Different levels of support, involvement and assistance is coming from various parts of the community. A VERY IMPORTANT role that needs filling is the Equipment and Services role. This role will involve the person knowing exactly what equipment each stall requires and ensuring that this is available and in place. They will work closely with me to ensure that we have all Occupational Health and Safety requirements fulfilled, and with other professionals (electrician, plumber etc.) to ensure that services are available and sufficient where required. Whilst this is one specific role for the festival, it could be shared amongst a number of people. If you have a trade background or are interested in co-ordination of services we would love to hear from you. Alternatively if you know of a group of people that you could work with, and you’d be keen to coordinate this with them, we would be thrilled to hear from a group of interested parties. Please make contact with me if you are interested. This is a crucial element in the preparation for the Festival. The students and teachers came back in need of a well earned rest over the long weekend. They had been kept incredibly busy during this time, engaged in lots of great learning activities and shared experiences. The teachers were incredibly proud of the way the students conducted themselves during this time and I commend the students for this. As always our students behaved in a way in which we could all be very proud. Thanks also go to the staff in attendance – Linda Bett, Danielle MacLeod, Helen Thomas, Sophie Blacklock, Ben Heys and Dean Roberts. Their enthusiasm and energy helped to make this a positive experience for the students. EDUCATION WEEK 2016 Education Week in 2016 is from the 15th to the 21st May. There will be an Open Morning for prospective parents on the 19th May from 9:30-11:00am. For our current parent community we will be holding an Open Evening on Wednesday the 18th May from 6:30-8:00pm. (PLEASE NOTE THE CORRECTION OF TIME, MY ERROR IN LAST WEEK’S NEWSLETTER.) CONFIRMED TIME IS 6.30-8PM EXCURSIONS On the 29th April the Level 3 and 4 students are going to the Melbourne Aquarium, and the Level 5 and 6 students are going to Scienceworks, both to support their Term 2 Units of Work. This will mean that there will be buses for two excursions on the boundary of the school on this morning. With this in mind, if you are able to walk to school, car pool or park further from the school that would be very helpful. Keep in mind it could be very congested around the school on this day, so PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY. Please remember my door is always open and I am available whether you are able to make it to the school or not. Email me on george.kirrily.j@edumail.vic.gov.au or call the school on 9803 5344 and ask to speak with me. I’m happy to talk on the spot if I am available or to make an appointment/phone call at another time. Our trip started with a visit to Parliament House, which was a very busy Tuesday. We were fortunate to see the likes of Bill Shorten, Tanya Plibersek and Christopher Pyne in the House of Representatives during debating over Road Safety and Fair work bills. Other visits included Old Parliament House, The War Memorial, the National Capital Exhibition and the National Electoral Education Centre. The beautiful sunny weather made our bike ride around a section of Lake Burley Griffin thoroughly enjoyable. We also tested our athletic skills at the AIS in the ‘Sportex’ sports experience and at the hands on exhibits at Questacon, with the Free-fall Slide a highlight. We all had a wonderful time and the camp was a huge success. We would also like to thank Ms Thomas and Mr Roberts for joining us for the week. Camp is a great opportunity to get to know each other outside of the classroom and there was lots of time for playing, singing, laughing as well as learning about our Government and our Capital City. The Australian Government recognises the importance of young Australians being able to visit their National Capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist Camelot Rise in meeting the cost of camp, the Australian Government contributed funding of $30 per eligible student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program towards the travel expenses incurred. This contribution was paid directly to the school upon the completion of camp.
