Load Shedding Overview
Single Line Drawing
Applications
The RTS series of unique load shedding controls automatically reduce energy consumption of
connected lighting loads by 25-50% (RTS-0-10V) or 100% (RTS-24,RTS-120,RTS-277) during peak
hours or other specified conditions. A patent pending feature disconnects or dims lighting to deliver
energy savings when they are required most.
Demand Response: RTS can accept demand response signals and automatically disconnect any
light fixture, or dim 0-10V light fixtures by 25 or 50%.
Plug Load/Receptacle Control:
RTS can connect to low voltage occupancy sensors to
automatically switch receptacles on/off based on occupancy.
Emergency Lighting: RTS can detect the loss of utility power and dim 0-10V light fixtures connected
to an emergency inverter system by 25-50%.
The RTS can be mounted in any junction box or most light fixtures by snapping
into a 1/2” Knockout (K.O.) and is economically justified for any project.

LOAD
RTS allows load to operate normally until load shedding signal changes position,
then load is disconnected or dimmed, depending on model.
All RTS models are UL listed and can be used in a variety of applications. Please
consult pages 3-5 for additional information. Contact LVS for special application
guidance or questions.

Load Shedding Controls
Load Shedding Controls
Application #1 Load Shedding (disconnect selected loads)
Application #1: Switching/Load Shedding based on 0-10V Signal
The RTS-24 can be used with an external transformer and dry contact from a BMS system (or
other device such as time clock) to shed connected loads. An LVS TR-100 power supply can
provide up to 250mA (enough for 6 RTS-24) but any 24V transformer or power supply (AC or
DC) may be used.
Some systems do not have a dry contact output, such as wireless systems or some photocells. RTS-120 and RTS-277 can accept input from the 0-10V line from a ballast/dimmer,
when violet and gray are between 1-10V, relay is closed, 0-1V relay is open. Dimmer
When load shed signal opens, RTS-24 de-energizes and sheds load.

The RTS-120/277 can be used to control a receptacle (plug load) or lighting circuit using a
DC input signal from an occupancy sensor with power pack or other
DC supply.

Application #2: Plug Load/Receptacle/Lighting Control
The RTS-24 can be used to control a receptacle (plug load) or lighting circuit using a 24V
signal, such as from an occupancy sensor with 24V power pack. For sensors which use other
voltages (such as 12V or 15V), see RTS-120 or RTS-277 on page 4.

Each RTS-24 requires 36 milliamps/1W.
Typical sensor requires 50 milliamps (mA).
Common power pack ratings are 100mA, 150mA or 250mA.

Note: RTS-120/277 can be used when power pack or dimmer control does
not have sufficient power to supply RTS-24. RTS-120/277 requires less than
1mA to energize relay and can be used with any voltage power pack including 12V, 15V, 18V, 24V or other, up to 30VDC max.
