SERVICE POLICY
RECEIVING YOUR ORDER
WARRANTY
We strive to ship your orders accurately, completely and on time.
Please inspect the contents of your shipment before signing your
delivery receipt. Contact Customer Service at 877-998-1814 for
our complete “Acceptance and Receipt of Goods” guidelines.
Components manufactured by Northern Contours are warranted
against defects occurring in the material or manufacturing
process under normal use for 5 (FIVE) years from the date of
original purchase. Complete warranty certificate information is
available at www.northerncontours.com or can be obtained by
contacting Customer Service at 877-998-1814.
DAMAGE, DEFECTS OR MISSING PRODUCT
All damage and defects, concealed or not, and missing product
must be reported within 48 hours of receipt to Northern Contours
Customer Service at 877-998-1814.
For LTL or common carrier shipments, sign the BOL and/or
delivery receipt noting the damage and/or missing product and
contact Northern Contours Customer Service.
Documenting damages and missing items at the time of delivery
will greatly increase our carrier recourse options. Northern
Contours is not responsible for any product damaged or lost in
transit that is not noted on the delivery receipt as outlined in the
“Acceptance and Receipt of Goods” guidelines.
Northern Contours is not responsible for any product that is
damaged due to excessive handling and/or for damages due to
poor storage conditions after delivery.
REMAKE ORDERS
When damages, defects or errors are found with your order,
contact Northern Contours Customer Service at 877-998-1814
within 48 hours of delivery. Remake orders will ship in 2 (TWO)
days for standard products, 3 (THREE) days for LEVEL, Portabella,
Norlam, Spectrum and Surfaces and within 5 (FIVE) days for
Glazed products.
Products manufactured outside our normal specifications are not
covered by our warranty. Products are not warranted if exposed
to excessive heat. Proper installation of heat shields between
components and ovens or between components and lighting
that generates high temperatures is recommended.
Warranty covers repair or replacement of product only.
Northern Contours' liability will not exceed the invoiced amount
of the product.
Remove the protective peel coat from product promptly after
installation. Exposure to sun will make the peel coat difficult to
remove. Adhesive residue can be cleaned with mineral spirits.
Our manufacturing tolerance is ±1/32" or 1 mm. Warp
specification is 1.5 mm per lineal foot. Warp is measured with the
door on the cabinet with hinges fully adjusted. We recommend
storing all raw components in a temperature-controlled
environment upon delivery.
Wood veneer variations in color and grain pattern are natural
characteristics of wood and are not considered defects; therefore
they are not covered under warranty.
If the remake is due to customer error, then product, packaging
and all shipping charges will be billed. Standard lead time and
freight charges apply unless otherwise specified. If the remake is
caused by our error, then no charges will apply.
Customer will inform Northern Contours at the time of the
remake request what class of service will be required to deliver
the remakes on a timely basis. Expedited shipping requested by
customer will be billed.
We may request the return of defective or damaged product for
inspection and will issue a pre-paid call tag. In most occurrences,
digital photos will suffice.
We strive to match veneer appearance for wood veneer order
additions and replacements. However, late additions to orders
and replacement doors will likely be produced from different
veneer stock. For best results in matching, be sure orders are
complete when placed. With larger projects, breaking the order
out from room to room is helpful. If replacement doors are
required, contact Customer Service for instructions on how to
proceed.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
HEAT RESISTANCE
HINGE BORING
The KCMA standard for heat resistance requires that doors
withstand 24 hours at 120ºF (49ºC) and 70% humidity without
showing discoloration, blistering or other material failure.
All Northern Contours doors and drawer fronts exceed this
standard. Our average heat resistance is 185ºF (85ºC); the range
is 175ºF–210ºF (79ºC–99ºC).
Unless otherwise specified, hinge boring patterns and standard
placement on 3/4" or 7/8" thick components will be as follows:
•
•
Hinge Pattern 1 has a 35 mm bore and two 8 mm holes for
dowels 1/2" deep.
Hinge Pattern 2 has a single 35 mm hole 1/2" deep.
Whenever possible, put some distance between heat
sources and components. When broiling or using the oven’s
self-cleaning cycle, open the doors and drawers adjacent to the
oven. It is highly recommended to install a filler or heat shield
between the cabinet door and the oven, especially when this
distance is less than 3/4".

