Purpose
The National Certificate in Retail (Loss Prevention) (Level 2) [Ref: xxxx] is an entry level
qualification for people who are working or intending to work in loss prevention within the
retail industry. This qualification is designed for completion in the workplace.
People awarded this qualification are able to provide practical skills in loss prevention in
the retail sector. They are able to demonstrate skills and knowledge specific to loss
prevention, in particular, theft and fraud, process loss, policies and procedures on loss
prevention, recognition of suspicious behaviour by customers and the use of security
systems to prevent losses.
The elective section facilitates the recognition of skills and knowledge relevant to loss
prevention including; legislative requirements in retail, product knowledge of stock, care of
stock, stock management procedures and recording losses.
This qualification may lead to the National Certificate in Retail (Loss Prevention) (Level 3)
[Ref: new] and may also lead to the National Certificate in Retail (Level 4) [Ref: 0995].

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NQF Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand
Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at
http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
