Source of data: Week 44 data was collected from 31 health facilities located in Montserrado, parts of Margibi and Bong Counties. Four WHO supported MOHSW
Clinics in Grand Cape MT, Bomi and Gbarpolu Counties reported in week 44. MSF Belgium reported from11; IRC reported from six, MERCY Corps from five, NWMT,
MSF Swiss and Catholic Mission each from three clinics, PMU from two and ACF from one clinic reported in Week 44. MSF France & Holland, MDM, IMC and SCFUK
did not report in Week 44.
Cholera: 1,015 cholera cases were reported to WHO in week 44.
Thirty-one health facilities operating in Monrovia and some parts of
Margibi, Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Bong and Gbarpolu Counties have
reported in week 44. The trend of cholera cases has decreased since
week 41, but remained relatively the same during the weeks 43 and 44
(Table 1 and Figure 1). There was one cholera-associated death
reported in week 44.
Acute lower respiratory infections: 1,337 cases of Acute
Lower Respiratory Infections were reported in week 44.
Bloody diarrhea (Dysentery): 151 cases of bloody diarrhea
(Dysentery) were reported in week 44. Reported cases in this week are
low because the three MDM supported clinics in Bong County did not
report in week 44 (Figure 3). Specimens collected did not show any
growth of SD1 so far. WHO has sent a team to Bong County to assess
the situation.
Yellow Fever (Acute Jaundice Syndrome): No AJS was
reported in week 44. Health workers should always be
reminded to report AJS/YF cases as soon as possible to
Surveillance Officers or to their Medical Coordinators for
further investigation.
Malaria: Malaria cases reported in week 44 were 3,568.
Out of 1280 patients who took RDT, only 280 cases
became confirmed malaria cases thus making the
confirmation rate 22% (Figure 4.)
Meningitis: No incidence of meningitis was reported in Week 44.
OBSERVATIONS/PROBLEMS
Health facilities and supporting partners are urged to submit
weekly reports timely. Health workers should report YF, AFP
cases immediately to MOHSW or WHO for further investigations
and specimen collections. Partners should also report Maternal &
Neonatal Tetanus and measles cases to MOHSW
EPI/Epidemiology Divisions or WHO/EPI for appropriate
investigations.