Centered on Door
Heat shields are an excellent product for protecting
cabinets from possible damage caused by excessive
ambient heat (temperatures beyond the ANSI/KCMA
standard). Install them on cabinets near self-cleaning
ovens, broilers and dishwashers. Heat shields are
1.56" x 30" and 0.05" thick. They are fabricated from cold rolled
steel, finished in a durable White, Almond or Black powder coat,
and predrilled for easy installation.

•
Example door: 23.875 x 23.25 = 555.09375
Divide total by 144 to get the total square feet
•
555.09375 divide by 144 = 3.8548

STANDARD AND EXOTIC
UNFINISHED COMPONENT CARE
WOOD VENEER SPECIFICATIONS
Spectrum Series Wood Veneer components are sold unfinished.
Doors are sanded in a progression up to a 220-grit sandpaper.
We recommend using a 220-grit sandpaper prior to finishing.
Use care to avoid sanding through the veneer, which may
expose the core material. Real wood veneer is a unique product
of nature so each piece or section may accept stain differently.
We recommend using a sanding sealer and/or wood toner
to maintain a consistent finish. Unfinished components must
be stored in a climate-controlled environment to minimize
expansion and contraction.
Our Standard and Exotic species are natural wood products.
Each veneer has unique characteristics and variations specific
to the species. These variations in grain and color are inherent
in the veneer, and components may have a natural crossbar
figure or slight bending ray fleck. These are considered natural
characteristics of wood and will not be replaced without
a charge. We use veneer grades based on standard HPVA
specifications.
RECONSTITUTED
WOOD VENEER SPECIFICATIONS
Reconstituted wood veneer is an engineered product that gives
you superior color and grain consistency while also offering
an environmentally responsible alternative to endangered or
extremely rare wood species.
BOARD SPECIFICATIONS
Components are made with a high quality, CARB Phase 2
ATCM 93120 compliant, 3/4" engineered core. Fusion XT uses
a 7/8" engineered core. An engineered core provides a stable,
consistent substrate, virtually eliminating warping. Ultra Low
Emitting Formaldehyde (ULEF) options available by special
request. We reserve the right to use a particleboard core of
equal density in certain situations.
EDGEBANDING SPECIFICATIONS
Most Spectrum Series Wood Veneer components are internally
edgebanded with a 3 mm, multi-layered wood veneer unless
otherwise noted. Application is shown below.
VENEER SAMPLE DEPOSIT PROGRAM
We strive to match veneer appearance within an order but
it may vary from a sample previously produced. Many of our
Exotic veneer species have natural beauty characteristics that
include a wide variety of colors and unique traits that vary
from log to log. These variations are most prevalent in Birdseye
Maple, Black Walnut, American Red Gum, Quartered Figured
English Sycamore, Quartered Flakey White Oak and European
Steamed Beech.
For this reason, we strongly suggest reserving the veneer
needed for your job and approving a sample from current
inventory before production. To begin this process, elevation
drawings or a bill of materials indicating the size of the project
is required, along with a $100 deposit that will be applied to
your order. In the event that an order is not placed, the deposit
is non-refundable.
Additional lead time of 2-3 weeks is needed to firmly secure
this veneer and have the sample approved. We will hold the
reserved material for 15 days after the sample is sent. If the
sample is declined or an order is not received, the reserved
veneer will be returned to active inventory.
SPECIAL SIZES
PAINTABLE DOORS
For special size requirements, call Customer Service for
availability and pricing. Oversized parts are subject to additional
fees and may not be covered by our warranty.
Paint Grade Maple is available on all Spectrum Series profiles,
except Element.

WOOD VENEER
MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
VENEER CUTS
FRAMES
Plain Sliced veneer is cut straight through the log
from one side to the other producing the common
cathedral grain pattern. This slicing method will
create some areas with a straight grain appearance
on the sides.
Quartered or Rift Cut veneer is used to achieve
veneer with a straight grain. In quarter sawn, the
quarter of a log is placed so that the growth rings are
perpendicular to the cutting blade creating a straight
grain pattern. Rift Slicing achieves a similar grain
pattern but avoids the appearance of “flake” that
occurs in some species when quarter sawn.
Frames are produced using engineered core material, wood
veneer and solid wood inlay sticking. After the frame has been
routed, the visible portion is SOLID WOOD rather than the
engineered core. We carry Red Oak, Maple, Cherry and Black
Walnut solid lumber. The chart below shows how the veneer and
solid wood will be paired. Appliance frames with raw or finished
inside edges are available. Multi-opening frames are available.

