Dear Parents,
Jump Rope For Heart
I know there have been a lot of twirling ropes around the school as many
of you have been training up for this Friday when we hold a Jump Rope
For Heart fundraiser for the Heart Foundation.
What a great way to get a little fitter and learn some new skills as you
skip with your friends. Don’t forget to wear something RED this Friday
and bring the money you have raised to school… I must look for a red
tie.
Do You Have Your Dancing Shoes Ready?
On Friday 17th June we will be conducting the annual DISCO PARTY.
Information is further on in the Valley Views, but we hope you have
bought your ticket already and are getting ready to enjoy the night
with your friends. This is always a great night for our Kilberry students
and the DJ has led the event for a few years now
so is getting to know the school and always gets
everyone up and dancing. If you are able to assist the organisers on
the night, simply leave your name at the office and come along on the
night to help. Please ensure you follow the instructions at the end of
the night for dismissal of the students.
We do this from a variety of doors around the Hall so I thank you in
advance for your patience on the night so we can ensure every child
leaves safely with their family.
Year Prep to Year 2 – 4.30 to 5.30pm
Year 3 to Year 6 – 6.00 – 7.00pm.
Pre purchase tickets by Wednesday 15th June. Tickets sent home on Friday 17th June.
A Day Made Better
Each year there is the opportunity to nominate a staff member who you feel makes the day
better through their actions and care. These nominations were opened last year and we
have recently learnt that four of our staff were nominated and I had the pleasure of
presenting them with their certificates at staff meetings over the last two weeks.
I congratulate Mrs Roslyn Carabott, Mrs Sally Newport, Ms Cathy Smith and
Mrs Mandy Brehaut for their nominations.
Congratulations to these staff members and on your well deserved nominations.
40 Years of Service to Victorian Students
Recently our own Mr Pitts received a special commendation for giving 40 years of service to education in
Victoria. This is a wonderful milestone and we congratulate you!
Mr Pitts’ special talents with ICT and spreadsheets has led to amazing data collections among other things that
are available to our staff to assist our students’ learning.
Congratulations Mr Pitts on a wonderful achievement.
Queens Birthday Holiday
I am sure I do not need to remind you, (but I will anyway) Monday 13th June is a public holiday for the Queens
Birthday and school will be closed. Here’s hoping for a little sunshine.
Footy News
Another grinding win over the Demons on the weekend. You could not say the Hawks football is
very pretty at the moment, but it’s effective and they get over the line when it counts. Slowly
creeping higher on the ladder also as the wins keep tallying up.
A Friday night game this weekend at Etihad against the Bombers would hopefully see another win
to the Hawks and continue the move upwards. Go Hawkers!
Have a great long weekend and keep smiling!

Something new at
BREAKFAST CLUB!
We recently received a donation of milo and would love
for the students at Kilberry Valley Primary School to
benefit at breakfast club!
As we approach some cold mornings, we are offering a
warm milo to students for 10c (or they may receive
a free milo if they don’t have toast or cereal)
Why Science?
WHY?
Science will play an important role in our future. Science will help our students to
be interested in and make sense of the world around them. It will develop their
skills to make informed decisions and ask questions about the environment and
their own health and well-being. By being engaged and enthusiastic at a young
age it may lead to future careers.
WHAT?
Last year Kilberry Valley Primary School applied for a government grant to be
part of the Primary Maths and Science Specialist Initiative which will run over two
years. This initiative focuses on building teacher knowledge of science and maths to
lead to improved learning outcomes for our students. We were very fortunate to be
granted a position for two of our teachers to participate. They will share the
knowledge they are developing and support the teachers in their teaching of Maths
and Science.
HOW?
At Kilberry Valley Primary school students will learn science through an inquiring
and an investigative approach. Science will be taught using the 5E science model engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate. The Primary Connections resource
will scaffold the learning of science for staff. Students will be engaged in hands on
activities and develop the skills to predict and ask questions to develop their
understandings on concepts and phenomena.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN TERM 2?
This term Preps, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 have been immersed in learning Science
and it has been wonderful to see all the learning that is occurring.
Preps - Earth and Space Science: Developing understandings about the concepts
about observable changes that occur in the sky and landscape and the daily and seasonal changes that affect everyday life.
Year 1 - Biological Science: How living things have a variety of external features
and live in different places where their basic needs, including food, water and shelter, are met. Students have been exploring their understandings with hands on
experiences with worms, snails and ants.
Year 2 - Physical Science: How a push or a pull affects how an object moves or
changes shape. They have been exploring objects that move on the ground, float and
sink in water and move in the air.
Year 3 - Earth and Space Science: The way the Earth’s rotation on its axis causes
regular changes, including night and day. They were able to go to Science Works at
the beginning of the term to engage them in the concept.

CHANGE OF CLOTHING
FOR STUDENTS
We would like to remind parents to
provide a change of clothing in children’s school
bags—preferably some clean underwear,
track suit pants, shorts or a dress.
This is handy for ALL children in
ALL grade levels .
It makes them feel less stressed if they
require a change of clothing owing to an
accident or a blood nose. We ask for your
co-operation with this matter as our Sick Bay
is unable to cope with the large volume of
people requiring changes of clothing.
THANK YOU
