories was engaging. I have been a migrant myself and now I have a successful business helping people from around the world make that journey to
New Zealand.
Graduate Certificate in NZ
Immigration Advice
This was my first experience to do an online qualification. The course is very demanding, but the content is very good – highly focused, ethical and professional. Since I completed the course our business has grown and Immigration NZ has commented on the high quality of our visa applications.
The online classes were very interactive – like a real classroom. Being able to stay at home or the office and be in a conversation with people from around the world was really convenient. At any time I could go back and review what I had learned. The tutors were very helpful and answered questions very quickly. The course was also very good for the creation of business networks. I am still in touch with the other students to discuss cases we are working on.