SLIP MATCHING
Slip Match is standard unless otherwise
noted within our Species Specifications
section on pages 9-11. The veneer pieces
are placed in sequence as shown with the
grain pattern repeating itself.
GRAIN MATCHING
Custom Grain Matching capabilities are available in our INSPIRED
by Northern Contours line of premium products. Each project
is unique and will be quoted individually. Not all profiles or
species are conducive to grain matching. Elevation drawings are
required.
OVERLAYS
Available in Metro, Nova, Fusion and
Fusion XT profiles. Minimum width is
2 7/8". Maximum length is 96". Overlays
will be profiled and edgebanded on all
four sides to match door and drawer
fronts. See “Cut-to-Size Panels” on page 8

TEXTURED
thermally fused laminates
TEXTURED THERMALLY FUSED
LAMINATE SPECIFICATIONS
Thermally fused laminate (TFL) is made by fusing a
resin-impregnated sheet directly to a substrate. Heat and
pressure activate the resin in the saturated TFL sheet, creating
a cross-linked bond with the engineered core. The embossed
texture adds a natural look to your designs.
APPLIANCE FRAMES
Appliance frames with raw inside edges are available.
OVERLAYS
Overlays will be edgebanded on all four sides to match door
and drawer fronts. See “Cut-to-Size Panels” if raw edges are
desired.
BOARD SPECIFICATIONS
CUT-TO-SIZE PANELS
Components are made with a high quality, CARB Phase 2 ATCM
93120 compliant, 3/4" engineered core. An engineered core
provides a stable, consistent substrate, virtually eliminating
warping. TFL components will have the same textured material
on the face and back.
Available in 3/4" thicknesses with double-sided, textured TFL
on face and back and the option of raw edges or edgebanding
on one long edge.
EDGEBANDING SPECIFICATIONS
Edgebanding options include Matching (texture and color),
3D Aluminum or Steel Gloss. Edgebanding is available for
purchase in rolls; roll length varies by type.
CLEANING AND CARE
Clean using mild soap and a damp cotton cloth, mild kitchen
or glass cleaning products or denatured alcohol. Bleach (a 10%
mixture) can be used as a disinfectant on most surfaces. Test
on a non-visual spot before using. Avoid any abrasive materials,
solvent based cleaners, harsh chemicals or any brushes or
scouring pads.
20
SHEET STOCK
Available in double-sided, textured TFL 4' x 8' sheets in 3/4"
thicknesses with raw edges.
ACCESSORIES
Additional components or accessories for TFL materials are
available in 3DL color equivalents. Note that TFL and 3DL
are different materials and slight color, sheen and texture
differences may occur.

3D LAMINATE SPECIFICATIONS
CLEANING AND CARE
Our 3D Laminate (3DL) selection includes a variety of solids,
realistic woodgrains, abstracts, textures and glosses. 3DL is
made from PVC, one of the most versatile polymers, and has
consistent color, finish and surface quality from edge to edge.
DO NOT USE ACETONE.
We source our film from highly regarded manufacturers and
test each incoming lot for color and gloss consistency. We also
contract with an independent research and development group
that tests the physical properties of our laminates, including
scratch and mar, impact and stain resistance.
Profile detail is routed into the core and then covered with
material. This process allows a seamless joint between the face
and sides of doors and drawer fronts.
DRAWER FRONTS
Drawer front height and style will determine options for full
rail, reduced rail and/or slab fronts. The notes below reference
minimum values that can be found in the 3D Laminate Door
Style Specifications section that follows.
If the height is equal to or greater
than the dimensions listed under
minimum, fronts will have standard
rail dimensions.
A protective peel coat is applied to certain specialty materials.
Do not expose to direct sunlight before removal. Remove
promptly after cabinet installation but prior to decorative
hardware. Use fingernail to remove, not sharp objects. Avoid
sliding the panels on the outer surface.
If the height is less than the dimension
listed under minimum and equal to
or greater than the dimension listed
under reduced rails, fronts will have a
1" center panel and floating rails.
BOARD SPECIFICATIONS
Components are made with a high quality, double refined,
CARB Phase 2 ATCM 93120 compliant, 3/4" engineered core.
An engineered core provides a stable, consistent substrate.
Component backs are thermally fused laminate (TFL) and come
in a variety of color or woodgrain options.
3/4" Ultra Low Emitting Formaldehyde (ULEF) core with a White
TFL back option is available on select door styles by request.
EDGEBANDING SPECIFICATIONS
Select 3D laminates are available on our LEVEL profile which is
flat laminated and edgebanded. See LEVEL Availability Chart
for complete listing. Edgebanding options include Matching,
3D Aluminum or Steel Gloss. Edgebanding is available for
purchase in rolls; roll length varies by type.
PAINTABLE DOORS
Paintable (raw face and sides) doors, drawer fronts, frames and
mullions are available in limited styles. They are routed and
sanded on a 3/4" engineered core with a TFL back. Raw doors
are not warranted against warp. Paintable Shakers will not have
a drop-in panel.
24
Heights under the minimum for
reduced rails will be slab.
FINGERPULLS
The standard placement for fingerpulls on doors is top AND
bottom; on drawer fronts, standard placement is top OR bottom.
Fingerpulls are available for all styles excluding: Manchester II,
Manchester III, Cortina, LEVEL and Select Series with outside
profiles B038, B108 and B127. Fingerpulls are not available with
high gloss materials.

