INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHOR(S)
TYPES OF MANUSCRIPTS
1. Full-length Original Articles
Manuscript of Full-length Original Articles should include a 250-word structured abstract
(Purpose, Methods, Results and Conclusion), Introduction, Experimental Methods, Results
and Discussion, Acknowledgment, References, Figure Captions List and Tables. Graphics,
images and diagrams should be submitted separately in a high-quality original format.
2. Reviews on Specialized Topics
Reviews are intended to provide an updated perspective on a certain subject that could be
relevant for the readership of the journal.
3. Technical Notes
Technical notes do not exceed four printed pages (including figures and tables). They are the
appropriate form for new findings, preliminary original results, comments on papers
published in the journal, or important new records. They should be written as a continuous
text without the various divisions of regular papers (and without an abstract). Technical notes
will be reviewed as normal papers.
4. Technical Reports
Technical Reports are intended to report about local meetings/workshops/conferences/, new
instrumentation and technical industrial reports.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHOR(S)
1. General Manuscript Preparation Guidelines
Manuscripts (including title page, abstract, text, references, captions, and tables) should be
submitted using the Online Manuscript Submission and Tracking System. The manuscript
should be single spaced as for printing on 21 X 29.7 cm (A4) paper. Margins of at least 2.5
cm (1 in.) should be used. The manuscript must be prepared using Microsoft Word or in
LaTeX. A PDF file derived from Word or LaTeX could be used in the first instance, though
the source file will be required for accepted papers before publication.
Original articles should be structured in the following parts: Abstract, Introduction,
Experimental Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment and
References.
A Cover Letter to accompany the manuscript is required. This document that should be
submitted as a separate file, should clarify to the Managing Editor how the article will
contribute to the scientific knowledge.
A Cover Letter is mandatory for revised versions of an Article, along with the Point by Point
response to reviewers.
2. Specific Guidelines
Title Page
Title page should be the first page of all submitted manuscripts and should include the
following information: Title of the Article, Names and Affiliations of all Author(s),
Corresponding Author, and Address for Correspondence including the e-mail address and
Fax number of the corresponding Author.
Abstract
A structured abstract no longer than 250 words is mandatory for all Original Articles or
Review Articles. Four or more keywords should be included for indexing purposes. An
Arabic translation, if it can be made available, may be included at this stage or supplied later.
Text
Papers should be written in clear, concise language and consist of an abstract of not more that
250 words (summarizing the essential results and conclusions), introduction, material and
methods, results and discussion, conclusions, and acknowledgment. The title must be
sufficiently informative. Please provide the appropriate classification and suitable key words.
The full name and the address of each author should be given, as well as the e-mail address of
the corresponding author to allow fast communication with the Journal. This e-mail address
also appears on the first page of the printed article. References should be cited in the text in
the forms: [1], [1, 2], [1-6]. They should be listed and numbered in their order of citation in
the text, not by name and date. The reference list should be in the format of the journal that
can be found in any issue listed on the AJSE website: http://ajse.kfupm.edu.sa/
Figures and Tables
Figures and tables should be submitted in their original formats and kept separate from the
text. The preferred formats are PDF, EPS, TIF, or JPEG. Indicate the preferred location of
each figure in the body of the manuscript. Figures are referred to in the text by “Figure n”
(capital F). The legends to the figures may be provided on a separate page. The sizes of tables
should take account of the page width and length, or column width. Tables are referred to in
the text by “Table n” (capital T). The legend to a table is given on top of the table. Indicate
the preferred location of each table in the body of the manuscript.
