In the case of Medicine, the HPAT results are taken in combination with the school-leaving results. • Candidates for admission to Medicine, Physiotherapy, Radiography & Nursing courses are required to pass a health assessment prior to admission, and from time to time thereafter, in accordance with the health policy of the College of Health Sciences. The assessment includes testing for Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis. The assessment costs the student approximately €230. • Candidates for some programmes (currently: Human Nutrition, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Radiography and Nursing) will be required to undergo Garda Vetting. In the event that a relevant offence is disclosed, candidates may not be permitted to register. • Non-EU students apply directly to UCD, please see www.ucd.ie/international for details of application procedures and programmes. • Applicants presenting qualifications gained outside Ireland are assessed for admission purposes on an individual basis in accordance with procedures on EU and non-EU websites. • For CAO applicants, all documentation and exam results which are being presented for assessment for entry to UCD must be with CAO no later than the dates below: Irish Leaving Certificate/A-level: 13 August Other School leaving exams: 31 July 2014 2014 Other applicants (e.g. FETAC/Mature/Non-EU/Transfers): please see the relevant UCD website. It may not be possible to gain entry in the current year if documents and/or results are presented later than the relevant dates. This includes Leaving Certificate rechecks. Note about fees • Were you born outside the EU? • Have you, or your parents, lived outside the EU for 3 of the last 5 years? • Are you a non-EU National? • Have you previously attended a third–level institution (in Ireland or elsewhere)? If you answered yes to any of these questions please see www.ucd.ie/fees for information on the fees which will apply to you. If you are deemed to be a non-EU candidate you should apply direct to UCD (see above). Irish Leaving Certificate Matriculation (minimum entry requirements): Candidates must present at least six subjects selected according to programme requirements and must obtain Grade C3, or better, in two subjects on Higher papers and Grade D3, or better, in the remaining four subjects on Ordinary or Higher papers. One HE will be accepted where the candidate has among his/her other subjects at least three HC3 grades, or at least one HC3 and one HB3 grade (N.B. this does not apply to nursing programmes). All subjects of the Leaving Certificate – Higher and Ordinary level – are recognised by the National University of Ireland for matriculation purposes, except as outlined below: Subjects and combinations of subjects not permitted: 1 The subject ‘Physics and Chemistry’ may not be Points are awarded as follows: % Grade 90-100 85-89 80-84 75-79 70-74 65-69 60-64 55-59 50-54 45-49 40-44 A1 A2 B1 B2 B3 C1 C2 C3 D1 D2 D3 Leaving Cert Vocational Programme (LCVP) Link Modules Points Points Higher Level Lower Level 100 90 85 80 75 70 65 60 55 50 45 60 50 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10 5 Grade Points Distinction Merit Pass 70 50 30 presented with either ‘Physics’ or ‘Chemistry. 2 ‘Agricultural Economics’ may not be presented with ‘Economics’. 3 ‘Classical Studies’ may not be presented with ‘Latin’ or ‘Greek’. 4 The subject ‘Mathematics Ordinary Alternative/Foundation Level’ will be accepted for matriculation registration purposes. However, points will not be awarded for this subject and it cannot be used as a substitute for the subject ‘Mathematics’ in programmes for which ‘Mathematics’ is an entry requirement. 5 The subjects ‘Gaeilge – Bonnleibhéal’ (IrishFoundation Level) will not be accepted for matriculation registration purposes or points. 6 Applicants presenting older leaving certificate results including subjects which are no longer offered should contact admissions@ucd.ie for advice with regard to any exclusions which may apply. Laboratory Science Subjects: The following subjects in the Irish Leaving Certificate are recognised laboratory science subjects: Agricultural Science; Biology; Chemistry; Physics and Chemistry (Joint); Physics. Applied Leaving Certificate: This examination does not meet matriculation and entry requirements. The points system: Due to limitation of places, admission to most undergraduate programmes is based on the points system. The examination results of applicants who matriculate and meet Programme Entry Requirements are assessed on the basis of allocating points for grades obtained in the Leaving Certificate examination. As cut-off points are determined by the current year’s school-leaving results, it is not possible to forecast the points that will be required for entry to programmes in 2014. Notes: • In 2014, 25 additional points will be awarded for a grade D3 or better in Leaving Certificate Higher Level Mathematics, where that subject is one of the six subjects being counted for points purposes. • The school-leaving examination performance of applicants is scored on the basis of applicants’ best results in not more than six individual subjects taken in the Leaving Certificate examination of any one year. Where an applicant presents school-leaving examinations in two or more years the best result in a single sitting will be selected for scoring purposes. The one-year scoring restriction does not affect the separate matriculation requirements of the National University of Ireland; i.e. it is still possible to complete matriculation requirements over more than one year, except for Medicine where applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements in the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate that they present for points calculation purposes. • The subjects and combination of subjects not permitted for matriculation also applies when computing an applicant’s points score. • The school-leaving examination performance of applicants who presented the Leaving Certificate and Matriculation Examinations in or before 1992 FETAC applicants Holders of a FETAC Level 5 or Level 6 Certificate in a designated programme, with distinctions in five modules, will be granted matriculation for admission to some programmes. For full details, please see www.ucd.ie/myucd/fetac A-Level Applicants To matriculate on the basis of A-level and GCSE examinations, a student must obtain Grade C or better in two subjects at A-level (A/E or B/D is regarded as equivalent to Grade C/C for this purpose) and passes in four other recognised subjects at A-level/GCSE. At GCSE grade C or better is regarded as a pass. Applicants must also meet Programme Entry Requirements (see overleaf).