product. Due to this manual finishing, the buildup of glaze may
vary from one part to another. This variance is considered an
acceptable characteristic of glazed finishing, parts will not be
replaced due to these variations.
FRAMES AND MULLIONS
A variety of frame and mullion styles are available. Details and
dimensions are shown in the Door Style Specifications section.
Multi-opening frames are available. The routed portion of frame
and mullion backs can be painted in a coordinating color for an
additional charge. Appliance frames are available.
MULTI-PANEL PRODUCTS
Multi-panel products can be produced in vertical or horizontal
configurations for a variety of applications including tall
cabinets, islands and peninsula backs. Maximum width for
multi-panels with vertical grain direction is 48". Standard
configuration will center the panel between all stiles and rails.
If your design varies, send a drawing and contact Customer
Service. Multi-panels are not available on slab, Manchester II or
Manchester III door styles.

CLEANING AND CARE
Our extensive collection of 5-piece 3D laminate doors is the
result of our continuing commitment to provide innovative
products to our discerning customers. Capitalizing on advances
in materials and European technology, Northern Contours
leads the industry with glazed and 5-piece profile wrapped
components.
DO NOT USE ACETONE.
The Portabella Series is a unique collection that offers styles
produced in custom sizes and quantities as well as a host of
appealing features:
HEAT RESISTANCE
•
•
•
Horizontal cross-rails on woodgrain prints have true grain
orientation for a more realistic appearance.
Profile wrapped stiles and rails assure a uniform
appearance on the face and back of components.
Glaze options provide a designer patina look at very
competitive prices.
METALLIC FRAME SPECIFICATIONS
Available in two profiles. Profile wrapped with finished paper.
Includes a frosted acrylic insert panel.
PROFILE WRAPPED FRAMES
Frames are available in all 5-piece door styles. Details and
dimensions are shown in the Series Specifications section that
follows.
Whenever possible, put some distance between heat
sources and components. When broiling or using the oven’s
self-cleaning cycle, open the doors and drawers adjacent to the
oven. It is highly recommended to install a filler or heat shield
between the cabinet door and the oven, especially when this
distance is less than 3/4".
HEAT SHIELDS
Heat shields are an excellent product for protecting cabinets
from possible damage caused by excessive ambient heat
(temperatures beyond the ANSI/KCMA standard). Install them
on cabinets near self-cleaning ovens, broilers and dishwashers.
Heat shields are 1.56" wide by 30" in length and 0.05" thick.
They are fabricated from cold rolled steel, finished in a durable
White, Almond or Black powder coat, and predrilled for easy
installation.
Installation Instructions:
Place heat shield against cabinet frame. Heat shield should be
even with the front edge of the cabinet doors with countersunk
holes towards back of cabinet. Use four #6 flat head wood
screws to install each heat shield. (Screws are not included.)

GLAZE
Door and glaze combinations are available as shown on the
Availability Chart. Glaze color and material combinations cannot be
altered.
Trained craftsman manually apply the glazed finish on 3DL product.
Due to this manual finishing, the buildup of glaze may vary from
one part to another. This variance is considered an acceptable
characteristic of glazed finishing and parts will not be replaced due
to these variations.
The following decorative items are available glazed to match doors:

1307 Windsor
