SAS Connectivity Source Connector Host 0 Per Host SAS Expander 0: Four multi-lane SAS connections using four SAS cables. Host 1 Per Host SAS Expander 1: Four multi-lane SAS connections using four SAS cables. For connection between an external 6 Gb/s or 12 Gb/s SAS HBA and the IBM DeepFlash 150, use only the following IBM cables for each connection: Two-meter cable: SDIFC-SASHM20 IBM DeepFlash 150 SAS Cable, Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS 2.1, 2m. Three-meter cable: IBM PN 001J896 IBM DeepFlash 150 SAS Cable, Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS 2.1, 3m. 2 IBM DeepFlash 150: Site Preparation Guide These cables can be ordered directly from IBM. Note: Host SAS Expanders with mini-SAS connectors interface with one or more external servers through SAS 12G x4 cables that are up to three meters in length. Server requirements The following are some of the supporting equipment server requirements for the IBM DeepFlash 150 installation: • • Processors: – 2 x Intel Xeon 26xx, 8 or more physical cores. – 2 x Intel Xeon E5v3 Gen9, 2.8GHz or higher. Memory – • 32 GB RAM, ECC DDR3, 1866 MHz SAS HBAs – LSI 9207-8e (6 Gbs) – LSI-9300-8e (12 Gbs) Power requirements The system requires two user-provided power cords. The IBM DeepFlash™ 150-end of the power cord must have a C13 connector. Choose the appropriate connector at the other end of the power cord so that it properly connects to the local power distribution system. The power cord must be appropriately rated to carry the current specified in Table 1-4 on page 3. The following table describes the power requirements for the system: Table 1-4. Power Requirements Input Parameter Range Operating Voltage (Nominal) 100 VAC – 240 VAC Operating Voltage (Max) 90 VAC – 264 VAC Input Line Frequency (Nominal) 50 Hz – 60 Hz Input Line Frequency (Maximum) 47 Hz – 63 Hz Minimum Turn On Voltage (Ramping Up) 80 VAC – 87 VAC Minimum Turn Off Voltage (Ramping Down) 85 VAC – 75 VAC Maximum Input Current 12 A (RMS) @ 100 VAC 5 A (RMS) @ 240 VAC Note: The specified maximum input current is nominally shared between two PSUs. Load sharing between the PSUs is accurate to ±3A at any output load. Therefore, if the entire system load is 6A, power may be delivered to the system by only one of the PSUs, while the other delivers no power to the system. Chapter 1 3 ESD Caution – Handling CAUTION: Static electricity may be discharged through this disk subsystem. In extreme cases, the discharge may temporarily interrupt the operation or damage components. To prevent static discharge, make sure you are working in an ESD-safe environment. For example, before handling the disk subsystem, touch a grounded device, such as a computer case. IBM DeepFlash 150 hardware specifications The following list provides information on the hardware specifications of the controller and drive enclosures: Table 1-5. IBM DeepFlash 150 Hardware Specifications Temperature Range and Condition Chassis Height 5.20 in. (132 mm) (3U standard) Chassis Weight 100 lbs (45kg)(when fully configured) Chassis Width 17.17 in. (436 mm) Chassis Width including Bezel Chassis Depth(*) Chassis without CMA Depth(*) (**)option with CMA installed Overall Depth, from bezel to fan Handles 18.98 in. (482 mm) 35.6 in. (904 mm) 38.97 in. (990 mm) 33.86 in. (860 mm) (*)The depth is determined from the mounting ear to the back side of the chassis. Bezel depth is not included. (**) CMA = Cable Management Arm. Rack requirements The IBM DeepFlash 150 is heavy. Racks should be securely fastened to the floor or include stabilization mechanisms to prevent them from tipping over. The IBM DeepFlash 150 is approximately 39ʺ deep (measured from rear of front cabinet rail to rear extent of chassis with the CMA attached). If the IBM DeepFlash 150 is installed in a cabinet rather than a rack, the minimum interior depth of the cabinet must meet this length requirement. If the cabinet is too shallow, the rear doors of the cabinet may not close properly. If there are no other mounting options available (for example, an open rack or deeper cabinet), the rear doors of the cabinet might need to be removed. Ensure that the rack is secure and meets the guidelines given in the preceding paragraph before installing the IBM DeepFlash 150. Additional rack requirements are described as follows: • 4 A standard 19 in. (483 mm) wide, four-post EIA rack, with mounting posts that conform to English universal hole spacing, per section 1 of ANSI/EIA-310-D-1992. IBM DeepFlash 150: Site Preparation Guide • The rack post holes must be 0.38 in (9.6 mm) square holes. Note: If you are using a rack with a different type of mounting holes (for example, round holes), contact technical support. • The minimum vertical rack space for the IBM DeepFlash 150 is 3Us, equal to 5.25 in. (133.35 mm). WARNING! Use of an equipment lift is recommended for cabinet or rack installation (do not use a vacuum lift). If an equipment lift is not available, a minimum of two people should lift the IBM DeepFlash 150 into place. Attempting this procedure alone may result in personal injury or equipment damage. SAS cable and AC power cable The following cables are required: • Four-lane SAS cables are used to connect the IBM DeepFlash 150 to one or more external hosts. The number of cables used (up to eight) depends on the connectivity configuration. Use only the following IBM cables for each connection: – Two-meter cable: • – SDIFC-SASHM20 IBM DeepFlash 150 SAS Cable, Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS 2.1, 2m. Three-meter cable: • IBM PN 001J896 IBM DeepFlash 150 SAS Cable, Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS 2.1, 3m.These cables can be ordered directly from IBM. Note: For the IBM DeepFlash 150 to be serviceable, the SAS cables should be at least 3 meters (9.84 ft.) long if the Cable Management Arm (CMA) is used. • Two power cables are required to connect the AC power to the PSU. Note: The maximum supported SAS cable length is 3 meters. Because the system is mounted on sliding rails, the SAS and power cables require a ʺservice loopʺ to allow the system to be pulled out of the rack for service. In order to allow for full extension of the IBM DeepFlash 150, the service loop must be approximately 1.5 meters (4.92 ft.) in length. A CMA can be attached to the rear of the IBM DeepFlash 150 to manage the motion of the service loop, but the service loop is always required whether the CMA is used or not. Assuming a 3 meter SAS cables is used with a 1.5 meter service loop, an attached host must be located less than 1.5 meters (12U) from the IBM DeepFlash 150. Note: Host SAS Expanders with mini-SAS connectors interface with one or more external servers through SAS 12G x4 cables up to three meters in length. Required tools Tools required for the installation are: • #2 Phillips screwdriver • Flathead screwdriver, if the IBM DeepFlash 150 is shipped with the front bezel • 8 mm or 5/16ʺ wrench (if slide rails need to be adjusted) Chapter 1 5 Warnings and cautions Before starting the installation, ensure that the required equipment and tools are available and follow the warnings and cautionary information: • To prevent the system from overheating, do not operate it in an area that exceeds the maximum recommended ambient temperature of 40˚C. See Environmental and temperature requirements on page 2 for more details. • The power connector must be accessible at all times. See Power requirements on page 3 for more details. • Installation of the equipment must comply with the local and national electrical codes. • Ensure there is adequate space around the IBM DeepFlash 150 for servicing the system and for adequate airflow. The airflow direction in the system is from front to back. • Ensure that the cabinet or rack meets the requirements listed in the Rack Requirements. See Rack requirements on page 4 for more details. • Opening or removing the system cover when the system is ON will expose you to a risk of electric shock.
